Bad coasters that have a glimmer of hope
MisterP replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love Mean Streak's layout. It has tons of potential to be great again. It just needs love. A LOT of it... -

I remember going on Maelstrom in 1989 and remembering it as awesome. Then when I rode it again in 2006, I was wondering just what I thought was so awesome. I enjoyed the Mexico boat ride better because they let you bring your Margaritas on board... -

I'll only include coasters I have ridden: El Toro S:ROS (SFNE) ((haven't been on the Bizarro version)) Millennium Force Revenge of the Mummy (USF) Incredible Hulk -

I love reading that concert list. The two I remember from my early days are the Monkees (really just Davy & Mickey) from '76 and The Guess Who in 1980. -

I have to say that I am shocked that the Koch family plans on adding an actual steel coaster, as opposed to yet another wooden coaster or a 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000-foot water slide... -
I count long walks down the stairs as well as the odd 10 minute jog on the treadmill. Thus, my "coaster" count is 12,435. I hold the world record for coaster riding. Top that..

Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
MisterP replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's another thing that pisses me off about this announcement...and almost every announcement other than Outlaw Run the last 6 or 7 years. Look, I'm not asking the park to put in a new Outlaw Run every year. Far from it. But every year I drive 4 hours to SDC, and then into Branson, passing old CC, and the terribly wasteful opportunity that is Ozark Wildcat just sitting there doing nothing. I was lucky enough to ride it many times the first year it was open, as well as most of the other rides in the Celebration City collection. But to just let OzCat rot and do nothing with it, and to watch SDC add pedestrian stuff like the Barn Swing and everything in the Grand Exposition while the OzCat sits and rots kind of upsets me. I love SDC. Its my home away from my home park. I've been there more times in the last 10 years than Six Flags St Louis, which is about 30 minutes away from where I live (as opposed to 4 hours away). I still absolutely adore SDC. But after leaving OzCat to rot for 5 years, I have to question WTF is happening with the company. And when the big announcement is kiddie rides and an 8-story drop tower, I have to call BS. This announcement is a big bag of sucky kiddie suckness. No one could possibly convince me otherwise... -

It certainly seems like a nice addition overall, but am I the only person who is pretty disappointed that there is almost nothing about this "huge announcement" that appeals to an adult like me? I mean, other than an 8-story drop tower ? Just being honest, and its not all bad, since it will be another new reason to bring my 7 year-old son down to SDC next year. But I was greedy and hoping for something that will bring ME back down there next year. Even without it being a new coaster, when I read that it was a whole new area, I was hoping that there would at least be some kind of dark ride or other heavily-themed attraction contained therein. But, alas, its just another Grand Exposition-type of area (an area that greatly pales in comparison to the rest of the park...and an area that visited for about 5 minutes total of my 2-day trip this past July). It makes sense from a marketing standpoint, but its hardly exciting to a regular park visitor like me... -

I rode WT last month, and couldn't come close to buckling the test seat (it was a shoulders thing), but gave it a shot anyway because there was no line at all, and I fit pretty comfortably once I got on the ride... -
Thank you for your response. And no thank you to anyone else who thinks that a father and working stiff (teacher) without a ton of extraneous income is gonna buy a game with flat rides and paths and no coasters. Let me know when the game isn't partially complete, and I will purchase it. Until then, I will save my money and play computer games that are actually on sale once they are finished. Crazy concept, I realize. Maybe 16 year old coaster dorks with cash from their job at Wendy's have money to throw away on a game that isn't even completed, but this coaster dork who has kids and a mortgage cannot....

I'm an old guy and huige movie geek who doesn't really have much of a taste for the newer CGI-fueled, explosions and car crash kind of big budget summer popcorn flicks. But last night I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy in 3-D IMAX and it was freaking AMAZING! I laughed my butt off! It looked amazing! The 3-D was fantastic! Man, what an awesome movie...

I really hate when people walk up to the entrance to a queue line and stop right there to talk to someone or wait for the rest of their party while I am trying to enter the queue. Crap or get off the pot, people. Don't enter the queue until you and your group all decide to ride. Until then, get out of the way and the rest of us get in line...

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

Earlier this week, a woman sitting behind me on Millennium Force said to her husband at the end of the ride, "Its still a great ride, but its really gotten rough". "Rough"? -

Quoted for truth from a fresh perspective. You nailed it on the head, it is a beautiful sight to behold. Have you seen pictures of it from the lake? My goodness it's coaster porn. But to actually ride... Nobody is exaggerating. Nobody. I have ridden both Mean Streak and Timberwolf at WOF in the last two weeks, and Timberwolf makes Mean Streak feel like an Intamin. Sure MS is rough (although my ride in the front row wasn't really too bad), but Timberwolf is a chiropractor's wet dream. I've ridden it many times over the years since it opened, but it is now seriously the worst pile of crap I've ever ridden and Mean Streak wasn't even close IMO... -
Simply posting "this looks awesome" is totally different than posting a six section review of a ride based on a video that you haven't ridden yet. If you had simply wrote "The video isn't making me as excited for the ride as I thought, but I'll reserve judgement until I ride" or something, my reaction would have been a lot different. But your lengthy post came across incredibly negative for a ride you've never experienced. You basically wrote a bad review for something you've never done. That's why you got the reaction out of me that you did. --Robb That's fair. I was just expecting more dark ride elements. But if you say its a great ride, that's enough for me. I can't wait to get back there in 2015 to experience it myself...

I wasn't trying to troll or say that its a terrible ride. In fact, I said it looked like a nice family ride. And its good to hear you felt so highly about it. But if I posted "this looks awesome", would you have commented that my opinion was useless because I hadn't ridden it yet? Again, I admitted it was just an opinion from a video, which is all I have at this point. I felt there would be more dark ride elements to it, but if it works as an overall ride experience, I'm glad. Its not like I wanted to feel ambivalent after watching the video. I wanted it to look awesome, but it just looked OK. With many of the videos you guys post of new rides, I can tell how awesome they look just from watching them, and I often think "I gotta ride that!".. This one, not so much. So I felt like commenting on that fact. Just one man's opinion whilst sitting at his computer at 2am on a Friday night.

Is it just me, or does the ride seem a bit short? Basically a couple of tame (granted, its to be expected) coaster sections sandwiched around a very short mine section that pretty much existed in the original ride, with a single exterior scene at the end. Its like they combined Barnstormer & the original Scary Adventures, but with like 1/4th the scenes. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a cool enough ride. But outside of the fact that it has coaster sections, what is better than the original ride?. I can't say I expected more from a coaster sense, but from the theming elements/dark ride sense, I did. It does look like a nice starter coaster for the kiddies, and I can't wait until my son gets to ride it. But as an adult Disney geek, it looks kind of 'meh'. There doesn't seem to be any sort of story for a Fantasyland ride. Its layout seems to be: 1. mine train, 2. dwarfs in a mine, 3. more mine train, 4. dancing dwarfs. Huh? That's it? Unless there's some element of the ride I'm missing by watching the video, take away the kiddie coaster element, and I'd say I prefer the original SW'sSA . At least it had a story....and most of all, it had some "menace" to it, which set it apart from the other FL rides...

I don't get the desire for new standups. I've been on a few, and ......yeah....been there, done that. They're never that great, and there is almost always some discomfort involved. They by definition have pretty much no airtime. They're all laterals, positive Gs, and blue balls. Just keep making good sitters or flyers. If I want to stand up, I'll ride the Round-up...

There is no such thing as "too long" at an amusement park if you're still having fun and you still have that amusement park "buzz". When I'm on vacation somewhere and I'm on a lifthill or something, I always think to myself "enjoy this now, because in a few weeks you will be back at work wishing like hell that you were right back here on this ride". Way more often than not, I leave vacation parks (ie, parks I don't frequent) wishing I had more time to spend there...
