  1. Orlando=owned by Universal North Carolina=owned by Palace Entertainment Hawaii, Phoenix, Australia=owned by Village Roadshow The company was originally founded by the same guy who founded Sea World, and I believe Elissa is correct in saying that Orlando, NC, Dallas, and Vegas were at one time all under the same ownership of that company. I'm assuming that this original company (which no longer owns any water parks and is probably just a holding company for any remaining assets) just licenses the name out to whomever wants it.
  2. I'm not going to lie, I rather enjoyed watching the Heat choke after Wade taunted the Mavs bench when he hit that 3-pointer towards the end of the game. LeBron trying to be the hero wasting away the shot clock jacking up bad 3-point shot was pretty funny to watch too.
  3. For the last time: this has nothing to do with SFMM vs. CP, SFMM's bad operations, or anything else. The simple FACT of the matter is that it is a sound business decision for the park to be investing in coasters that cost about the same amount as a flat ride. You may not agree with SFMM going back to being the "Xtreme park," but if that is what they want to be their niche in the very crowded so cal market, why wouldn't they keep investing in coasters?
  4. I'm actually very curious to see how hockey does in Winnipeg this time around. They have a newer arena, which will help the bottom line...but since Winnipeg is such a small market, maintaing valuable corporate accounts might be tough. Let alone the fact that the Thrashers still need to be completely rebuilt before having a chance to win...will Winnipeg support a losing team?
  5. Nah...just say something negative about Cedar Fair and he'll have nothing but positive things to say! I'm not really sure how this discussion ended up so far off topic: the fact of the matter is that what they said at WCB is true. Flats would be great, but there is more money to be made investing in similarly priced coasters. I can only speak for myself, but instead of ignoring SFMM like I typically would...two new credits has made me want to give the park a courtesy visit this year. So they sold me. A flat ride certainly wouldn't do that!
  6. ^^I am about as FAR from an SFMM "fanboy" as you can get. I'm just smart enough to realize it makes business sense to do what SFMM is currently doing. That "used" coaster they installed actually fills a niche they desperately needed: another family ride! From my point of view, Green Lantern is essentially a flat ride disguised as a credit, so it's a win-win situation.
  7. It actually makes sense. If I was running park like SFMM (that markets itself on coasters) and someone pitched me on paying $5 million for a giant swing ride vs. a coaster that reportedly costs just slightly more (Insane @ Gronaland is listed at $7 million), I'd take the coaster too. Much more marketing value, and probably not much of a capacity difference either.
  8. ^The Jets were basically in the same situation back then as the Thrashers are now. Wasn't economically viable to support an NHL team in Winnipeg.
  9. ^^Again it comes down to poor scheduling on their part. Bite the bullet and absorb the cost of a rehab BEFORE the ride hits the mandatory amount of cycles or time.
  10. That's what Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, South Point, Aliante Station, The Orleans, and all the other locals casinos are for...
  11. I vote for no lockout. Think of all the upset arena employees around the country who will lose the majority of their work!
  12. Best headline (courtesy of withleather): Canucks win with knuckle puck.
  13. ^Nothing on the strip has a "locals market." It's a great idea in a horrible location. Not ideal for foot traffic, right next to the airport...the Harrahs location in the middle of the strip is a MUCH better location.
  14. Leave it to the Sharks to lose in bizarre fashion...
  15. ^The funny thing is, all the exterior shots had it in that location...but every single time they showed a view from a suite or an office, it was always a view from the middle of the strip.
  16. There's universal standards (ASTM) that have to be met. It more or less boils down to the fact people in America are dumb and need more supervision.
  17. Left his feet and got him in the head. Definitely should have been a major based on the strict definition of "Rule 48" in the NHL. But we all know how fair the NHL is... Personally, I think he was trying to avoid contact by jumping around the contact...but it still should have been interference.
  18. ^The current business model of Vegas is to copy what is successful and milk it for all it is worth.
  19. Fun fact: this scene from Vegas Vacation was filmed at the casino (Klondike) that used to be there. On a serious note...there's no way this is going to actually get built. Dude will be bankrupt in no time. Probably due to "costs associated with FAA approval" or some BS like that.
  20. Lots of booze. Seriously though. It's definitely one of those things that should come with a "don't try this at home" disclaimer. They work their asses off to plan the best trips.
  21. Not going to lie...as a Kings fan who watched their season end due to their inability to convert on a 5-3, I loved watching the Sharks lose in that fashion.
  22. Theoretically a lot of this can be done behind the scenes/after park hours, but it's really no small undertaking. They have to build a network/servers to send 4k video, install all the projectors and related infrastructure (I'm guessing it will require some changes to the HVAC system to properly cool the new projectors/servers), then sync it all up with the ride. My guess would be a month of downtime to test it all out...but that is just a guess.
  23. ^Castle Park is pretty weak now. The themeing hasn't changed at all since you were a kid (they've just repainted it), and the city doesn't do a very good job maintaining the carpets on the course. My favorite is actually the Fantasia Gardens pro course. I love the challenge. As a side note: does anyone remember when ESPN2 actually showed the Putt-Putt world championships?
  24. ^Have you been to Boomers? It's about as ghetto as family fun centers get. If it's really going to be demolished, I would suspect it is because creditors want the ride for scrap money.
