  1. Bringing this thread back from the dead... Oh, and I am assuming THIS website is related to the ride. Introducing EVAC: the newest autobot/your ride vehicle.
  2. They will also be announcing their 2nd house tomorrow!
  3. The earthquake is just a convenient "final nail in the coffin." The earthquake probably did have a negative affect on attendance for the show (as it is logical to expect people to have far less discretionary income if they were affected by the earthquake), but as Robb pointed out...it's pretty clear the was struggling prior to the earthquake as well.
  4. It's also made of I-beams, which would probably have trouble supporting a drop tower...
  5. For those of you saying that it is just a copy of Disney Studios in Florida, remember one thing: both parks are themed to the same time period! The Pan Pacific Auditorium's entrance is pretty much the perfect design to steal for theme park turnstiles. Imagineers could have chosen another historic building to emulate, but finding a historic building design in Los Angeles that could stay true to its original design and not look retarded when stretched across a wider area was probably pretty difficult for them.
  6. There are three things you can be sure will always pop up in the SFMM thread over and over again (no matter how many times we have discussed them): 1. complaints about those things that smartcarte currently operates for the park. 2. complaints about the food quality. 3. complaints about upcharge Q-bots/fastpass/VIP/etc. Please just stop.
  7. John (and his entire team) are very passionate about their work. John was the driving force behind getting HHN back in the first place, so it's really no surprise to see him on twitter promoting his baby. You will see John (along with all the other creative team members) in the park every night interacting with the guests, supervisors, and talent really taking time to get their feedback and getting to know them. It's very cool, and IMO a big part of what makes HHN in Hollywood so good.
  8. The original Rob Zombie maze was "The Thrilling Chilling World of Rob Zombie" in 1999 and was based on songs from Hellybilly Deluxe. I vaguely remember there being "living dead girls", a "Channel X" room, and "spookshow baby" hot chicks. The following year he did a house of 1000 corpses maze, but Universal ended up not releasing the movie (which pissed him off quite a bit). Fun fact: Rob would come to his mazes almost every night and scare guests. He was very hands on with those two mazes.
  9. How many times have we already had this discussion on food? Seriously. For one thing, Cedar Fair parks gouge you even worse for the same off the shelf items you can buy from any food wholesaler. For another thing, comparing Six Flags to Disney and Universal is completely unfair, as they have completely different demographics to cater to, charge a lot more for admission, and serve a lot more guests. In other words: Disney and Universal can afford to have modern kitchens staffed by actual chefs. As for the food at SFMM? I've never had an issue with it. It's not great, but it is edible and get the job done when I'm hungry. Which is all the majority of SFMM's guests care for (why do you think they haven't bothered to reopen the restaurant at the top of the hill? It's just not worth it.) Mooseburger is actually the one place I won't eat at, since at one point it was shut down by LA County health inspectors for roaches.
  10. I think it comes down to having enough of a case to prove that the park and ride operators were criminally negligent vs just plain negligent (which is the civil issue). For it to be a criminal act, they would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the ride operators knew with 100% certainty that allowing this guy to ride would have killed him, whereas civil negligence is simply proving "hey dumb ass, you didn't use common sense and look what happened!" And with that explanation, I can now say that paying attention in the two business law classes I was required to take have no payed off!
  11. Suicide might not be the most accurate way to describe it, but given the fact the guy had cheated death once before, it's not out of the realm of possibility to think that his mindset could have been "I know I'm not supposed to ride this, but damnit, I'm lucky to be alive and want to ride this roller coaster!...lets see if I can talk the ride ops into it."
  12. After watching the interview w/ the alternate juror, it is pretty obvious the prosecution screwed up big time in wanting this to be a capital crime instead of going for a lesser charge of manslaughter. The dude basically said they ignored the judges instructions about certain evidence (IIRC, he said something like "despite the objections, we heard it and couldn't get it out of our minds") and thought they were the ones deciding whether or not she lived or died, so they were extra careful with what constitutes "reasonable doubt."
  13. Coincidentally, this just made the news: Octomom brought all her kids on a flight in business class. Naturally, that didn't end well. http://www.tmz.com/2011/07/09/octomom-nadya-suleman-kristen-johnston-third-rock-from-the-sun-airplane-argument-flight-delayed-jfk-lax/#comments-anchor
  14. ^^Just to be fair, while you are taking others to task for their assumptions, you appear to be assuming that he is totally at fault just because a warning sign saying he shouldn't have gone on the ride. We'll find out soon enough what happened. Being an "armchair QB" is pretty pointless.
  15. ^^Good deal...if he can stay healthy. A solid #2 winger is what the Kings desperately needed.
  16. You always take great photos of these fairs! After doing the TPR Oktoberfest trip, I definitely need to go back to Europe to visit more of the big fairs. I'm a flat ride dork and really wish we had anything even close to comparable in the U.S.
  17. NKOTBSB. *sighs*
  18. I don't think that is true. The things I remember most about KBF that are gone now are mostly the "little things" like the mural that used to be in the tunnel, how creepy the church+reflection lake were during haunt, the "original" berry stand/vines, and even the dolphin show! Let alone the bigger attractions I loved like Soap Box Racers, Parachute drop, and the Haunt shack. But in the present state, it is what it is. There's no turning back at this point, so they might as well keep doing what they are doing: building thrill rides and restoring what they can inside the park to maintain some of that old charm.
  19. Rihanna...she sounded really good on some songs, and had a really raspy voice on others. But unlike most pop stars, she was actually singing.
  20. ^Those are not the same mice. The one at Del Mar is an old school (read: good) Reverchon mouse owned by SJ Entertainment. I believe it does all the Texas fairs after Del Mar. The same company also owns this Windstorm (the former Fun Forest Windstorm), which is new to Del Mar. RCS has a Zamperla (read: neutered Reverchon) mouse. Not sure why RCS traded its Gerstauler for that one, but it definitely not the same one that plays Del Mar.
  21. ^^^^^That looks like a plan for redeveloping Beach Blvd. around KBF to me.
  22. Someone with enough free time on their hand could probably find some information on the coaster by searching through the Buena Park City Council meeting minutes... http://www.buenapark.com/Index.aspx?page=334
  23. Mana. 3 nights in a row. And I only understood one song: the drum solo.
  24. He is correct. State law mandates that all rides be operated in accordance with their SOP. As it currently stands, Revolution's SOP includes OTSR's. To have that changed, the manufacturer would have to approve the modification/update all the technical documents, go through the testing process, have the state inspect it, etc. It definitely would not be easy, but *IS* still possible.
