I'm going for their Gay Days this weekend. Heard on OutQ radio that this event is in the top ten gay and lesbian "End of Summer" events. Q-bots are sold out online, so we will have to get to the park early to get ours. TPR has spoiled me to the point that there is NO WAY I will be able to handle waiting in lines on a crowded Saturday. Looking forward to the event though. I wonder....Chick Fil A was the food choice a couple of months ago... perhaps that might have changed

^^ Like a Monet...looks amazing from a distance, but up close it's just a big old mess D. -
^ Yeah - you ar right. I was thinking of the area on the other side of the Carousel from the cars...but that is kind of a steep grade (hence the reason there's nothing really there ). For the people saying there isn't a lot of room to expand at SFoG, I think you'd be suprised at the locations they could build a new ride. The last times I've visited, Splashwater Falls hasn't been running. Perhaps that could be removed for the new attraction?? Just a thought. David

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
jynx242 replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Again - I'll agree...boomerangs basically suck. The new trains on Carolina Cobra made for a MUCH better ride, but they are still boomerangs. I am still of the opinion that a larger coaster is not currently in their budget. On a park - by - park basis, with each having its own separate budget for new rides, I feel this is a good move for the park. It brings in another ride ro the park to market as new. It brings in this new ride without spending a TON of money that can then be used to budget for the larger B&M or Intamin that we are all hoping for for them in future years. They are due for a big coaster and this could very well be a step in that direction for them. I liked SFStL when I visited. The park was clean, the people were nice and I had a great time there. EK or whatever it is called now was a really fun ride and I LOVED Mr. Freeze. I'll agree - they could use more and newer coasters to improve their lineup and I'd love to see it happen. I think, if they are indeed getting the boomerang from SFoT, that it is part of a longer term plan to invest capital in the park. Remember - I do not now, nor have I ever run a theme park. This is just my opinion. -
I lucked out in Atlanta this year with decent temperatures throughout much of the day (and at SFOG the day before). Plus, even during the hottest parts it didn't seem humid at all. DC in late July, on the other hand...now that was Hell with a capital H. (Well, I was at SFA, after all...)

Or South Georgia. People in HELL are making fun of us...(between afternoon monsoons that is )

If I was Hart - I wouldn't touch the deal with a 10 foot pole at this point. Who, in their right mind, would want to work with this fair board. They are doing an RFP NOW? After no fewer than THREE OFFERS to re-open the park. I'm sorry - there is something incompetent or shady goin on there. As much as I'd like to see the park re-open...under these idiots, nothing good would come of it.

^ Agreed!!! As far as the alleged addition of a used boomerang to SFStL - here's my take. Even though we truly don't like them as enthusiasts, boomerangs do get fairly long lines and to the uninitiated - they are impressive looking. Hopefully it will at least get the new trains (rode Carowind's last weekend and actually enjoyed it.) It will be a "new" coaster for the market there and with low maintenance costs and pretty good reliability - it will be beneficial to the park. I'm sure there are people who are very qualified to do this research. Saying that - I'm sure a B&M Hyper coaster or a giga or a strata or something really big would be an enormous draw for the park; but it's budget might not be able to support such an addition at this time. Heck - you won't find too many people on TPR that would ever be excited for a boomerang - we know better . But take a look at the GP of Facebook thread here... the general public will be thrilled to have a roller coaster that does loop-de-loops forwards and backwards. Hopefully - not having a HUGE capital expendature for this this year - yet adding to the number of rides in the park - will enable them to build the awesomeness that we want in 2014 or 15. Just my humble opinion - which means exactly SQUAT. David -
An AMAZING place for a sky-screamer would be on one of the lesser used portions of Carousel Hill. Another location could be in the area around GASM - kind of near that teeny little kids water play area. I was under the impression that another 1/3rd of the Cyclone would be "toppered" this off-season. I have no idea where I got this impression from - but thought I would share. I must have heard it somewhere. David

Wild Adventures Discussion Thread
jynx242 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've always thought of Wild Adventures as "the little park that could." I have definitely seen some HUGE improvements under the Herschend ownership! I would really like to see a new addition to the "rides" side of the park soon. The water park looks better and better each year, but I'm not a huge fan of waterparks in general. It would be nice to see a compact coaster like a Eurofighter or even a Zac-Spin - something thrilling, but fitting for a park of this size. And I'll agree - the Sloth picture made the report!! Sloths are AWESOME!! D. -

Thanks so much for the pictures. I, too, grew up at SFoG and remember Tales of the Okeefanokee along with the Mindbender opening! My first job was there in 1986 and 1987 (still the best job I ever had ) David -

^ WORD! -
I think you are on the right track. Theme parks are A: larger than life and B: offer thrills and excitement and C: an escape from reality. Generalizing here - but we (the gay community) often have more disposable income and don't have kids of our own. I know - I know - remember, I'm generalizing here. We can go to an amusement park/theme park and basically do the things we couldn't do when we were kids like not worry about paying for fast passes/food/drinks/etc. I know for myself - after spending so much of my life NOT being able to be myself and do things that I wanted, the theme park experience is a luxury. I also think there might be a correlation with adrenalin and the gay community. David

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jynx242 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For all the people bemoaning the less than enthusiastic response regarding another B&M...I don't think anyone has said it will be a "bad" ride. The general consensus is that it will be GREAT for the park and that park guests will eat it up. To me it looks like it will be a very fun and re-ridable ride. People who are not big B&M fans any longer miss the days of Kumba and Batman: The Ride. When B&M's packed a heck of a punch. Newer models just aren't as forceful as their older models were. I have yet to ride a B&M that I did not enjoy, but the wing coasters - by their very design - cannot be a return to the OMG coasters that they used to build. All that being said - this concept and the interaction with the front gate is an AWESOME concept by the park. It will truly become a signature for the park...which is a good thing . I am really looking forward to getting back to the Point - it has been entirely too long. David
