Disney has released a new piece of concept art for Splitsville opening at Downtown Disney West Side later this year. Starting this fall, Splitsville, located in Downtown Disney West Side, will reinvent bowling for America with 50, 000 square feet of fun and 30 lanes on two floors. Guests will come for the bowling but stay for the food. Between strikes and spares, guests can feast on menu items including hand-tossed pizza, fresh-rolled sushi and hand-cut filet sliders served right at the lane. Beyond a great hangout for friends and families, the all-new day-and-nightime venue also will be available for birthday parties and corporate events. (©Disney)

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
jedimaster1227 replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think you understand what "Return on Investment" means, at least for a business. Rides like this aren't designed to cater to enthusiasts and fans with photoshop and Rollercoaster Tycoon. They are designed to cater to the general public, who more often than not see "New, bigger, faster, crazier" in the marketing and show up, or just show up for the park and decide to ride the attraction. I can tell you that no general guest is going to go to Guest Relations after riding Leviathan and say "Give me my money back because that elevated finale was a let down." Let's be real here. 1. I can assure you people would still ride it. 2. 50% less of a new coaster is still 100% more of a new coaster than a park would have had they not built the coaster at all. So while this would certainly make these rides less attractive in the eyes of the enthusiast, the general public still wouldn't care to the level you give them credit for. This argument is proof positive why rides should never be built for the enthusiast to begin with. A park builds the tallest B&M to date and people moan about the brake run. It may not be the most insane ride ever, but guess what? It is still a NEW ride. Do I think it looks like the greatest coaster ever? No, but the brake run is certainly not the thing that stands out as the fatal flaw of the ride. Does my opinion (or yours) matter when it comes to the park's annual ticket sales and attendance? That's a solid no. If this were the last new coaster to be built in the world, you'd still have people finding reason to complain about it not meeting their expectations. Like I said before, 50% of something new is still 100% more of something new than the 0% of anything new you'd have if the park decided to never build a new coaster again. Can we just accept the coaster for what it is and move on? I'm sure in another five years there'll be another huge investment for you to pick apart for its disappointing finale. -

Last Monday I had the opportunity to attend a special D23 event for a very small group of people (65 to be exact) celebrating the re-opening of the Sunshine Tree Terrace at the Magic Kingdom. Mind you, we did not yet know officially about (though most of us were prepared for) the unveiling of the return of the Orange Bird, but we were happy to attend. Disney Archivist Steven Vagnini led the morning's ceremonies and hyped up the crowd while we waited to enter Adventureland. From there we were told to keep our eyes and ears open for a few surprises... Along the way, a few members of the group caught a look at these beauties! I'm glad I bought mine when I did, because the inventory was sold out by the next day. A stage was set up in front of the recently-unveiled Sunshine Tree Terrace. The torches are finally back at the Sunshine Tree Terrace and they actually have fire! Jason Grandt of Walt Disney Imagineering was the main pusher behind the return of the Orange Bird. Vintage sippy cups! Believe it or not, this is the original Orange Bird figurine that swung from a branch inside of the Sunshine Tree Terrace back in 1971. The figure was found in the Walt Disney Archives and after being fully restored, is now featured here once again. If you've ever had the chance to hear Jason talk about it (or follow him on Twitter), you'll know Jason is passionate about the Orange Bird (along with lots of other Disney history). Time for some Orange Bird trivia! I won a vintage Orange Bird whistle for answering the question, "Why is the idea of an Orange Bird whistle ironic?" It is ironic because the Orange Bird can't speak--all the thoughts he ever spoke appear in orange smoke, and that's what makes the Orange Bird unique. Disney Artist Casey Jones was on hand to help show off the new Orange Bird poster print as well as other new Orange Bird merchandise. Monty from merchandising had plenty to say about the new items as well. Several new Orange Bird pins are on the way... As well as a new Orange Bird ear hat! After the presentation, we were given samples of the newly revived Citrus Swirl that can now be purchased at the Sunshine Tree Terrace. It was a little early for ice cream (and as you can tell I was a little tired) but the Citrus Swirl was pretty awesome. It's kind of like a mix between vanilla ice cream and pure frozen citrus--they don't taste amazing on their own, but mixed together they are pretty great. Definitely a lighter-tasting alternative to the Dole Whip (which I love). Since it was the morning, D23 kept in theme by providing us with some fresh Florida oranges. After many years the Orange Bird is back home. Just another awesome layer of detail for guests to see! The Orange Bird sippy cups are found everywhere in the Sunshine Tree Terrace. Following in recent WDI tradition, there's a ton of little tributes in this label. Loranges (Horizons) is my favorite, but I'll let you pick out the rest. Very cool! Back to the merchandise! I love that logo on the back! A Sunshine Tree Terrace exclusive menu item! Fire! Hey, I'm a Disney dork and I know it. At least I can enjoy it. The Sunshine Tree Terrace even has a poster under the entryways of the Train Station.
