  1. It has been announced that Category 10 will open a new location, the third in the restaurant brand built around country singer Luke Combs, in CityWalk at Universal Orlando Resort. The new venue is expected to open in late 2027. https://www.category10.com/2026/02/17/orlando/ Today, Opry Entertainment Group and Grand Ole Opry member Luke Combs announced plans to bring Category 10 to CityWalk at Universal Orlando Resort. “I have a line in my song ‘1, 2 Many,’ ‘there’s no stopping me once I get goin’. Well, I guess you can say the same about Cat 10 now,” said Luke Combs. “I know Orlando is a worldwide destination spot, so I’m super pumped and humbled that we’re getting to open a location there. My wife is from Florida, so we’re both super excited about this. I am glad to be bringing our brand of first-class service and awesome tunes to the Sunshine State.” The Orlando venue, targeted to open in late 2027, is the third location for the Category 10 brand, joining the flagship Category 10 in Nashville, Tennessee (opened in 2024) and a recently announced Las Vegas location (debuting fall 2026). Opry Entertainment Group also owns and operates Blake Shelton’s Ole Red, a restaurant, bar and live music venue located in Orlando. “Country music is reaching more people nationally and internationally than ever before, driven in large part by superstars like Luke Combs,” said Colin Reed, Executive Chairman of OEG parent company Ryman Hospitality Properties. “With Orlando welcoming millions of visitors from around the globe each year, expanding the Category 10 footprint into this world-class entertainment destination allows us to introduce visitors to an authentic country music experience inspired by Luke’s Carolina roots.” The Category 10 brand pays tribute to Combs’ 8x platinum debut No. 1 hit, “Hurricane.” The approximately 33,000 square-foot, three-story Orlando location will include experiential areas influenced by Combs’ music and passions. In celebration of the new music, Combs will kick off his massive “My Kinda Saturday Night Tour” this spring, which consists of stadium shows across North America and Europe, including London’s Wembley Stadium (three nights, the first country artist to sell out multiple shows), Ireland’s Slane Castle (two nights), Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, Green Bay’s Lambeau Field (two nights), Edinburgh’s Scottish Gas Murrayfield (two nights) and Sweden’s Ullevi among many others. Additionally, Combs recently made history as the first country artist to headline both Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, became the first country artist with two songs earning a billion streams on Spotify, the first with four singles certified RIAA Diamond and recently extended his record for the most consecutive #1 singles at country radio as he earned his 20th #1 with “Back in the Saddle.” These accomplishments follow Combs’ last album, Fathers & Sons, which reflects on his experiences as a dad and the unique bond between parents and their children, and led NPR Music to praise, “he’s going beyond the country realm now and really has become a pop star, a global popstar.” A Grand Ole Opry member and 11x CMA, 4x ACM, 6x Billboard Music Award-winner, Combs recently collaborated with artists such as Post Malone (“Guy For That” + “Missin’ You Like This”), Bailey Zimmerman (“Backup Plan,” the 2025 SEC Network anthem), Jon Bellion (“WHY”) and Alex Warren (“Ordinary (Live at Lollapalooza)”), and partnered with Opry Entertainment Group to open Category 10—an entertainment complex in downtown Nashville, with a second location opening in Las Vegas this year. Combs also performed an unforgettable duet of “Fast Car” with Tracy Chapman at the 66th Grammy Awards and joined forces with Eric Church, Billy Strings and James Taylor to headline “Concert for Carolina,” a special benefit show that raised over $24.5 million for Hurricane Helene relief efforts.
  2. Silver Dollar City has announced that Thunderation will retire at the end of the 2026 season, after operating for 33 years. After 33 years of runaway thrills through the Ozark Mountains, Silver Dollar City’s Thunderation will be retired at the end of the 2026 season, marking the end-of-an-era for one of the longest-running and most celebrated mine train roller coasters in the United States. The final day of operation is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2027. Opened in 1993, the runaway mine train-style coaster has entertained generations of families, becoming a rite of passage for thrill-seekers visiting the 1880s theme park. Among roller coaster enthusiasts, Thunderation is widely regarded as one of the best mine train coasters in the world. Since its debut, the Arrow Dynamics coaster has carried more than 27 million riders across more than 3,000 feet of track carved into the Ozarks terrain. While park officials maintain the coaster has become a City treasure, the Marvel Cave Mining Company has declared it is time for “real” work back beneath the mountain. Officials hint that its return to activity signals significant developments ahead. The Marvel Cave Mining Company is taking back this section of the park for geological surveys, ordering Thunderation to vacate the tracks to make way for resumed mining operations inside Silver Dollar City. The mining company, which initially ceased operations in 1889, insists it is time to return to “good, honest work underground” deep within Marvel Cave and that the rails currently occupied by the coaster must be cleared. “Thunderation has had its run,” said Foreman Jedidiah Campbell. “But this mountain was never meant to be borrowed forever. There are still undiscovered sections of that mine, and I intend to see what it holds. The work underground matters more than any cheer from above.” Rather than protest the decision, Silver Dollar City has declared the 2026 season a yearlong celebration of Thunderation, beginning with an opening-day ceremony on March 13 and culminating in a final sendoff on Jan. 2, 2027. Special ride moments, promotional offers, commemorative merchandise and limited-time offerings will be unveiled throughout the season. "Thunderation's opening kickstarted exciting additions to Silver Dollar City,” says Brad Thomas, president of Silver Dollar City Parks & Resorts. “Likewise, Thunderation's retirement at the end of 2026 will launch new and exciting chapters in Silver Dollar City's future. In this case, the end is really an exciting beginning. Please stay tuned!" Guests can plan their final ride at silverdollarcity.com.
  3. Greenland in Kumamoto, Japan has announced a new hybrid wooden coaster from Great Coasters International will open at the park in 2028! https://www.atpress.ne.jp/news/2729358 [Greenland (Kumamoto)] A hybrid of steel and wood! This hybrid coaster, created by GCI (Great Coasters International, Inc.), which has won numerous coaster awards across the US and Europe (※1), offers a new sensation created by its steel supports and wooden track! Facility name Hybrid Coaster WADATSUMI Classification Roller coaster Place Next to NIO Construction is scheduled to begin June 2026 Scheduled opening March 2028 The Hybrid Coaster WADATSUMI features a course with many ups and downs, just like a raging sea, and its greatest appeal is the "air time" feeling of floating up. It is also an extremely exhilarating attraction where you can experience the sensation of speeding nonstop from the first drop to the end without slowing down. The train employs a hybrid structure that combines steel supports and a wooden track, and while the steel supports reduce shaking, it also allows passengers to experience the ride comfort that only a wooden track can provide. The contrast between the cobalt blue of the supports, reminiscent of the sea, and the southern yellow pine used for the track is artistic. Although there is a height restriction, there is no age restriction, and the speed and course development make it enjoyable for people of all ages. This coaster is the first hybrid coaster in Japan to be built by Great Coasters International, Inc., a roller coaster manufacturer that has won numerous awards in the Golden Ticket Awards, which are sponsored by Amusement Today and recognize outstanding amusement facilities around the world. Please look forward to the further evolution of Greenland, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary this July. 4. Slagharen has announced that it is adding a new Zamperla flat ride known as Sky Sifter in 2026! This attraction will offer guests a choice been a gold, more intense experience with inversions or a silver, family-friendly mode without inversions. https://www.eap-magazin.de/Article/%E2%80%9CSky-Sifter%E2%80%9D%3A-Slagharen-Reveals-Details-of-New-Dual-Experience-Attraction.html The Dutch theme park and holiday resort Slagharen is expanding its Wild West offering with a new adventure. This spring, an attraction named “Sky Sifter” is set to open, combining both a thrill and a family-friendly experience in one. This will be made possible by a ride of the “Discovery Revolution 30” type from Italian manufacturer Zamperla. The 30-metre-high attraction will feature two separate queues, which both integrate seamlessly into the theme of “Gold Rush” and “Red Bandit Adventure” attractions. Guests will then be able to choose between two options: “Gold” or “Silver”. While the Gold route culminates in a more intense ride experience with full inversions (“Full Inversion Mode”), the Silver route offers a more family-friendly alternative in swing mode without inversions. In total, the attraction has a capacity of around 540 persons per hour. “‘Sky Sifter’ reflects our ambition to create experiences that bring together different target groups without compromise,” emphasises Sander de Haas, General Manager of Slagharen. “By giving guests the freedom to choose their own level of adventure, we are expanding our Wild West world in a way that is both innovative and true to our identity. With the concept of a dual experience and the full inversion, ‘Sky Sifter’ represents a major step forward for Slagharen and stands out as a unique attraction in the region.” The name, theme and queue design of the attraction were developed in collaboration with the Dutch Leisure Expert Group. “What truly makes ‘Sky Sifter’ special is that the decision is made before the ride even begins,” explains John Ruisch, Creative Director at the Leisure Expert Group. “Within Slagharen’s familiar Western setting, we were able to implement this concept in both queues. We are very proud of what we have created together with Slagharen and can hardly wait for the first guests to experience this new adventure first-hand.” More about this year’s new attractions in European theme parks will be available in the EAP Park Report, to be published in issue 2/2026 at the beginning of March. ■

  6. The Orlando Business Journal has revealed new details about a $20 million dollar event space being added to Universal’s Epic Universe. https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2026/02/12/universal-epic-universe-new-expansion-event-space.html Universal Orlando Resort is making a major investment at Epic Universe, committing more than $20 million to build a new event space, according to county records newly obtained by Orlando Business Journal. OBJ received the records Feb. 9 from Orange County, which show the new building — located at 1001 Epic Blvd., the address of Epic Universe — spans two stories and is approximately 53,886 square feet. The construction permits filed in January show the value of the work on the venue is $20.6 million, and the project — nicknamed P915 — is for an event space. Site plans included in the records request show the roof of the new building has a distinct “hexagon canopy” design and indicate it may feature a colorful LED component, a common aesthetic seen across the park. Site plans show the roof's hexagon design of this new event venue underway at Epic Universe. The documents show the first floor of the building has roughly 19,000 square feet of event space, which could be transformed into different layouts for guest needs. For example, one of the layouts shows a stage can be located inside the first floor with about 9,600 square feet dedicated to tables, chairs and attendees' space. It also notes total occupancy can range from about 1,200 to 1,400 guests depending on the layout of the event space. Other areas on the first floor include a kitchen, storage closets and a breakroom for employees. The documents do not explicitly state where the new building would be located within the park. For guests visiting Epic Universe, it may be worth staying until closing, as the park provides a whole different atmosphere at night. Epic Universe, which opened in May 2025, features five themed worlds, each with multiple attractions, dining options and shopping venues. Universal Destinations & Experience CEO Mark Woodbury previously told OBJ the park is strategically positioned and planned for continued growth. “If you fly over Epic — or you look at Google Earth — you'll see how we plan the park, and you'll see greenfield space between the existing worlds," he said during a Bank of America conference last fall. "That is strategically positioned to give us flexibility to expand a world or create a new world, and so that's how we look at it." Orange County Property Appraiser’s mapping tool also shows there is more than 100,000 square feet of space for the venue within the themed area, Celestial Park, which is considered the main hub at Epic Universe. The same mapping tool also appears to show about 20,000 square feet of land within the vacant space at Celestial Park is being cleared to prepare for construction. Independent outlets covering the theme park industry have noticed construction work underway here as well, with Bioreconstruct releasing aerial photos Jan. 30 of the space and its land being cleared on social media. OBJ reached out to Universal Orlando Resortofficials for comment on the development but did not receive a response before publication. However, officials previously confirmed there will be “exciting additions” coming to Epic Universe. “We are preparing for some exciting additions to Universal Epic Universe in the future," Vice President of Public Relations Alyson Sologaistoa told OBJ in an emailed statement in November. "Details about specific developments will be shared in due time." This move by Universal to build a new event space at the theme park may be worthwhile, as the resort offers an array of options for groups or companies looking to have an event or meeting at its hotels or parks. The convention industry is expected to continue to grow in Orlando. For example, the Orange County Convention Center is expected to have a record-breaking year in 2026. Executive Director Mark Tester previously said there are 185 events, totaling an estimated 2.3 million attendees, booked from October 2025 until October 2026. That activity amounts to the expected $5 billion boost for the area. “Business is incredibly strong,” Tester said. “Not only conventions and trade shows have rebounded, but people have a desire to be face-to-face as they want to network or look for new products.” According to the 2026 Global Meetings Events Forecast study from American Express, 85% of professionals in this industry reported feeling “optimistic” for the sector this year. The report states this is the highest these numbers have been since 2021.

  12. ^They didn't sell the interactive wands used during the experience but for the souvenir/replica wands I genuinely didn't check the prices. Sorry!
  13. With the park closing early and this being my only full day off from work, I pushed against my own exhaustion to experience something that had been intriguing me since I first found out I would be going to Singapore. Harry Potter: Visions of Magic is billed as an interactive art experience. At a high level, it reminds me of a mix between those immersive projection room attractions, (to a degree) some of the TeamLab experiences (which I'd get a chance to see one on this trip) and in a not-subtle way, the interactive wand experiences found in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter locations across the globe. The experience is a separate-ticket offering within the Resorts World Sentosa complex. It allows you to scratch that Harry Potter itch in lieu of a Wizarding World of Harry Potter realm found in the park next door. You are equipped with a wand upon entry that can be used to illuminate your way through the experience. Unlike the interactive wands in the Universal parks, this wand features a touch-sensitive trigger and a lit wand tip to show you're triggering the magic. Not unlike other immersive art installations, the experience is mostly done at your own pace, with you being allowed to go back and revisit almost all rooms along the way. The Knight Bus is the formal kickoff to the experience and features a transportive introduction to the journey ahead... Once inside the Knight Bus, the inside is far more spacious as the outside facade lets on. Next up is Grimmauld Place... The rooms range in size throughout the experience but most of them are covered in interactive projection surfaces. This room represents (and transforms between) the two Ministries of Magic seen on film across the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises, the British and French ministries. We start here in the French ministries with references abound from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. But soon after the room transforms into the more recognizable green and black tile hues of the British ministry. The Hall of Prophecy feels like something someone went to a TeamLab installation and decided that they could accomplish the same kind of effects with a Potter sequence. Throughout the room are prophecies with embedded targets, that when you point and activate your wand, they set off effects, visible and auditory. This was easily one of the most layered rooms in the experience with the most unique interactive points to find. Leading into the Chamber of Secrets is a door that fully replicates the iconic mechanisms from the film. The Chamber of Secrets is a neat room to explore but it had less trigger points than I would have hoped. One of the few rooms in the experience dedicated purely to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Having been spoiled by Knockturn Alley in Universal Studios Florida, this section was a little underwhelming. But there were some neat effects to be triggered. Darkness... Where might this lead? It leads to the Room of Requirement, in fact. Tons of triggered effects within this room, revealing recognizable props from the films... As well as some other effects that I wasn't familiar with from the movies. But lots of notable props. The finale room uses projection and artistry to present the final battle between Harry Potter and Voldemort, playing across this room with this center Pensieve being the focal point. Harry on one side... The Dark Lord on the other... As in the story/films, Harry wins and we are returned to Hogwarts where we can trigger fireworks effects with our wands, representing the four house animals. Is it even a Harry Potter attraction if there isn't an insane variety of merchandise to choose from? And yes, they sell (non-interactive) wands here. Also in the attraction's shop is a Butterbeer Bar that serves the namesake beverage plus other themed treats. You can even buy a bottled variety of Butterbeer here. So much to choose from! I stuck to the traditional Butterbeer... Having tried it at Universal and non-Universal locations (like the Harry Potter Studio Tour London) alike, I wsa curious to see if the formula would be any different. I'm not sure if it is catered to more local taste profiles, but compared to the stateside versions I've enjoyed, this version was surprisingly bland and watery. Harry Potter: Visions of Magic is a great experience for Potter fans. It is probably a little too niche for more casual guests but as a fan of the franchise, I enjoyed it and the hour and a half diversion it provided me. I tried a local shawarma chain in the Sentosa complex and washed it down with a delicious and refreshing Coca-Cola. After a long day out it was time to go back to the hotel and rest before the next day's work.

JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group announced Monday that it has secured construction financing for the project, called Dellshire Resort. JLL worked with Uphoff Ventures to secure a loan through a combination of a private lender and a commercial property assessed clean energy (C-PACE) lender. Dellshire Resort will include a four-story luxury-themed hotel, two restaurants with a total of 350 seats, bars, retail shops, six indoor and outdoor pools, a meeting space for up to 280 people, a 9,000-square-foot family entertainment center and amusement rides. Plain, Wisconsin-based Kraemer Brothers is leading the construction project. Site work began last year. The hotel will provide substantially larger and more luxurious room product than currently exists in the market. With access to nearby waterparks, gorgeous nature-oriented facilities, mixed virtual reality components and an entertainment-oriented resort, the Dellshire amenities will offer year-round appeal to guests.” And photos were shared last June of the construction reaching significant heights... 18. Dreamland Margate has announced that Scenic Railway has officially closed permanently after existing for more than one hundred years. The coaster has a storied history including several significant closures as a result of fire and a notable restoration completed in 2015 which restored the coaster to operation. The park is seeking proposals to reinvent the Scenic Railway for future generations. A previous restoration of the ride, completed in 2015, required 320 tonnes of timber https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvgrznzpelro A 100-year-old rollercoaster, believed to be the oldest in Britain, has closed for good. Dreamland Margate in Kent announced on Tuesday that the amusement park's Scenic Railway would "take well-earned retirement from operation as a ride". A restoration of the Grade II* listed rollercoaster was completed in 2015 after it had closed in 2005 and suffered an arson attack in 2008. "Dreamland is committed to finding a new long-term plan to reinvent the Scenic Railway and for it to be enjoyed by future generations in a fresh way," a spokesperson said. The Scenic Railway in Margate will "take well-earned retirement" The theme park said an "extensive process of consultations and inspections" were carried out but it was "concluded that, after 100+ years, the ride has come to the end of its current life". The decision was taken "in close consultation" with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England and Thanet District Council, the spokesperson said. The Scenic Railway, one of the theme park's star attractions, has been out of action since a fault in 2024. The Scenic Railway, pictured in 1966, has long been a flagship attraction at Dreamland Dreamland said it would host a pop-up exhibition on the ride's history later in 2026 and the rollercoaster would "be re-invented for people to enjoy in a different way". The wooden ride first opened in 1920 and, according to Historic England, suffered fires in 1949 and 1957. Its 2015 restoration was part of an £18m investment in reopening the park, which had spent a decade closed to the public. A restoration of the ride after a period of dilapidation and an arson attack was completed in 2015 Dreamland posted surveys on its social media soliciting suggestions for repurposing the ride and requesting memories of the attraction. "If you are a creative thinker with a practical approach, or a dreamer with a thoughtful and achievable vision, we would love to hear from you," the park said.

The Orlando Sentinel posted a follow-up story this week confirming that the new Orlando location will sit roughly 10 minutes from Walt Disney World near the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores outlet mall. The site plan calls for a 90,000-square foot indoor waterpark that will be 60 feet tall and have a retractable roof. There’s also an outdoor park and event lawn, a slide zone and over 11,000 square feet of retail planned for the attraction. (Site plan by Kimley-Horn) https://www.orlandosentinel.com/2026/01/16/location-revealed-for-mattels-new-toy-themed-waterpark/ The location of toy giant Mattel’s new indoor waterpark is no longer a mystery. It’s going to be 10 minutes from Disney on Vineland Road, just south of the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores outlet mall. The development team, which is composed of Mattel and Orlando-based Martin Aquatic, filed conceptual plans this week for the 11-acre site that will feature a 90,000-square-foot indoor water park with a retractable roof, an outdoor waterpark and event lawn, a “slide zone” and 11,400 square feet of retail space, according to a report in GrowthSpotter. The building could be up to 60 feet high, which is definitely tall enough to fit a life-sized Barbie Dream House. The plan from Kimley-Horn shows parking for 752 vehicles, including 368 to be located in a parking garage. The company behind such iconic brands as Barbie, Hot Wheels and Thomas the Tank Engine, announced the water park venture just before Thanksgiving. Creative and operational work is underway, led by Orlando-based Martin Aquatic. The Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark is planned for an 11-acre site on S.R. 535, next to the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores. (Orange County Property Appraiser) “I can say that we will have an exclusive ride that will be a water slide that you can only experience at Mattel,” Josh Martin, president and creative director, told the Orlando Sentinel. This will be the first of five such attractions, branded as Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks. The design focus is on bringing the world of Mattel products to life, and each park will have 12 or more unique brands featured, Martin said. “We’re looking at those classic, iconic elements … What is familiar but unique about a Barbie area? So we look at the architecture. We’re not so focused on having Barbie characters. That’s not going to be the intent,” Martin said. “Mattel has an incredible history of board games and Mattel toys and games, and so being able to look at things like Uno, and think outside the box — what if I were to design a water slide that was around Uno? What elements would I include that feels like you’re playing the game?” Some vendors have been selected, he said, including Canada-based OpenAire, which makes an aluminum-glass building with a retractable roof. “The beauty of their building is it’s not like the traditional Great Wolf Lodge or some of the old legacy indoor water parks. It has natural light. It’s got a roof that lets natural weather come in,” Martin said. “In Florida, it’s going to be weatherized and protect us. We’re not going to run the risk of afternoon thunderstorms clearing out our water park.” The vacant land, right on the Orange-Osceola line and north of the Sunrise City mixed-use district, is owned by Countyline Properties LLC. They previously submitted plans about a decade ago to build a second phase of the outlet mall on the property, which would have added roughly 110,000 square feet of new retail space, but never followed through on the project.
  21. Särkänniemi has shared some new off-season photos of the snow-covered park, including photos of the under-construction Konect family coaster! https://www.instagram.com/p/DTvCQHCCj3w/?img_index=4&igsh=Y2F6YmF3OGNsdGM2 Towards summer and a new roller coaster! The construction of the Konect roller coaster, which will open in the summer of 2026, is progressing on schedule. During the first part of the year, the first sections of the track were put in place and from now on, this wonderful novelty will rise at a fairly rapid pace! Konect is Finland's first bigger roller coaster, where a meter long amateur can ride it together with an adult. Enough speed for the wild ones, but still not too wild for the youngest of the family or the parents and grandparents. At 525 meters long, 27 meters high and a top speed of 68 kilometers per hour, this is definitely not a small coaster. In fact, it is the longest family roller coaster built by @vekoma.rides.manufacturing in Europe, and also the tallest in its category. The new hamburger restaurant, which will be opened next summer, is also being built at a great pace. Are you going to come and feast during leisure? Only 101 more nights and we get to Särkänniemi, Särkänniemi again!

  24. Gideon's Bakehouse has announced a new venture at Disney Springs, Six Ravens. This new quick service location will serve "Coffyns," yeast bread-based hand pies with savory fillings. Other menu items teased include potatoes, local beers and more of Gideon's namesake desserts. This location will operate separately and in addition to the existing Gideon's Bakehouse location at Disney Springs (along with the original East End Market location). https://www.instagram.com/p/DTko0nTDh5I/?img_index=1 Today is the 5-year anniversary of Gideon’s in Disney Springs, and we’re ready to celebrate with you! It feels like a good day to make an announcement. This year might be our biggest year of growth, and there is one little mystery that people have been asking about. So let me tell you a little story. A few years ago, we started exploring ideas for something new that met a grab-and-go need in a small space. I will admit that another small shop caused some hesitation, but an idea came to mind that was hard to ignore. What if we created a place that offered up savory delights in collaboration with some of our favorite Central Florida chefs? After all, I got my start at Disney Springs as a secret menu item at the Polite Pig. It’s important to pay it forward and bring more local flavors to the international crowds we meet every day. So with that, I introduce you to Six Ravens. This new concept specializes in a creation we call Coffyns, the original term for an old school hand pie. This fluffy yeast bread is filled with flavors created not only by the talented minds in Gideon’s kitchen but also by some of your favorite Orlando culinary superstars. Combine that with potatoes, local draft beer, and, of course, some tasty desserts, and you will have a fun new place to fuel your park adventures. Six Ravens opens at Disney Springs later this year. Stay tuned here for details or follow @six.ravens! I’ll eventually start telling you more about our journey and share some behind-the-scenes as we build the stories in this new chapter. In addition to the unveiling of Six Ravens, we’d like to celebrate with a free gift! As you might have seen in my previous post, a Gargoyle Print will be available exclusively at Gideon’s in Disney Springs today! Limit one per transaction. While supplies last! We’re also adding some Birthday Cake Dunking Sticks to our menu today! Perfect for dipping in your Cold Brew! Both locations! While Supplies Last. Limit 2 per person. I just want to end by saying Thank You for supporting small local business at Disney Springs for the past 5 years. It has been an honor to represent our local community on the big stage. https://www.orlandoweekly.com/food-drink/food-news/six-ravens-by-gideons-bakehouse-owner-steve-lewis-is-coming-to-disney-springs/ Gideon’s Bakehouse started as a cult fave inside East End Market 10 years ago, then grew into an international phenomenon when owner Steve Lewis began hawking his half-pound cookie behemoths inside Disney Springs five years ago to the day. Lewis is now capitalizing on Gideon’s popularity with a concept called Six Ravens, a shop specializing in grab-and-go hand pies he’s calling “coffyns” — fluffy yeast rolls encasing a variety of savory fillings. Even better is that he’ll work with some local culinarians, like Eliot Hillis and Seth Parker of Red Panda Noodle and Bruno Zacchini of Pizza Bruno, on the hand pie offerings. Steve Lewis Credit: courtesy photo “Six Ravens is the result of collaborating with the family we’ve created at Gideon’s, and our friendships within the community, ” Lewis says. “We look forward to being a gateway to local flavors on the international stage by spotlighting our Orlando superstars.” Lewis says he spent years tinkering and experimenting with various coffyn fillings in his downtime with friends and peers from Orlando’s food scene. Spreading the wealth and affording local outfits with some powerhouse exposure was always the plan. “I got my start at Disney Springs as a secret menu item at the Polite Pig,” he says. “It’s important to pay it forward and bring more local flavors to the international crowds we meet every day.” Six Ravens will open in the building previously occupied by The Art of Shaving just a few doors down from Gideon’s Bakehouse. Lewis says the space might be small, but promises to “pack your world with flavors and the escapism that comes with the world of Gideon’s.” Gideon’s Bakehouse art director Michael Reyes will curate the design and imagery of the space, while Studio 407 will oversee the buildout. As far as the name is concerned, “The Six Ravens” first appeared on Gideon’s bill of fare in November 2023, and the menu card featuring a cloaked figure with a conspiracy of those feathered croakers has since become a collectible item. “I’ve been hinting for years that some of the Gideon’s characters are meant to venture off and create their own adventures.” From a historical perspective, ravens have long been tied to the lore of the Tower of London. Legend claims that should the six resident ravens ever leave, the kingdom will crumble. Caw! Caw! Caw! Caw! Smashed Potato with Honey Mustard Credit: Six Ravens Accompanying those coffyns will be smashed potato fritters with dips ranging from sweet heat to a storied honey mustard that Lewis has been serving to his friends for decades. Six Ravens will also collaborate with Sideward Brewing and the The Ravenous Pig Brewing Co. on beer offerings. And, yes, there will be sweet treats. Lewis hasn’t finalized the menu as yet, but he’ll reveal the flavors and collaborations bit by bit as the opening date nears, which should be sometime in Q3. That said, Hillis teased that his coffyn contribution may include chicken curry. Will we see four-and-20 blackbirds baked into one of those pies? Follow @six.ravens to find out.
  25. The second half of the day was a rushed one as we aimed to experience as much as we could before the park's early closing. We moved from Far Far Away to Minions Land as our hosts had yet to experience this expansion since it opened. Similar to the Minions Land found at Universal Studios Japan, the experience here is bright, over-the-top and filled with Minion character moments. The space is huge (or at least it feels that way) and it definitely seems like a popular upgrade from the former Madagascar realm that was once in this same plot of land. They had a few fun Minions games in the Super Silly Fun Land section of Minions Land... Including this perfect recreation of the Super Silly Space Killer game from the first Despicable Me movie! Just so much to take in! They nailed the Super Silly Fun Land feel from the film. Very cute. Equally cute. Time for what ended up being my favorite thing we experienced in the park that day... I'm not even kidding. This Halloween Minions show was adorable and super fun to watch! And the Halloween minions looked great! It'll never not amaze me that the ride system for The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera gave life to this attraction in 1990 in Florida but has also managed to be cloned in modern times in Hollywood, Beijing and Singapore. Japan's version of the ride replaced Back to the Future: The Ride, and while the ride film is virtually the same (save for added bookends to help facilitate the film being shown on the larger screen), the ride system is different. The scale of the interior queue is larger than those I've seen in Florida or Japan. But as you go deeper in, it starts to feel more familiar... Right down to the 106.7 FM radio reference, a nod to the enduring radio station in Orlando, that has been copied in each of the queues since. The final pre-show is the same as well. If you've ridden it in Florida, Hollywood or Beijing, you know what to expect here. And the post-show experience is equally familiar. Buggie Boogie is the land's third attraction, but as I discovered with research after this trip, actually a re-themed experience from the former Madagascar land. It's a cute carousel though. Jumping back to Far Far Away we managed to see Shrek & Fiona greeting guests in from the Shrek 4-D. Yes, we chose to ride this. The queue had some pretty fun details... The train for Enchanted Airways was very nicely themed for the land. Waterworld is tucked in the back of The Lost World but was sadly closed for refurbishment during my visit. Back in Sci-Fi City, I still couldn't get over how sprawling these coasters' were in this section of the land. It wasn't easy to get photos of the coasters in motion with one-train operations taking place all day... But the coaster looks nice. Accelerator is a mini tea cups, like a smaller version of Storm Force Accelatron in Islands of Adventure. Sci-Fi City has such a neat, a different-for-Universal aesthetic. I was intrigued when I saw Star Dots, thinking that I could get Dippin' Dots in unique flavors here... It turns out they sold everything here except the ice cream of the future. Next up was Lights Camera Action! presented by Steven Spielberg. In the vein of classic Universal special effects shows like Backdraft and Twister, this show is smaller in scale but features an introduction from a famous director and then sends you into the movie set to watch firsthand how a sequence of unfortunate events plays out dangerously. In this case, we're in the middle of a hurricane inside of a boathouse. Of course, there's fire and fiery water. And there's watery explosions. And then a tanker crashes into the boathouse! They were doing small Halloween acknowledgements in the New York section of the park for daytime guests. Much of the staging seen here was actually set up for Halloween Horror Nights which would start the following week. They gave out candy on our way out! I'd never had this before. As we made our way towards the exit of the park as closing time neared, I was able to spot Battlestar Galactica in motion. Cylcons in flight. The covered Hollywood section at the entrance is nice, albeit smaller than others like it. This was a neat touch I noticed on my way out. Passing through the gift shop at the entrance, something caught my eye... I somehow managed to miss riding Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit while I was here. Just outside of the entrance of the park you'll find a Hershey's Chocolate World store. I've now been to the one in Singapore, Hershey, New York, and Las Vegas! They also had a sizable LEGO store... Some very cool localized models here. I loved the Merlion man and the Gardens by the Bay models!
