It does seem a bit odd to see Paramount getting back in the game. Especially as the park in Korea never got past the advertising hordings. What other IP's do Paramount have that they could use for ride themes? If this does get built they maybe able to exploit the up and coming MI:4 and Tomb Raider reboots properly.

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

Don't you just love this time of the year? All the speculation and the guessing over what's coming next year This one, Dollywood, and Hershey Park all have me chomping at the bit to know what's going on. -
Lovely pics so far. In reference to the airlines I always try and go Virgin Atlantic, never had any issues with them and although sometimes they are a little more expensive I generally find it worth it on a long haul flight. (on the 24 hour trip to Fiji they were about £75 more than the American equivalents) How did you find the general level of service in Italy? I backpacked through for a few days last year and found on several occasions restaurant, train and hotel staff to be incredibly abrupt and on occasion rude. Maybe it's just because I'm English or perhaps because It seemed that way because I had just come from the incredibly friendly Croatia. Just interested to see other peoples experiences.

Planned but Cancelled
Gutterflower replied to Rollercoaster Rider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This ride was actually built at the now defunct Lotte Sky Plaza in the Lotte Hotel Pusan, South Korea. It used to run along the wall of the indoor park and dive down into the diving turns at the end. Must have looked pretty good back then. Interestingly the exact same ride ended up at E-DA theme park in Taiwan this year. The prototype that was sat at the Vekoma facility has sat there all these years since the Fantasy Island debacle. And was finally built earlier this year. Looks like it got newer versions of the trains but apart from that it's the same ride. -
Planned but Cancelled
Gutterflower replied to Rollercoaster Rider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That planned Schwartzkopf Racer for Alton Towers can be seen here The ride was cancelled when Tussauds (with their young designer John Wardley) took over the park in 1990 and was replaced with the plan for Nemesis. (I believe there was a cancelled plan for a pipeline on the same site as nemesis too but never seen a photo) There is a quote from John Wardley from an Old ECC interview below -
Theme Park Review in JAPAN! 2011

Love the sound Venus makes. I still think that rising S-Bend and U shaped turn after the loop is one of the most aestheticly pleasing parts of a coaster in the world. -
Hey guys Over the last couple of days I have been working on a bit of an odd guide about the multitude of different Chinese SLC models that have appeared over the last few years. I have put up a first draft today and wondered if you guys could read it and tell me what you think? There are 4 companies currently in the Chinese SLC market and hopefully this article distinguishes between them well. In short what I would like to know is does does this article get the point across? and is it easy to read? I can think of no one better to test this that R&E to be honest. http://vhcoasters.com/chinese-slc-guide/ Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated however small. Obviously this is a first draft an I understand If I have missed something major. R&E you guys have ridden a fair number of these. More than anyone else i know, and because of that do you guys think the Chinese versions deserve their poor reputation? Cheers Dave

I came across this the other day. Looks nice but I can't say I am surprised to see Golden Horse completely rip off another companies design yet again though. -

Best Miniature Golf courses
Gutterflower replied to Rastuso's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you want a unique location for a mini golf course you can't beat the Turda Salt Mine in Romania. deep underground next to an underground lake (which you can boat around. It's by no means the most amazing course when it comes to hole variety but it's a hell of a location. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salina_Turda -
The actual Mall is already open to the public. This part indoor part outdoor park is part of the second stage of development which is due to open later this summer. (there is a Giant Wheel already running) Looks like most of the rides are constructed including the Disko, Wave Swinger, Drop Tower, Top Scan and Log Flume) Is it me or does the Layout on the map not seem to relate to the image taken from indoors?
-
This one has been known for a while but it looks like the East China Mall has finally got construction underway and Vekomas newest Motorbike Coaster has been constructed. To me this looks like more like a junior coaster layout. but apparently Vekoma confirmed it as a Motorbike last years IAAPA. (+ there doesnt seem to be a lift hill) The Layout seems to be a simple one The outside section. Part of the indoor section Another view of the outdoor section. The parks log flume is up as well. Oh and they have added another high Capacity ride... A Star Flyer called Bancho The website below details that with some of the worst theme park music ever http://www.fujiq.jp/attraction/special/bancho/ ADMIN EDIT: I went ahead and uploaded the photos since they were on Photobucket. Thanks for sharing this with! -
Hey guys I shall be visiting China a few times over the next year and I am planning on visiting the massive Harbin Ice Festival next January. Upon researching it I discovered that over the last few years one of the major contributors has been Disney, Who built massive versions of well known Disney landmarks out of Ice. The Pictures have to be seen to be believed. Especially the night shots This was actually done by Disney, Not some Chinese rip off The classic Disney castle as you've never seen it before Hidden Micky? not so well hidden really Cinderella s Castle, Despite looking nothing like the actual Cinderella castle it does feature working lifts and escalators I cannot wait to visit next year There are lovely touches all around the festival. It's not just Disney on site. There are massive Ice sculptures all over The festival has been running since the 1960s and to give an idea of the scale Please take the time to read some of the links below for more of an idea on the whole festival. I really cant wait for this next year . It's a bit out of the way but the flights are not too bad from the UK. Well i decided to play with Mitches Coaster Poll and join it up with RCDB stats to see if there are any interesting correlations. Turns out not much Heres the length of the top 50 coasters on the last poll Not much of a trend there really (the ones with 0 were because there was no length on the RCDB) But when we look at manufacturer dominance of the top 50, check this out. Yikes... B&M and Intamin are crushing the field here. Not that surprising really but i didn't expect it to be that high. However when we look at the types we get a pretty good spread It was really hard to make categories here but i split them down to what i thought worked. Launched loopers were split from normal loopers but really rides like Blue Fire and Storm Runner could have gone in either Launched or Loopers or their own catagory. :s I shall try add some of the lowest ranked rides soon and perhaps a more in-depth analysis Sorry about the screens being thumbnailed here. But as I am using a massive screen here and had to print screen these in a hurry they are actually even larger that the last lot
