  1. We were told that Knott's had 5.5 million combined with Soak City. That's not even remotely possible if the Knott's park had only 3.9 million (rounding up). You're telling me SC had 1.6 million visitors in 2015? Something's not right here. On a side note if Cedar Point and Canada's Wonderand are seasonal parks while Knotts s open year round yet all have around the same attendance then CP and CW must be crowded
  2. Because it doesn't fit the theming and it destroyed the lagoon. Exactly! It's not so much that it looks bad now, but that it wrecked something that looked much better. Wouldn't be surprised if Ouimet decides to relocate Bullet elsewhere in the chain if that's the case. I did think it made the park feel a little front loaded when I visited a few years back. No, it's too popular a ride at Knott's. They'd never relocate it as long as ridership is up. I read an idea elsewhere online that they should move it to another spot within the park. If they decided to expand into the south parking lot they could move it there.
  3. Silver Bullet Batmen (SFMM) I have a question. Dueling coasters like the old Colouss count as one coaster but aren't Fireball and Horntail at IoA technically count as two separate coasters since their tracks aren't mirrored?
  4. I've only been to parks in two states: California: Xcelerator Utah: Roller Coaster (I haven't been on Wicked or Cannibal yet)
  5. Because it doesn't fit the theming and it destroyed the lagoon.
  6. When you guys are saying combo you mean on one tower? How's that work? I thought they were set up for one or the other.
  7. This isn't debate to compare S&S rides with others like ARM/Larson or Intamin. This just within the realm of the S&S towers, which is the better option: Turbo Drop, Space Shot, or Double Shot?
  8. Why is it called a "Super Shot"? There's no shot involved.
  9. Except that everything between Iron Reef and Xcelerator is very popular with their target demographic. And it was a huge investment. They aren't removing any of that within the next ten to fifteen years.
  10. Yeah, that was the scariest part. I was thinking okay shouldn't we start braking now.
  11. There's a traveling carnival that comes through my town each year and yesterday I finally went on my first Super Shot, as well my first Larson (holy crap I thought I was going to die) Fireball. I haven't felt free fall like that since Freefall at SFMM. The only other drop towers I've been on are S&S Turbo Drops, and while fun the drop isn't a true free fall. Are the Intamin rides similar? Oh and the Fireball, no thank you.
  12. There's no room for a hyper. I just don't see a hyper fitting into their plans. There is no need for one.
  13. Aside from it being mentioned on wikipedia with no citation, I've never heard that the K is officially a landmark. It's only been there since the 70's, so I'm not exactly sure how it would qualify for landmark status since it really has no historical significance aside from being visible . Realistically, I think they made the change because they realized the logistics of taking down the tower and then adding a new one didn't really make much sense. Parks also need balance. Families and history are great, but families also have kids that grow up. Even the Knott's family had to buy the best thrills they could afford to stay competitive (Monte, Boomerang, GhostRider, and even the ill-fated Windjammer). It's from an interview with Kaprelyan a few years ago. Can't find the article.
  14. I can't women who complain, "why do men design heels so high" to which I answer "because you keep buying them!"
  15. I'm new here, haven't been around since 05, and I am not reading 700 pages of comments. So if this has already been covered, too bad. One of my biggest pet peeves, when I go to order at a fast food joint and I ask for a cheeseburger and they ask, "the meal or just the sandwich?" Um, what words came out of my mouth? Did I ask for freaking number 4? No. If I had wanted the meal I would have asked for the meal. I'm not an idiot! And then they hand me my change without counting it out, coins on top of bills where they inevitably slide off. Seriously hand me coins first then count out the bills. If the bill was $5.99 and I hand you a $20 then you are to give me back a penny and say "six" then count the bills largest to smallest. If it's a $10 and four $1's then you hand me the ten and say "sixteen" then the one's and count each individually, "seventeen" "eighteen" "nineteen" "twenty". But no they just hand me bills with coins on top and say $14.01 and expect me to believe them. Then I check and make they got my order correct, right there in front of them. Yeah I sound like a crotchety old man but at 39 I've earned the right. Get off my lawn!
  16. I can't stand this response. I think four out of five is pretty dang good, but boy if I didn't give it five stars then gosh darn it they're doing something wrong. Truth is I don't believe in rating anything five stars or excellent as there is no such thing as perfection. There is always room for improvement and that's not a bad thing. It's actually a good thing.
  17. Chance's Hyper GTX is much too big for the Boardwalk. Sure it has a small footprint, but it is still big for Knott's. They have to remove the restaurant between Xcelerator and Coast Rider, wrap the layout around Sky Tower and over the flat rides next to CR. I would much rather them remove Xcelerator's figure eight and make the ride longer with inversions like Storm Runner or iSpeed. Think about it, Xcelerator is still going almost 70 mph when it hits the final brake run. What a waste of speed. Use that momentum to create a new coaster without really removing one. The only thing Xcelerator really has going for it is the launch and top hat anyway. All the figure eight does is keep it from being another Monty with a trick.
  18. God, I hope so! Screamscape is reporting it too. This is how I've wanted them to redevelop the park to gain space and utilize the real estate! I am hoping they can further improve the Boardwalk atmosphere. The 2013 renovation was great, I hope they can extend that across the whole back half of the park. Here's the space I imagine they may be able to work with: Yellow: The land occupied by Riptide and Boomerang Red: The land occupied by Sky Tower, Wipeout, and various food/games buildings. Demolish the Sky Tower like they originally planned for Windseeker. Orange: Move Wipeout to Windseeker's spot! Kinda like how they moved the Scrambler. Blue: I don't know what these buildings occupy, but it may be possible to use this space too? First the Blue areas, in addition to Ballroom as was already mentioned, also include an employee restaurant, break room, locker rooms, rest rooms, and a park office. Second, they can't touch Sky Tower or they would have for Windseeker. The "K" atop the tower and it's exact position in the freaking sky are registered historic landmarks. In order for Sky Tower to be removed Knott's would have to find a way to remount the "K" on top of whatever new attraction was built there and in its exact location where it currently sits. The EXACT location on TOP. It can not be off so much a millimeter in any direction up, down, east, west, side to side, etc; nor can any other structure be around it, so it can't be mounted on the side of a coaster lift, for example. It has to be on top visible as a landmark. Thirdly, Knott's and CF CEO Matt Ouimet have reaffirmed that Knott's is a themed family destination with an emphasis on families and history. It is not a coaster thrill destination, it is not meant to rival SFMM or Disneyland. There will likely be no traditional hyper coaster ever built at Knott's in the future, though I could see a dive machine or even a Euro Fighter. Ouimet and park GM Raffi Kaprelyan have both publicly stated that KBF's focus on coasters for the sake of coasters after the CF acquisition, specifically Silver Bullet's destruction of the lagoon, as well as Pony Express was a mistake.
  19. Injured simply means not killed. They could still be missing limbs and/or have permanent brain damage.
  20. I went back three days and didn't see one already posted. Normally, if it's on the front page, it's already posted. No Tron videos on front page. Let's see, TPR main page... Yep. May, 9th I thought you meant of this thread. I don't go to the TPR main main page very often.

  23. I thought pneumatic, like S&S, were held up up by a constant cushion of air so even if the cables failed the carriage wouldn't plummet to the ground.
  24. This is the third topic I searched before starting and the existing post didn't come up.
  25. S&S, ARM Larson, and Intamin are the big three makers of drop towers. What is safer or more reliable magnetic or pneumatic braking?
