If by younger you mean psycho rude bastard buttholes who will completely ruin your experience then I completely. SFMM as a whole has gone downhill in the ten-fifteen years. But I don't know where you get that Knott's is all old people, then again a little maturity from people who actually know what it is we are celebrating, would a welcome change. I asked several of my coworkers, all under 30, what July 4th is. I got responses like "independence from the south in the Civil War", "winning WW2", and my favorite "independence from Canada in 1964".

Without a doubt Knott's. Better fireworks. Better atmosphere. More activities during day for families. Definitely Knott's. Though Six Flags is also pretty crowded, knotts has lots of 4th of July events bringing in more people. Knott's has better fireworks too. It's just a completely different environment being a smaller park.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
coloradocoasterguy replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In a word, no. Woodies like GR can be easily re-tracked because it doesn't require any changes to the support structure. The tracks are separate from the structure. With steel coasters like B&M, however, the ties are built onto the track and the spine helps to support it as well. Also, none of the existing track could be used because though the Giovanola track looks B&M it's actually narrower. Titan, Goliath, and Anaconda are all two abreast coasters. B&M would basically have to completely rebuild a whole new coaster, which is what they did with Hulk. Hulk wasn't re-tracked. It was rebuilt. -

AE is side by side except for the helix approach and station approach/departure which are mirrored. Dueling coasters are essentially two separate rides like Dueling Dragons at USOF. The two tracks of AE don't really offer a different ride from the other. At least that's my understanding. As for the Euro Fighter lift I'm not referring to how it works. I'm referencing the vertical aspect. I know you were simply referencing the topics and I answered them.
-
Are we talking Topper Track or I Box? TT are wooden. IB are not. Gerstlauer didn't invent the vertical lift. Chance did with the Toboggan ride. AE is a racing coaster since the two tracks mirror each other side by side. Why aren't over banked turns inversions but inclined loops are? Because OT don't LOOP! Inversions are where the track exits the element a complete 360 from from it entered in one form or another. Think about it. Corkscrews, each half of a cobra roll, loops including inclined, zero G rolls, pretzels, Immelmann, dive loop, etc etc. Karnan is technically a hyper because it's over 200 feet WM is gravity powered and has railed track therefore it's a coaster.

People are still stupid. If you don't count things like heart attacks, anyerisms, and morons walking under or on the track then the number of people killed or seriously maimed by coaster accidents is actually pretty low compared other kinds of accidents. -

Wasn't also because the manual was only in German and not translated into English? From what I understand the manufacturer went bankrupt during delivery of the ride and Galaxyland had a different company install the ride while also finishing parts of the ride on their own based on bad translations into English. This is a different issue. -
Your title should have been "Is this the world's most..." As it is I thought we'd be telling what our most intense coaster was. Damn you for getting me hopes up BTW this is an Intamin Blitz coaster called Red Fire. 180.4 feet tall. 3,215.3 feet long. 90 degree top hat. 0-68.4 in 2.5 seconds with two inversions. No not the most intense coaster.

I always thought it was the other way around. That "Megacoaster" was the model and "Hypercoaster" is the classification. It's weird actually. Technically any coaster over 200 feet is classified as a hyper. Even stratas and gigas are hypers by broad definition. The first closed circuit coaster to reach 200 feet was Magnum XL-200 in 1989. Cedar Point and it's designer, Arrow Dynamics coined the term "hyper coaster". MXL200 at the same time kinda set the bar as to what was a hyper coaster; tall, long, and fast with no inversions. However, MXL200 was not the first roller coaster to reach 200 feet. That distinction goes to Moonsault Scramble, an obscure now defunct Vekoma shuttle coaster that debuted in Japan in 1983. It featured two inversions in the form of a pretzel knot and topped out at 229.7 feet. But no one considers it to be a hyper because while it fits the broad definition of 200 feet, it doesn't fit the narrow definition of tall, long, and fast with no inversions. Even Wikipedia makes note of shuttle coasters, launch coasters, dive coasters, 4D coasters, wooden coasters, and coasters with inversions as not fitting that narrow definition. And Intamin simply deals with any confusion regarding the issue by only calling their coasters which fit the narrow definition "hypers". [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]

M&D Scotland's Tsunami derails

Yeah, first the Smiler and now this. Here's hoping that Lost Gravity isn't next. I mean, I hope it never happens again, but these things do happen unfortunately. Suddenly, the SLC doesn't sound that bad. It's probably the difference from being hit by a semi and being hit by a sedan, but still. Horrible news. Hope all manage to recover. Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised to see the words "M&Ds" and "Accident" in the same sentance. Ever since I first saw photos of that place, I was shocked that I hadn't heard of any major accidents taking place there. Seems like it was bound to happen... Then again, at a park with a Pinfari innert, what can you expect? As a side note: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobra_(Tivoli_Friheden) Not aPinfari, but a similar enough style of ride... There's a reason only select companies build inverts (Excluding Chinese Knock-offs).... Good example of "Do it right or don't do it at all". More likely the park failing to keep it maintained. Look at all the rust and dirt on those wheels. -

That was my first thought as well. But Ride Tek, which was the manufacturer of Cobra, was composed of former employees of... Pinfari. As far as I can recall, yes. -

M&D Scotland's Tsunami derails
coloradocoasterguy replied to UKCoasterFan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In 2014 Ninja, an Arrow non-looping invert at SFMM, was partly derailed when it hit a tree that had fallen across the track. (For those who don't know, Ninja winds down a thickly forested hillside.) But only the first car derailed and was left hanging connected to the rest of the train. The four people in that car sustained minor blunt force injuries to their torso from being slammed forward into their OTSR. For the entire train to come of the track like this one did something catastrophic happened. BTW anyone else notice the eagle deign on the wheel covers is the Philadelphia Eagles logo? -

Injured simply means not dead. Injured includes amputations and permanent brain damage and by looking at those pictures I can't see how there won't be some.
