It would be cheaper than building a whole new coaster. They don't have any more room. If they want another coaster they'll have to remove something. Xcelerator's only real draw is the launch and top hat. Why not create a whole new coaster experience without really removing a current ride? Also the recent refurbishment was just regularly scheduled maintenance that lasted a week. They just went through and replaced some worn out train and flywheel parts. They do it every couple years.

I don't think there's enough room for the cobra roll or final break run, but I like where your head's at. It would be great if KBF attempted an xcelerator 2.0. It makes sense in the limited space to create substantial new rides but also that there's an infinite number of ways they could improve it. I just doubt it will ever happen :/ You are looking at a 2D representation of a 3D layout. Most of that Cobra Roll is more vertical than I drew it. I figure probably around 150 feet tall. As for the brake run, the current one is over 100 feet long because the train is still traveling 67mph when train hits it. My redesign utilizes all that wasted speed. The train is probably closer to 40mph after it goes through all the new elements. But I understand what your saying. My original though was to leave the current brake run and have an Immelmman after the first drop that shoots the train out over the midway and the cobra roll wrapped around Sky Tower. It's still a work in progress.

I'm going old school here, Space Mountain pre 2005 track replacement and the Matterhorn Bobsleds both at at Disneyland. -
I'm guessing that Cedar Fair includes Knotts Market Place and the Hotel into their attendance figures for the Knotts property. There is no way that the Theme Park and Water Park combined drew 5.5 million people. Where does TEA Connect and the IAPAA get their figures? They use a combination of publicly available information and their sources. So in other words not very accurate. Got it. I'll trust CF's own numbers.

I agree. The place doesn't have much to compel me to go and hasn't since I was in middle school which is probably the last time I've gone. I imagine the target demo is still middle schoolers without much life experience and consider it cool because options are limited in SoCal (most water parks I the area don't have much going on for them) and because it's conveniently located. There are four water parks in the Los Angeles area: Redlands, Valencia, San Dimas, and Buena Park, plus one in Palm Springs and three in the San Diego area. That's eight parks for approximately 20 million people, and most are packed every day of the season. Water parks are a different market than amusement parks. There's not really a need to constantly offer new thrills. Getting wet and having fun doing so is essentially the point.

No, the 2 drop towers have brakes at the top to hold the car, while the launch towers don't. I'm sure if Cedar Point really wanted to, they could have S&S install brakes at the top of the tower, as well as brake fins on top of the carriages, and have all of the towers run combo mode. When you guys are saying combo you mean on one tower? How's that work? I thought they were set up for one or the other. Combo mode is where the tower first shoots you to the top of the tower, you "bounce" a little at the top of the tower, you are slowly pulled up to the top of the tower where you are held for a short period of time, then "shot" back down to the ground, where you bounce at the bottom of the tower till the ride comes to a stop. As can be seen in this video: It basically takes a shot tower, and combines it with a drop tower for one awesome ride!! Are those shock absorbers supposed to stop the carriage if the cables break?
