  1. Some of the smaller PTC or other old coasters like Comet at Hersheypark, Racer at Kennywood, etc. are the best kind of family rides in my opinion. I'm not sure if coasters around the same size like Phoenix count as "family coasters" because of the forces they pull, but they're still good for everyone. Other great family coasters are any of the Disney coasters, Turbulence at Adventureland, SooperDooperLooper and Verbolten.
  2. Oh, so we want to make an educational video about roller coaster physics and engineering...let's just tell everyone that there's no upstop wheels on coasters and that loops can never have hang-time or else everyone will die. That will make people smart!
  3. Six Flags Great Adventure (I'm not enough of a credit whore to ride Road Runner Railway): 12. Green Lantern 11. Harley Quinn Crazy Train 10. Dark Knight 9. Runaway Mine Train 8. Skull Mountain 7. Superman: Ultimate Flight 6. Kingda Ka (you know you have a great lineup when Kingda Ka doesn't get into the top 5!) 5. Bizarro 4. Joker 3. Batman: The Ride 2. Nitro 1. El Toro!
  4. Today I went from around 11:20 - 2:50. It was an amazing day to go. The park wasn't abandoned or anything and there were more people than I expected, but there were no lines for anything. Also, the operations were actually great! Even though the lines were short and some coasters weren't running all of their trains, the ride operators on all of the rides were moving really quickly. El Toro had the fastest operations, since Ryan was there, and there were Knoebels-speed dispatches! And the other crews greatly improved by telling everyone that there was one minute to get into their seats. Apparently this is going on at other Six Flags parks, and here it definitely works. I go to Great Adventure all the time, but it would be even more frequent if they keep this up. The decorations being put up are making me even more hyped for another year of Holiday in the Park. Here's the rides today: Kingda Ka x 3 Zumanjaro El Toro x 5 - Front, back, middle rows. It was definitely running a bit slowly in the cold morning, but even in that condition it's the best coaster in the world. El Diablo The Joker x 3 - Green twice, purple once. Finally, for once this coaster has no lines! I rode the purple side for the first time, and it's true that it doesn't have as many flips, but I thought it was just as fun. Instead of getting about 4 full flips and lots of hanging upside down like you get on the green side, I got 2 flips on the purple side. But because of the lack of flipping, on some of the bumps there was some decent airtime, which is a nice contrast to the hang-time in the rest of the coaster. I'm very glad that these are being cloned. Skull Mountain x 3 - Back row. Nitro x 3 - Back row. The view was incredible with the fall leaves! Batman: The Ride x 3 - Back row. I love this coaster more every time I ride it. Seriously, the forces are awesome. I think this is now my third favorite coaster in the park behind El Toro and Nitro.
  5. Actually its the track, if you find a good picture of the first drop. You can see that the radius in the transition from the drop to the flat is not perfect. There's a slight flat spot where you feel the bump. I have taken over 10 laps on LR and I have a good idea where that bump is by now...lol I was asking about the breakdowns, but yeah, jerkiness or potholes are always in the track.
  6. IMO, Lake Compounce crushes SFNE already. Lake Compunce is way more fun for me than any of the Six Flags parks I've been to, while SFNE ranks below SFA for me. It's nice to hear that the park could eventually get more attention from the general public.
  7. Drop in? Wow, that really stumps me. I can't imagine what that can possibly be...
  8. Wow, the setting is still good, even now. If it was still like it was back then, Grizzly could probably be an easy top 5 wooden coaster for me.
  9. ^Grizzly blew me away, it was way more forceful than I expected! There's a few great airtime hills, ridiculous laterals, and an awesome location. For me it's the best coaster there outside of I305 by far.
  10. I'm going here for my first visit for 2 days around late December. Does anyone know which rides break down the most often in the winter, and if Lightning Rod is closed on both days, (which I'm assuming will be the case) which area of the park would be the best to go to first?
  11. After many rides on the Knoebels Flyers and snapping and seeing many people snap, I've never seen anyone be told to stop or seen it slowed down in real life. I've heard many stories about it and have even seen some videos of people getting yelled at, but I never witnessed it once out of my 5 visits so far.
  12. This is easily one of the greatest coaster types ever designed. Every B&M invert I've been on is super forceful and snappy while also being some of the smoothest coasters I've experienced. I've been on 6 so I'll just rank all of them. 6. Batman - Ridiculous forces and a timeless layout. It's a little too short and small. 5. Talon - Your standard kick-ass B&M invert. There's plenty of strong inversions, but the floater hills, calm sections and helixes really make it stand out. 4. Great Bear - One of my first looping coasters. The interaction with other rides and Hershey's outstanding landscaping and river are a major selling point. The pacing is perfect. You start out with forceful inversions, then some fast but calm turns over the water, finishing with an intense corkscrew. 3. Raptor - The inversions are so forceful, the helix at the end is one of the best coaster moments ever, and once again, the contrast between calm and intense moments is great here. 2. Afterburn - Short but so relentless and over-the-top. When you immediately jump back in line over and over again even with a 20-minute line, you know it's a good coaster! 1. Alpengeist - a transcendent masterpiece, and one of my top 10 all-time coasters. The snappy and whipping inversions are great, and the forces are sustained for so long that it can hurt your legs sometimes. The massive size and speed adds to the intensity as well. And of course it has the beautiful theming that you'd expect from Busch Gardens.
  13. Anaconda at Kings Dominion is hated by tons of people on the internet, but I thought it was great! The drop is really fun, and the inversions are all very impressive. And it's obviously pretty jerky and has some rattling, but there's only one awkward transition where it actually hurts. Arrow coasters in general are incredibly unappreciated, especially by other young enthusiasts. Loch Ness Monster is super underrated and is really great, and Magnum XL 200 is a masterpiece. Carolina Cyclone is also a nice little ride and their mine trains are enjoyable, especially Runaway Mine Train at Great Adventure. Speaking of Runaway Mine Train, that's also a guilty pleasure that I often ride. There are usually mostly little kids riding it, but I like it for the scenic ride and the ejector hill! SFGAd has an obsession with small family coasters that have one insane airtime moment.
  14. I looked at pictures of Monster and Impulse, and the track type looks nearly identical, but track similarities happen with tons of different manufacturers. When you look at the trains on Monster, Impulse and this, they're all similar, but this new coaster has trains that definitely share more similarities with Monster and other recent infinity coasters.
  15. Oh god here we go again: Picture taken by KD Golden Years. Is Hurler becoming an RMC, being replaced entirely, SBNO for a while or is this a trick or fake? I'm really curious to see where this goes. Let's just hope that the following announcement regarding this doesn't end with a petition.
  16. ^^That's a perfect example since it's mostly little kids so it's kind of awkward, but it's a great ride. The Woodstock Express coasters are also major guilty pleasures for me because the second drop in the back row has hilariously random insane airtime out of nowhere!
  17. Apparently they reprofiled Cyclops in 2014. They took away the buzz bars and changed the big drop so that it wasn't as intense. And it's safe to assume they're going to let it get extremely rough. So there is no reason for me to go for myself, and honestly that seems like a good thing.
  18. ^^Which specific ones are better? Zoom Phloom, Shenandoah Lumber Company, Le Scoot and Thunder Creek Mountain are a few of the ones right behind Coal Cracker on my list.
  19. It's the best log flume ever. The airtime bump and skipping is great, the drop is a decent size, the flume is swift and bumps around, and the location is amazing with so many interactions and possible near-misses and wonderful landscaping and lake makes it perfect. I could praise it all day!
  20. Today I went to Adventureland and Luna Park. It was a short but great day, and I finally got my Cyclone credit! I'm going to just quickly go over Adventureland first. Adventureland is a tiny park, but it's very nice! The landscaping is impressive and the compact layout gives it a great atmosphere. The staff was also really good, except the Turbulance crew was a complete joke. We were there for 1.5 hours and we had a good time. Definitely a nice hidden gem if you're in the area. Frisbee - Fast spinning and a very long cycle. Turbulance x 3 - Best spinning coaster I've been on. The drop has a nice forceful whip to it, especially in the back. Then that over-banked turn is tons of fun. The helix is pretty forceful, and the twisty Intamin-type turns are exciting and causes a lot of spinning. Every park needs one of these. We need more Macks! Ghost House - Classic cheesy but really fun dark ride. The ride vehicles are so cool. Ladybug Coaster - Just some credit whoring. The landscaping and theme is actually pretty nice though, and the Zierer kiddie coasters aren't totally useless since there's some laterals. We were at Luna park for an hour, and I had leftover free ride tickets from Luna Park fest. The park has a good atmosphere as always, and it was cleaner and less crowded than my last visit. Even though this stop was also short, it was a fun time. Cyclone x 2 - This is a great ride! I'm really glad that I finally got on it. This is heaven for fans of weird old roller coasters. It's pretty smooth while still having a classic feel, the laterals out of this world, there's plenty of wonderful floater air, and the layout and head hoppers are fun. Definitely the star attraction here. It's in my top 15 wood coasters for sure. Thunderbolt - It was running a little rougher this time. But it's still a great little ride. I took some pictures while leaving Coney Island. A bunch of rides. Nearly every hill and drop has some well-sustained floater air. Not that intense, but so much fun! Into the brake run. I love this picture. Wheee! The drop is especially good near the back. The first turn is great! Deno's Wonder Wheel Park View of the Wonder Wheel from Luna Park. Luna 360 and Cyclone. Pretty beach!
  21. I used to prefer the front of Phoenix for the bonus airtime moments before the turns, but my recent back-row rides crushed the front on the same day so I guess it depends on my mood. When I want more moments of airtime, then front. If I want stronger but less frequent airtime, then back.
  22. I have a terrible story about the champion of all height requirement morons. Last year some of my friends brought me to a local family entertainment center that's about 10 minutes away from me called the Funplex (there's a spinning mouse, an SBF Visa Twist N' Swing 360 and some family rides, so it's actually pretty big for a FEC). We were getting on the outdoor Tilt-A-Whirl (there's an identical model that's in the indoor section too, yeah it's weird) and there was a mom behind us SCREAMING at the ride operator to let her daughter on the ride even though she was way too short. The operator told her that she was too short, and the mom kept yelling that she was 30 inches so she should be allowed. The operator explained that she had to be 46 inches, but the bitch wouldn't listen. She kept making the same statement for around 3 minutes about her daughter being 30 inches tall, and we were all boarded onto the ride and she was still complaining at that point.
