Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Absolutely agree here I love Dominator. For me its only "flaw" is a lack of a zero-G roll. It's definitely at least one of my favorites. Love the way it rips through those early elements. It's funny you put it that way. I don't think for her it's about intensity (her favorite ride is Maverick after all) but likely more about comfort and rideability (is that a word?). She can develop headaches from some rides and there's really no rhyme or reason as to what sets them off. I think the only reason I give BGW the edge is because every one of their rollercoasters is fantastic, and I wouldn't pass on any of them whenever I go there. I can't say that about many parks. -

Just want to add a voice to this conversation mess. I've attended this park more in my life than any other park. I think it has a great lineup and I'm stoked to have an RMC here. That being said, I haven't been out here much recently (mainly since I've been married) for a few reasons. Mainly, this has to do with my wife's preferences. She is certainly not a die-hard like many of us. She doesn't really care for the park that much and far prefers BGW because the parks are more experience for her. She also (me too probably, but it's close) likes the coaster collection better at BGW. She can't do I305 more than once or twice per visit. She doesn't like woodies that much. Dominator is her 2nd least favorite floorless (after Rougarou.) Anaconda is simply ok, but not worth a reride. She used to love Volcano, but says it has gotten a little shaky recently. I don't share these views with her aside from thinking BGW is the better park with a better lineup (but only slightly.) Which brings me to my point; we're comparing two parks that are within an hours' drive. Shouldn't this be a blessing instead of a curse? If you aren't that big of a fan of KD that's fine, you have another world class park down the road, don't complain, just hop in the car. -

We got confirmation that our annual company picnic will be held at KD on April 30th. That'll be my first park for the year. Man, I'm glad to be getting out of the off season. -

This is one of those attractions where the more "run down" it looks (to a certain degree, of course) the more the theme comes out on it. It's an abandoned mine after all. I, personally, love that look which is why I'm interested to see the "theming" around Mystic Timbers. If you want bad run-down, go to Lakemont or Conneaut Lake. -

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered somewhere in a Cedar Fair forum. Once you have bought parking, if you leave the lot, can you return with the same parking pass? We will be going to KI with my inlaws and my Mother-in-Law will need to return to a hotel to rest during the day due to medical reasons. -

It's entirely possible that I missed this, but I noticed these trains do not have the blue 1950's model pickup front end like the artwork. Was that not the original design or did they call an audible? -

It may be the overhead perspective, or an illusion, but it appears the entire structure for the first turn is essentially gone. Didn't see that coming. -

Here's where you lost me. Pizza is only pizza if it has the kitchen sink thrown onto it. Otherwise, it's simply glorified, expensive cheese bread. -

Clearly this is true. In RCT2, my peeps would stop and watch my construction, take pictures and get hyped up to ride it. -
No doubt we have some of the best quality rollercoasters of any state, especially the ratio of quality:mediocre rollercoasters would compete with the best of them. However, we do not have much in the way of quantity, especially when compared to the states you mentioned. We barely crack 20 coasters here, and that's including kiddies.

As with all new rides, it will take some time for some of the surrounding vegetation to grow in thicker. As such, I don't see this delivering night rides on the scale of the beast. On the Beast, once you leave the lift hill, you no longer feel like you're in a park. That being said, this does look at least fairly secluded. It's safe to say that these night rides will not disappoint, but I'd hold off final judgment for a few years to see just how thick the surroundings will grow in. After all, the Beast's forest has almost 40 years head start. -

There is no decent reason to ride Anaconda. Heresy! There's at least 2 reasons to ride, and they're both corkscrews! -

The only rough part to me is the middle of the "figure 8" where it dives down by the water. Lean hard into the restraint and stick your head forward. That's the only part of the ride I consider uncomfortable. But those corkscrews quickly make you forget about it! -

In looking at the POV ( like I said, I've only ridden WW) I think I can agree with this. Pretty much after the bunny hill after the tunnel on WW it's over, but Roar o saurus doesn't seem to let up. If it packs more of a punch than WW I'd definitely like to take a spin on it. Either way, I'm blown away by what Gravity Group is doing with these tiny woodies these days! -

I agree Roar-o-saurus is amazing. Just a bit better than Wooden Warrior since it's a longer ride. Actually, it's not longer. They're both 1240 ft long and 30 seconds from the top of the lift to brakes. If you think it's better, I won't argue as I have only ridden WW. -

I've gotta go with Wooden Warrior. That thing really surprised me. Delivered a wilder ride than many rides 2, 3, 4x its size. Honorable mention to Jack Rabbit. -

I didn't renew my season pass for this year, but seeing all of these pictures is really making me second guess that decision...
