I know it's probably too late at this point, but I was just poking around the app and happened to discover that they are actually selling single ride Quick Queues for InvadR now... ...at $25 a pop. For comparison's sake, all the other single ride Quick Queues are a pop. On an unrelated note, it looks like the next time we are going back, Kool and the Gang is going to be performing there as part of their summer concert series. I might end up dragging the kiddo along to this since he actually enjoys their music. Has anyone on here attended a concert at the park before? Any tips or tricks we should know about?

Wild Waves was open for you? I was down there last weekend and it was still closed. No great loss anyway. And yeah, I love Gale Force, easily my favorite of the triple-launched coasters I've been on so far (well... not counting YOLO, I guess, but that's a little different), but yeah that price is a little stifling.

Good looking out! That actually ended up being cheaper than the bring-a-friend discount. Thanks! -

Great report! Super pumped that you managed to get on Lightning Rod. I'm hoping the stars similarly align for when the kiddo and I are scheduled to get down there on August 14th. In regards to the restraints... are they any more restrictive than other RMCs? I'm currently hovering around the 240 lb mark, but I've managed to get on both Wicked Cyclone and Twisted Colossus in the past with no problems. That log flume looks interesting for sure! -
It was Father's Day weekend; on Saturday, the kiddo and I left early in the morning to drive up to Maine. We started off at Funtown Splashtown USA, bopped over to Palace Playland, then drove down to Canobie Lake Park, and ended the day at Fun World (okay okay, not really a park, but it had three rides so I'm counting it dammit). On Sunday, we drove to Six Flags New England, then down to Lake Compounce, then Quassy ever-so-briefly, and concluded the trip at Rye Playland. With the exception of SFNE, all the parks were new to us and it was a fun but kinda exhausting trip. I keep meaning to write up an indepth photo TR on the whole weekend but I am so backlogged at this point.

The real $64,000 question: so, have you had your identity stolen yet from the sketchy print-out-a-credit-card-on-the-spot-for-you guys? Kidding, of course. Now that I know that's a thing, I'd be tempted to do the same in exchange for free Express Passes. Sounds like you had a really fantastic time at the park. Wish I was getting back there soon (if I could figure out a way to get there before Dragon Challenge closes, I'd be there posthaste)... but I'm under strict orders from the wife to not visit any Universal parks unless I bring the whole damn family, so it's probably still gonna be a few years out. We don't trust the two year old on a flight.

Jesus, that's an adorable little park. I'm kind of kicking myself for not adding it into my New England/Northeast road trip last month, but as it stands that was already jam-packed (eight parks in the span of two days) -- I'll definitely have to make an appointment to stop in sometime! Maybe next year... if my daughter manages to keep up her growth as well as her brother, she should be over the 42" mark at some point during next summer. I really can't get over the theming. Those pandas! *squee*

Ohio State Fair accident
coneyislandchris replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I keep hear about some other mystical video also. Where is it? Find it hard to believe that so many people have supposedly seen this video, but it's nowhere online? Seems suspect. I haven't seen it and I think people are just confused at what they're looking at. There's a video someone took that's about 5ish minutes long of the aftermath and that's actually a thousand times worse than the 5 second clip of the accident itself. Where is that one at? The aftermath video can be found here, obviously not for the squeamish: https://youtube.com/watch?v=7HtPmoqB3cY -

I don't want to cast aspersions on the official line, but this was the report from the Columbus Dispatch as of Monday; Is it possible they cut corners in order to open the fair and the rides on time? Also, if that was in fact Amusements of America's ride, they had the same one operating a few weeks back at the Meadowlands State Fair in New Jersey. Yeah... I'll be skipping that next time they come around. -

Carowinds has been my favorite park I've visited so far this year, and I hope to get back there more frequently! Super jealous of that ERT Fury session too. -

I'm sure that, as an enthusiast, you'd also suggest that he ride all the roller coasters in the park and form his own opinion on them, which is cool sure but considering he said he has best case scenario about three hours to spend at the park at the end of a night, even you'd agree that Nighthawk is pretty easy of a skip in favor of Intimidator, Fury and Afterburn. Not just because it's a piece of crap, but also because it's a slow-moving, lumbering piece of crap. -
The last time I was at Universal was when I was but a kid, well before the Dragons were installed, even before Islands of Adventure was a thing. It's a shame I won't get a chance to visit there before they close them down permanently, as they seemed to be highly rated by fans of inverts. Interested to hear what the new attraction will be, though.

For what it's worth, they also sell individual one-time-use passes for most of their coasters and the big flat rides. When I was out there in September with the kid, we ended up having to pick them up for Racer because the line was backed up all the way out of the queue and onto the midway, and moving as fast as molasses. So if you end up running into anything like that, it might be worth it if need be. -

I firmly cast my vote in the "skip Nighthawk" column. The only thing it's got going for it is that it's over water. Other than that, who cares? I'm not about to call Intimidator a kiddy ride like Bill, but that might be because I got some of the legendary, talked-about-in-hushed-tones trimless rides on it during opening day this season. In that state, it had a verifiable ton of airtime (I'd be counting to myself "one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand, four-o--" over every hill. I can't imagine they're still running it trimless though, but if they are, enjoy! -
It's not Unlimited, it's Unlimited PLUS (some other things that are actually quite limited) I found out about this when I was there a few weeks back... asked the guy manning the gate if they were selling single-use Quick Queues (the line was estimated at about 45 minutes, and I had no problem dropping a $20 to avoid my kid and I standing in that). That's when he dropped the knowledge bomb of Quick Queue Unlimited Plus, I immediately said eh, eff that, and hung out in the line anyway. Thankfully it moved pretty quickly and ended up only being about 25 minutes after all.
-
Oh, it seems as if there's a bunch of different tiers of Quick Queue now. The one Bill's talking about is Quick Queue Unlimited. There's also Quick Queue Unlimited Plus, which apparently has all of the above for unlimited rides, plus a single skip-the-line one time each on Invadr, Tempesto, Mach Tower, and... Loch Ness Monster? Seriously? Okay, BGW, whatever floats your boat... Anyway, those ones are $75 apiece. It's your call, but I think you should probably be good if you just hop right over to Invadr at rope drop.

Gale Force at Playland Castaway Cove... finally! -
Awesome -- thanks for the info. I'll hold off until I get to the park to make that decision if that does end up being the case. I'm not terribly worried about Joker in any case as I've hit the ones at Great Adventure and New England already, I'm more interested in riding the unique ones that are there. Thanks again!

Quick question for you Great America regulars. My son and I are going to be making our first trip out to this park next month, and we don't have a ton of time to spend at the park unfortunately so I'll be investing in Flash Passes for us. Does the park currently have any weird restrictions in effect on those, like how Magic Mountain requires an extra fee to reserve an X2 ride and only gives you single reservations for Twisted Colossus and Full Throttle? I had heard that they did something like that for Goliath when a friend visited some years back, but don't currently see anything stating as much on their website.
