  1. It's nice hearing it described this way, rather than being called "rough". I mean, yeah, it's the most intense coaster I've ever been on - by a large margin - but that doesn't automatically equal rough! Like you said, the other two woodies there are more in the "rough" category. Voyage is just freaking "insane" like you said, and awesome! Glad you enjoyed it as well! Here's where you decide you don't like me though... I don't believe I've ever ridden their flume! Tell you what... I'll make a special point to do so next time I'm there! Again, I'm glad you enjoyed your time there, in spite of the poor weather at the end, and I look forward to your TR!
  2. Kings Island, on Tuesday! I'm taking my three oldest kids, for their first time at the park! We finally get to see what's in the shed!
  3. True, and it's still fugly I like how this guys thinks! It's management's way of ensuring they don't become too efficient. That way, people are still willing to buy the Flash Pass. I like how both of these guys think! (I'm in an affirming mood today I guess! )
  4. Wow! Didn't mean to stir up so much controversy by comparing Cedar Point and Holiday World! Both parks are great, and in my opinion, both parks are very different, so it's not really something I think to directly "compare" to each other. Both do what they do very well, in their targeted areas of focus, and I think other than forcing enthusiasts to choose which event to go to every year, there isn't really much overlap. CP doesn't really "do" woodies, which is what HW is all about, and even with CP Shores, I don't think their water park looks like it'll sniff HW's. CP is still my favorite amusement park to go to, as much as I love HW, so don't mistake me for a HW "fanboy", because I certainly am not. Nor am I a CP "fanboy. I'm just a regular man, with eyes, and a brain, who can see and appreciate each park for its individual strengths! SO, I went to Cedar Point yesterday! It was a pretty nice day at The Point, though there were a ton of school groups, and it was more crowded than when I typically go. However when I typically go is Tuesday-Thursday in May and early June before schools are out, and rarely on weekends, and almost never in the Summer. So my idea of "more crowded" and most people's are probably different. I think the longest line I waited in yesterday was maybe an hour, for both Maverick and Millennium Force! lol I only waited about a half hour for Valravn. Most of the other coasters were shorter waits, except for GateKeeper which was longer than a half-hour, because it was the first ride of the day. However, that wasn't my choice, as I wouldn't choose that if it was... I took my third born child, a son, and an 8 year old! He just barely was 52 inches, so he was constantly measured at all of the rides with that height restriction, but passed of course. He had a great time, and proved to be quite a coaster freak, and daring! After taking my older two kids separately last year, and having them both bail on TTD, he was bold, and rode it without any fear! In the end, that ended up being his favorite coaster as well! So props to him! He also kept me hopping... Whenever I wanted to slow things down, eat, and just relax, he kept pushing for more coasters. So, it looks like I've raised him right! I enjoyed Brew & BBQ for the second year in a row, and the Texas Brisket was particularly excellent! Since I was sharing the food with my son, I trended more to the food side, and less to the beer side this year, but that was fine. As it was, I still got plenty of both! I did decide that riding Maverick while stuffed with beer and BBQ may NOT be the best move, however... I had to take a ride time-out after that! While in Frontier Town, I definitely enjoyed checking out RMC Streak, though I can't say that the view was anything different than is already readily available in this thread, or elsewhere on the internet. So if you'll forgive me, I'll pass on uploading any of my pictures from my "meh" camera. Let me just say though, pictures do NOT do it justice... It is SO massive, and will really be taking the whole RMC concept to another level, whenever it's completed! Oh, and coasterbill, you will be happy to know that my son was INSISTENT on riding the Sky Ride, even though I suggested that the line was "too long"! So, we went ahead and did that, and he enjoyed the ride! (And it really wasn't that long of a wait!) I'm not sure if I'm going back to CP this year, but I'll be getting a Platinum Pass again next year, for RMC Streak's debut, and will be there a ton! The park looked nice though, and if I go again, will be sure to check out Melt! The new Resort Entrance looked great as well, and people were enjoying what appeared to be a soft open of Cedar Point Shores yesterday. I might actually go back there next year too, and check out those new drop slides! Bringing this full circle though, I have to say... They're still no Wildebeest or Mammoth!
  5. Good! It'll be gone LONG before I get there! (I know it would've been optional anyway, but it's nice to know operations won't be any slower due to it when I am there - and nice to know no spiders will leak out of neighboring headsets onto me while riding! )
  6. DILinator likes this as well, more importantly!
  7. Unfortunately, my phone's camera sucks BIG TIME! If I get any pictures I feel are worth sharing, I'll definitely do so, but I wouldn't hold your breath! I LOVE Holiday World! The Voyage is truly an experience on a roller coaster unlike any other I've been on - I've never ridden a bull, but I would imagine it's not too dissimilar to that, and I ride it in much the same fashion, one hand holding on, and one in the air! - and the rest of their coasters are all above average to great! The entire park's atmosphere is FANTASTIC, and if you're at all into water parks, theirs is THE BEST non-dedicated water park there is, bar-none! The water coasters alone are better than most roller coasters out there! As for the mythical tall thing, I totally believed you about it! I just have no desire to see that hideous beast with my own eyes! Thanks for the warning! I'll definitely look forward to checking out your Coasterstock report though!
  8. Come on! It's not going to get torn down! However, I wouldn't be surprised, if it receives some sort of modification, perhaps to the launched concept, in order to boost its reliability. I'm not sure if a transfer to a high speed cable lift system is at all plausible, but if I were Dollywood, that would be the first thing I'd be looking at at this point...
  9. Again, apologies to the CP thread, but dang, you're in for a treat going to Holiday World, and KK! The Voyage and Storm Chaser are Top 6 coasters for me, and many people swear by Lightning Run as well! (I like it, though I'm lower on it than a lot of enthusiasts.) If your wife really likes GateKeeper, she'll probably be a big fan of Thunderbird (I really like it, though not as much as GateKeeper, in a unpopular opinion)! And of course The Raven And Legend are, well, legendary! So, have a great time! I look forward to hearing about your experience! Particularly your opinion of The Voyage. It's a very divisive coaster, with many loving it, but some people hating it, and thinking it's terribly rough. At least you're going earlier in the season. Again, enjoy! Getting back on topic... I can't wait to see RMC Streak in person tomorrow for the first time! I've read that the pictures don't do it justice, and seeing it in person, it is simply massive in size and scope! I'm SO excited! I've already told my family I'll be living at CP next year, so they're prepared!
  10. Ahhh, got it! I take it you haven't been to KK yet? If not, enjoy it! Great little park, and Storm Chaser is truly AWESOME!!! I like Lightning Rod better, but not a lot better. SC was great! Hopefully the weather holds out for you to get some good rides in! Have you been to Holiday World before? The Voyage is a transformative experience! I'm actually finally making it to Kings Island myself on Tuesday, after having to delay my planned trip with all the older kids from April due to (what else) weather. I've still managed to avoid all Shed spoilers! Can't wait to just ride Mystic Timbers though, as I've heard it's really a great coaster! Enjoy your trip there! I will look forward to getting caught up on the KI thread after Tuesday! And in order to not get too far off topic, enjoy your time at CP as well!
  11. ^Awesome! Good to hear it's not too bad the Friday before a Holiday weekend, since I've tended to avoid them previously! Another added bonus of bumping it back a day: Brew and BBQ! (Though I'll be with my 8 year old, so I need to take that into consideration.) If you end up being there at all tomorrow, like later in the day, PM me, and maybe we can say hi and ride a coaster, or something!
  12. Agreed! Both provide their own particular kind of awesome ride experience, especially on Storm Chaser!
  13. Briefly back on the topic of CP and weather, I made the last minute decision, based on weather, to delay my trip to CP today until tomorrow, as showers and 80% chance of precipitation didn't seem like a great chance to take, for making the three hour trip down. The forecast for today changed a number of times over the past week though, which just goes to show the point we've been making about The Point... It's such a crap-shoot when it comes to weather, you've just got to be as flexible as possible, and be ready for rain, regardless. It won't shock me if we go tomorrow, and in spite of the better forecast, still have to contend with some poor weather. Such is CP in the Springtime. But at the least the crowds typically aren't so bad! (Though I'm not crazy about going the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, honestly...) If anybody is there today, let me know how it ended up being.
  14. I mean cinnamon bread is excellent and all, but if I had the choice between a free loaf and say 5 back to back rides on Lightning Rod, I'd choose Lightning Rod 100% of the time. Totally agree with you here! In fact, I'll see your 5 back to back rides, and raise you only 3 - one front, one back, and one at night!
  15. I was fortunate enough to get to ride LR (5 times in fact!) my first and only time at Dollywood last fall, so it was not an issue. However, I won't lie... I would have been pretty upset and frustrated had I not been able to get on it, and I would have not felt unjustified in those feelings. But then again, that's how I feel at any new amusement park I go to. I always hope to get on everything I want to, and if I don't, it's a bummer. I don't think that's an unreasonable feeling to have, either... You go to an amusement park, it's reasonable to expect that their coasters and rides should all be running. Now, the reality is, that's not always the case, which is why I consider myself fortunate to have gotten on LR. And to coasterbill's point, it's not like I wouldn't have still enjoyed the other things Dollywood had to offer. But I still would have been bummed, overall, leaving there without LR under my belt. That's just an honest truth, and frankly, I think a natural human reaction... So I don't personally fault anybody for being upset about LR's downtime, or going there, and being unable to ride. And as others have said, I'm pretty sure nobody is more upset about LR's downtime than Dollywood themselves!
  16. They have. We bitched and moaned about how awful Mean Streak was, and look at the thing. I appreciate what you're trying to do here Boldy! Those pics of RMC Streak were glorious, and yes, CP has shown us they truly do care with how amazing this is going to be!
  17. Wow... well enjoy your ride on Joker because it's all downhill from there. There's a chance he loves X2. Or he could hate it. There's really no in between on that ride. I must be the exception to the rule, then, because I neither love the ride, nor hate it. It's just "ok" in my book. I mean, I'd probably rank it in the bottom of my Top 5 at SFMM based on the last time I went there (Pre TC and YOLO), and there were moments on it I enjoyed it. But then again, there were moments on it where I was like... At least it's light years better than the dumpster fire that is Green Lantern!
  18. Remember last year, the infamous "water spout picture" (which I took, incidentally )? Well, that day was a perfect example of the crazy weather possible there at CP. Even though there was literally a water spout not far from CP, and roiling storm clouds over Lake Erie, there was no rain over the park, and I don't think anything shut down, even for high winds, the whole day. The weather is simply that hit or miss when it comes to Cedar Point, and the peninsula. Like I said before, you just go, and hope it all works out for you to have a full day of goodness! And more often than not, it does...
  19. I'm with you though. I thought RIddler looked great before... Now, not so much, and it doesn't really make sense with the character. I mean, it's not a BIG deal, but it's really odd, and another strange color combo decision by an amusement park (shockingly, NOT CF this time! lol)
  20. Cedar Point, this upcoming Thursday the 25th!
  21. ^Now THAT, is Haunt news that actually excites me - a guy who isn't really into Haunt related things in general! Loved the book, love the movie, and would love to go through a maze based off of it!
  22. To be fair, a big part of this site is trip planning/expectations/tips etc it's always been a big help to me and ya know, it's important to have an idea of weather to be expected. That could potentially ruin a trip. Also not the be that guy but is a new comment every day about the next piece of lumber added or the next 1/10th of a turn installed that critical? I love coaster construction but not much changes every day...hate to say but while the pics are great they all look kinda the same to me. I'll not really check too actively for a few weeks and see progress then. tl;dr not much is happening with Mean Streak on a day to day basis what's to be excited about right now? Yeah, but to be even more fair, to sum up talking about weather at CP you can just say: "The weather at CP changes rapidly, and is always pretty hard to predict. Just go, hope for the best, and enjoy what you can!", and then give that as a stock answer, and move on from the conversation. Seriously... Trying to predict the weather at CP is worse than trying to predict weather in Michigan, which is nearly impossible. I'm going to CP on the 25th. Right now it's calling for rain showers in the AM. Until that morning, the forecast doesn't really matter. And even then, it matters very little... As for RMC Streak, I'm all for as much talk about this amazing creation as possible!
  23. ^That's actually an interesting idea to try! I'll have to try that next time... If there ever is a next time!
  24. THIS is SO massively true!!! I think hearing those kind of enthusiasts talk about MF so derisively is what made me realize that there was a real danger in losing sight of reality when giving ones self fully to "becoming a roller coaster enthusiast", and so I decided not to ever do so myself! If I ever say "Millennium Force-less", it's definitely time to draw up commitment papers, because saying saying water is dry and humans can fly by flapping their arms isn't far behind! MF was my #1 for 15 years, until I rode Fury! You're definitely in for a treat riding that one! LR as well, though that settled in at #5 for me. It could be #1 though. It's awesome too!
  25. I too love Banshee, and it's my #1 Invert, over the likes of Alpengeiest and Montu! Afterburn, Raptor, and the Batman clones all trail behind those three. I want my Invert to do more than just invert, and be intense. That's why the Batmen, and Raptor rate so "low" to me. That's also why I enjoy Great Bear, and Silver Bullet more than most. Take me somewhere, and do something unique! That's what I want from my B&M Invert! Now how did we get talking about those in an RMC Raptor thread???
