  1. Does it have to have any video in it? I have a photo montage video I made of a park trip, Kind of a spoof of the pbs documentary format. Also does it strictly have to be a park video? I have a whole bunch of footage of the county fair I was thinking about editing together.
  2. I know a guy who was a part of that high school class, and was there at the incident. Apparently the yearly high school's water park visit usually was at raging waters in San Jose, where they had tried this stunt many times before without consequence. I think that is why the students disregarded the warnings at Waterworld, not realizing that Waterworld's slides were designed by a different company. Still it was stupid of them to try it in the first place.
  3. Door hinge? I prefer deep blue.
  4. Rumor has it that even though blu-ray is showing better market sales, the reason why Paramount went with hd-dvd was because Microsoft payed them to. And the reason why Microsoft is doing this is not because they want to "save" HD-DVD but because they want to cause so much consumer confusion that high definition formats will not catch on and instead everyone will move online and download hi def films off of online stores, similar to the download rental system on xbox live.
  5. Planet earth dvd box set A really nice pair of slippers (finally I have some slippers that have arch support!) Spring 2008 tuition PAYED (best gift ever)
  6. This guy is doing some amazing things with the Wii system: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/ I really hope video game makers are taking note, especially the head tracking stuff.
  7. From: http://www.paulkidby.com/news/index.html I debated about whether posting this or not, having no idea how many Terry Pratchett readers there are on the boards. It really saddens me, it seems like every comedic author I've ever "discovered" dies or gets ill within a couple of years of me reading their books, First Douglas Adams and now Terry Pratchett. I only hope that the Alzheimer's progression can be slowed. I know how disheartening it can be. Watching my grandfather die of this disease slowly over a period of twenty years was hard. My Heart goes out to his family and loved ones.
  8. Of the top 25 I've only been on eight. Here is how I personally would rank those eight. 1. Balder Liseberg 2. Kentucky Rumbler Beech Bend 3. The Voyage Holiday World 4. Cornball Express Indiana Beach 5. Raven Holiday World 6. Avalanche Timber Falls 7. Hades Mount Olympus 8. Megafobia Oakwood Now even though Elissa would hate me for saying this, Balder isn't my number one woodie, it's number three on my list. My two favorite woodies are not in the top 25. #1 is Cyclops at Mt. Olympus #2 is Thundercoaster at TusenFryd The only two woodies that managed to scared the crap out of me when I rode, also the only two woodies I would not dare keeping my hands up on. Even though I think Thundercoaster is more terrifying than Cyclops, it is rated below Cyclops because the only time I ever rode Thundercoaster was in the rain. From what people have told me Thundercoaster only turns into an insane ride when the track is wet while Cyclops's infamous drop is always batsh!t insane regardless of weather.
  9. Everyone is asking for more realisim. How about some uniqueness. Have some unlockable modes similar to the Peep bowling videos on youtube, where the whole idea is kind of like the game burnout. You are given a set amount of track pieces to build a coaster amongst a small prearranged park. The purpose is to build and then crash the train to cause a maximum amount of mayhem. This mode would work better in a cartoony environment with all the little peeps bouncing around. Then you could also take a cue from this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSF2xroIrW8 and create a rollercoaster golf mode, you are given a set amount of money and a small parcel of land on which to build, there is a hole off in the distance and the idea is to try to get the most train cars as you can to land in that hole. On a more serious side there must be some reason that RCT4 has not been announced. Anybody know anything about why? or is it just because Atari's financial problems?
  10. I actually bought my first PS3 game today. I've had the system for well over 6 months (found it on sale at costco) and up until now have only really used it to to play Blu-ray movies and PS2 games. I vowed when I got it to never pay over $50 for a game, and today I found a pristine used copy of the new Ratchet & Clank for $40. The one other game I'm interested in for the system is Uncharted, and I think I'll wait 'til after Christmas to buy used copy. So far the only Next Gen game I have paid the full price for is The Orange Box for the 360. 5 games in one and well worth the price.
  11. Here are a few interesting articles on nutrition and loosing weight from an exercise website I frequent: Nutrition for Newbies #1 Nutrition for Newbies #2 It talks about the science of eating, which I have always found interesting. And just to warn you they tend to pimp their protein shakes and products, but still give good advice in the other areas.
  12. I just want to say that all of you complaining about CGA not putting anything in place of the Triple Wheel are wrong. Invertigo is in the exact spot the Triple Wheel used to be.
  13. While the PS3 is a really decent blu-ray player, I've heard the xbox add on HD-DVD player is pretty poor quality. Though the article that said that was before the Xbox 360 got a HDMI out so the picture quality might very have improved since then.
  14. I hope this proves to be successful for the park, because if it does they might just start to reinvest in their existing rides, such as new trains for revolution (a long shot I know).
  15. I've only got stuck on a ride twice. Once on Splash Mountain right on the lift hill before the final drop. It was cool having to walk through the back areas of the entire structure to get to the exit, also got a free ride pass (this was before fast passes) so it was all fine. Then this past summer on the TPR Midwest Trip we got stuck on Face/Off at KI. The latch that was supposed to catch the train an lower it back into the station, didn't catch. So we rolled back down the spike and nearly got stuck in the cobra roll.
  16. Looking at the mockup you made, I think it might work. Though possibly a mirrored image of Renegade's layout would fit in that area better. By the way, Any announcement on where in the park will the topspin be built? If it really is going to have fire effects I'm thinking they'll team it up with Survivor.
  17. I wonder why they chose to add a Wooden Coaster? Admittedly California needs all the wooden coasters it can get but, Wooden coasters are not that economical here. They cost more than steel to maintain and cost about twice as much to build here than in other states to make them earthquake safe. Oh and does anyone else find it funny that at a 2 min ride time this will be the longest coaster in the park? (the Grizzly doesn't count as it's ride time is long due to it's slowness, not it's track length.)
  18. So apparently The fire just missed my sister's house by two blocks. She's thinking about coming up here, to the bay area, for a as long as the fires last because she is really having trouble breathing.
  19. I just got a call from my sister. She was evacuated early this morning and just found out a couple of minutes ago off of a news site that a part of her subdivision is on fire. I'm glad she got out and my mom made sure that when my sister bought her house that it was insured for wildfires, but still how bad is it that the her house will probably burn down only month after she got married. Her husband is up in LA right now in the hospital (not fire related), and to learn that you have no house, after getting out of surgery would really be a rude awakening.
  20. I hope that DCA will also have it's layout changed a little bit. I've alway found the park a little tiring to get around. Like I never understood the point of just letting the Hollywood back lot part just dead end into the Aladdin theater. I would like just some sort of connection between Paradise Pier and where the Tower of terror is, so I don't have to walk all the way back down the Hollywood back lot street to exit that section of the park.
  21. I doubt they would get much out of it. Grizzly isn't worth moving, Top Gun and (to a lesser degree) Vortex are terrain coasters. Demon Is so old that it would probably only be considered a new ride at MiA. Really the only coasters they have that could be moved easily are Invertigo, Psycho Mouse and the kiddie coasters. And While Great America has a good selection of flat rides none of them except survivor, the double decker carousel (and maybe the fliers) would bring anything really new to the other parks in the CF chain. Just my two cents. Correct me if you think I'm wrong.
  22. Best laugh I've had all day. Though I'm no engineer, i do think there are many possibilities for wooden coaster to expand. Probably one of the best wooden coasters that I have been on is also probably one of the most unique in design, the lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain. Who ever said going bigger and faster is the future of coaster design?
  23. I'm sure you could make some sort Jumping (with no supports) ride. Maybe some sort of halfpipe with a jump for a Zorb.
  24. While I do think this merits it's own topic, we've already been discussing this in the topic about Great America's 2008 addition: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38886&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120
