Glad to hear you're doing okay. The men in my family has a history of heart attacks. So three years ago when I found myself weighting in at 260lbs at age 22 I took action and have now reached my 190lb goal. Though losing the weight and changing my habits wasn't easy I do feel a lot better than I did even though at the time I was not yet at risk. I hope you are able to reach your goals, it's hard work but the quality of your life (more energy, fewer colds) will improve if you stick to it.

A website recently posted a 125 page transcript found of George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Laurence Kasdan's story conference in which they created the character of Indiana Jones and outlined the story of Raiders of the lost ark. As an aspiring filmmaker it is a real education in learning how professionals go about creating a legendary film character and classic story. This website links to the PDF of the transcript, but also points out some interesting excerpts for those not wanting to read through the whole thing. http://mysterymanonfilm.blogspot.com/2009/03/raiders-story-conference.html

I have all three systems and I really only use my PS3 for movies and any games that are exclusive to the system. (Ratchet and Clank, Little Big Planet) My XBox 360 is my main choice when it comes to playing games online such as Left 4 Dead. My Wii I find useful for short video game fixes such as Wii Fit and an incredible backlog of classic console titles I want to relive. I just recently played through Super Mario RPG, and am now exploring Super Metroid after becoming addicted to it's 2d sequels Nintendo makes for their portable systems. To tell the truth I wouldn't have bought a PS3 if it wasn't for Blu-Ray movies and it's complete backward compatibility, (a feature the more recent consoles now no longer have.) I was lucky enough to find a completely backward compatible system at costco just when Sony was phasing them out.

Well if you want to talk about racial stereotypes... Pic take by me when on vacation at the Cannes Film festival in May of 2007. When I first saw this I thought "At least it isn't a Chinese restaurant..."

Why do you think execution should be allowed?
darklingscribe replied to Adriel's topic in Random, Random, Random
Execution is a tough topic to discuss. In a few cases I do believe it is the right thing to do. To the best of my knowledge the only crimes that can bring the death penalty are First Degree Murder and Treason. Treason being ranked as the worst crime on the books it is possible to commit. Execution for treason is rare because of all the mixed feelings surrounding the execution of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg on June 19th 1953. Though not technically treason they were charged with conspiracy to commit espionage during the communist scare of the early 50s. For First Degree Murder I do believe that execution is sometimes warranted. If the convicted criminal shows no sign or willingness of reform and poses a life threatening danger even to his fellow inmates and guards. Where this gets mired in confusion is the question of is such a person of sound mind? -
I'm the last person you'd want voice advice from, but even with my inexperienced ears I can tell you that those who can give you good advice on this site need you to record something in a deadened space. The reverb in your video coming from your voice bouncing off of all the hard surfaces, (the walls, the floors, and the ceiling) can distort how your voice sounds in the microphone. Try recording in a room designed for music, if you don't have access to such a space find a smaller room and try to cover ever hard surface with thick blankets or clothing. Also, if you don't already, play back your sound files once you've recorded them and watch the peak meter. Anything in the red might be distorted.

TPR TV or CoasterTube
darklingscribe replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
TPR TV: Spread the fun on the internet's only coastertube. TPR TV: Make, share and play videos on coastertube. TPR TV: Travel the world on our Coastertube. My creative energy has been spent. I don't know, Coastertube is a hard phrase to tailor a sentence to. It is easier to create a descriptive sentence if you just omit it: TPR TV: Theme park videos from around the world. -
Track Spottings!

Having not payed attention to the Harry Potter plans of Islands of Adventure I have no idea if they are planning to add a new coaster. That said my initial reaction was Island of Adventure as they seem to be really happy with the results B&M gives them. -
There are also Business Costcos, one is not too far away from my house. IF you think the portions are huge at a normal Costco just wait till you see the restaurant supply section of a business Costco. 20 frozen lobster tails, 50 packs of cola, 5 gallon bags of frozen soup. I've also heard that Costco has furniture and housewares stores as well.

This video is epic, full of humor, and uses classical music to creat a wonderful sense of scale. It is also NSFW in the best possible way. http://www.m2film.dk/fleggaard/index.php?film=2 I don't know what they are selling but I'll buy 10. I almost wanted to create a new thread because this video is so full of win.

I've never played a game which so completely put me in the center of a B Horror zombie movie. This is also the first game which has officially gotten me to pony up the cash for a Xbox live gold membership. Being sad and pathetic and having no one on my friends list as of yet I thought I'd ask here if anyone wanted to plow through the legions of the undead a couple hours a week. My gamertag is Darkling Scribe. Post if you are interested.

Vote for Theme Park Review!

I voted. -
A used Tamron AF 17-35mm lens for nikon mount cameras. $250 Needed for class as I am useless shooting in confined situations without a wide lens. *sigh* This senior thesis class has made me poor.

Sounds dangerous. I heard of such contests done with water where a person dies of water poisoning (the cells in your stomach absorb as much water as they can and then burst). I'd do research before trying this.

I wish I could join you Big Mike. Looks like you'll be hitting most of the Northern California parks. Judging by your list I assume you have already gotten the credits at Great America and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. (Though I feel compelled to point out that The Sea Serpent at the boardwalk opened in 2000, the same year as Medusa at SFDK, so if you haven't been to the Bay Area after 1999 you'll be missing a credit.) Also you'll really have to hurry to make it from Pixieland to Gilroy Gardens in an hour and a half, rush hour shouldn't be that much of a problem on a weekend but the freeways around here are always in a state of impending traffic jam. After that I'd recommend taking the Pacheco Pass (rt 152) over to Interstate 5 down to Southern California. That way only takes about 6 hours to get to LA. If you're using 101 (which I tried to do recently) expect it to take about 9 hours from Gilroy.

Normally I'd agree a silly symphony swing is not that great of an addition but it does keep with the idea of keeping the boardwalk theme. Right now I'm taking a history of Animation class which has influenced my opinion on the theme. A closer look at the chairswings will reveal that it is not themed to Disney's silly symphony films in general, but is themed to just one, Band Concert. Band Concert is the first Disney film in which "the gang" Mickey, Donald, and Goofy appeared together. Besides being a significant film in the history of Disney cartoons it also ends on a note that makes it particularly suited to the Spinning of the chairswings. At the end of the short a tornado appears and sucks up the entire concert while all the characters play on regardless.

Euro Fighter vs Dive Coaster
darklingscribe replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been on both, though not the newer B&M Dive machines. Euro fighters can really give you a few sharp whacks in the head during their quick transitions but offer intense airtime and strong Gs. Oblivion is fun for what it does but is not nearly as exciting as the euro fighters I've been on (typhoon and Speed) -

Duck it! -
Lets see. 415 songs, 184 Audiobook files (I say files because quite often one audiobook is cut up into several files for easier downloading), 72 movies (though about half are short films), 236 TV Show episodes, and 5 games. All in all 56.9 days of stuff.

I'm glad you had fun, as it is for charity, But I can't help but think: "That give a whole new meaning to the mile high club." when I read the thread's title.

The InBev/Busch Discussion Thread
darklingscribe replied to milst1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even PETA should know that setting free any animal born and raised in captivity is basically a death sentence for that animal. Sea World's animals have no experience in hunting for their own food and will starve if left to fend for themselves (but there are always exceptions to the rule, animals that run primarily on instinct, like sharks, would probably be ok). -
The Official "TPR Europe Trip 2008" Thread!
darklingscribe replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
you plan great trips Robb and Elissa. I want to say that every day was a highlight, but the whole point of the term highlight mean something that stands out above the norm and a normal day on one of these trips is beyond awesome. People ask me which one of the trips I've been on was my favorite and I can't give them a straight answer. They've all been awesome and each one has proven to be full of different experiences.
