Most disturbing movie you've ever seen?
darklingscribe replied to Sasquatch's topic in Random, Random, Random
^ The scene when the cartoon shoe gets dipped scarred me for life when I saw that move in the theater at the age of four. -
Getting warmer. Since it appears to be harder to guess than I thought, I'll just settle for what the object is. I don't need the model.
-
Sure I'll give it a shot since davethefish did not post something. I'll post something easy. Not only do I want what it is, I want the name of the model.

^It's easier than you think. All you need is a projector, some pencils to outline your image, and finally some paint.

Most disturbing movie you've ever seen?
darklingscribe replied to Sasquatch's topic in Random, Random, Random
If you can, try to seek out a copy of Titicut Follies a truly disturbing 1967 documentary about the conditions of a Massachusetts Hospital for the criminally insane. It's all true and it was banned in the US till 1991 because the Massachusetts filed an injunction to keep it from being shown. They claimed it violated the patients' rights even though the director got the permissions of all the patients and/or their guardian. The director said they wanted it banned to avoid the public outcry against the facilities and the state boards that ran them. Once seen it isn't hard to see who was telling the truth. -
Machete is pure awesome. The less you know the better, because half the fun is in the cameos. Lindsay Lohan's intro is GOLD and the whole movie is a hard R rating and not afraid to show it.

Amazing water slides
darklingscribe replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maybe the people in this thread can answer a question I've long wondered. What is the world's longest water slide? I can't seem to find a page giving a definitive answer. A google search seems to be turing up a variety of answers such as this slide in Austria at 662ft (202m) but I'm not sure that is right. So far the only consensus I can find is that Holiday World's Wildebeest is the world's Longest Water Coaster at 1,710ft (521m) and the world's tallest slide is Insano, a 134ft (41m) high slide in Brazil. -
The "Say Something Random" Thread

I just noticed that my donkey moniker under my handle reads Jason X verses the Robot Space Donkey and can't help but think that I'd pay good money to see that. -
I've heard that ginger pills is a great preventative against motion sickness for some. Personally, I've always found the best preventative is to make sure I'm well hydrated and eat often. I'm not advocating riding with a full stomach, I just find that if my energy levels are up I can handle any ride.

^ Ahh, good times. Sad to hear the Crystal Maze is on it's way out. If my notorious memory is right, the Crystal Maze is a part of a bowling/arcade place down the road from the park, so I'd assume that whatever new attraction they'd install to replace it would be along the lines of indoor minigolf or laser tag. Did they offer any hints?

Discussion: B&M and their longevity
darklingscribe replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know, Vortex has a certain charm to it. What it really needs is perhaps some new trains. I know B&M "heartlines" their coasters to run a specific type of train, but I still wonder if it's possible to safely run a sit-down train on a stand-up track? -

I'm sorry for their loss. News like this is always hard, even more so when it happens so suddenly. I send my heartfelt condolences to the Koch family and friends. -

Really fascinating trip report. I never really knew how much say Rowling had over this, but it makes sense since it is her intellectual property. I wonder why she dislikes cola so much? Everything in the honeydukes candy shop is just as bad for you. -
Efteling Discussion Thread

Wow, that's something. I can only imagine what the ride system will be like. Someday I fervently wish I can make my way back there to experience this park again. Efteling was one of the highlights of the 2008 Europe trip. -
I'm up for a meeting some time tomorrow. I am going to arrive around 12 to 1 because I don't want to deal with LA morning rush hour. <> I just recently checked AAA's website for a friend and it appears their online ticketing system is down. If it is not fixed soon, people who have not yet bought their tickets might be SOL because I don't think you can buy this at the gate.

It is hard to stop yourself from reflexively blinking when you look at this photo. <> On second thought, I'm switching the photo to a link, so those of you that are squeamish about bees don't have to see it.

The trains of Python at Efteling are probably the coolest looking trains I've seen. http://www.rcdb.com/897.htm?p=13908 The worst trains I've experienced are on the Ultimate at Lightwater Valley: http://www.rcdb.com/779.htm?p=5051 If you closely at those lap bars you'll realize that there is no way to keep your knees from slamming into it during the more intense parts for the ride. Though, I heard that before the lap bars they had OTSH restraints which pretty much made some people .

Great post dannerman. I never knew ride systems could very greatly even when the rides comes from the same manufacturer.
