  1. I could almost see a park using this article as the next advertising gimmick. Something like "Forces man was not meant to experience! Free earplugs with every ride!"
  2. It really looks like their building it to last. I'll be interested in seeing how much maintenance this new wood/steel hybrid track requires because, if the ride is good and the general repair bill is less than a normal wooden coaster, this type of retrofitting might become a trend.
  3. I went to my local AAA and they directed me to http://www.aaa.com/sixflags to buy the tickets. You first have to register your AAA card and create a profile before doing this, else you'll just be redirected to their login page. After that, click on purchase tickets. Even though the special event is not mentioned on the first page, continue through and it will be listed as one of the ticket choices. Hope that helps everyone.
  4. If it was GCI, I wonder why their solution was deemed unsatisfactory. My guess would be the park doesn't want to invest in new trains so soon after replacing the premier ones and that was a part of the GCI proposal.
  5. Count me in. I was sad that I couldn't attend WCB because I was in the middle of a move, but this looks to be the next best thing.
  6. I'm very sorry to hear about your dad Big Mike. I know how it feels, having gone though the same thing in 2004, and wish you and your family well. My condolences.
  7. I'm glad to hear that no one was hurt. I think there might be some truth to the statement that the alarm might have been turned off. I've been to a few parties that had fog machines which have set off the Smoke detectors, so I can verify that it does happen. The idea that someone might have turned off the alarm for the party is not entirely unfounded.
  8. Filled it out and really hope they get enough support to keep their rides.
  9. The first thing I noticed when perusing the new forums is that the thread locked symbol is kind of hard to see. The Icon that the padlock is placed in front of overwhelms it. Is it possible to keep it the way it is now, where the Padlock replaces the icon?
  10. I love the design. I really does seem to channel the spirit of fun of this site while also maintaining a clean (not too busy) look. I wish my season passes looked as good.
  11. 1. What are your initial thoughts? Sounds like a great idea after I read the thread. 2. Can you think of anything else we could be offering? How about more choices on TPR Events such as the West Coast Bash. Nothing big, just maybe something like allowing premium members to choose which time they would like to have lunch and which time would they prefer their backstage tour to be. 3. Is this something that interests you? Yes, but probably not this upcoming year because I just won't have the time to enjoy many of the perks. 4. Why would you NOT be interested in this? Can't think of a solid reason other than no money and no time. 5. Any additional feedback you can give us based on the information you see here. Yes, could you clarify the "additional perks on a TPR Trip." I could see these perks becoming an area of contention on trips that have premium and non premium members.
  12. It's the flux capacitor off of the train in Back to the Future III?
  13. Lets see, A sweater, new slippers, a wet/dry car vac, and a nice leather coat.
  14. Sound like you've just had bad luck with the brand. If you feel like you want extended trial with a camcorder try to get it from Costco. They'll let you return electronics you don't like within the first 90 days and won't charge a re-boxing fee. It's convenient and has allowed me to decide on a couple of my bigger purchases. I've even used it to exchange an iPod, which I suspected was a lemon (the hard drive made ominous sounds), for one that has been lasting me a couple of years. The downside is that once you are past the 90 day period you can only rely on the manufacturer's warranty and whatever product protection American Express can give you.
  15. Were those issues to do with moving parts? I have a little Sony Mini DV Camcorder I bought years ago that broke down on me several times simply because little pieces of dirt had got in and jammed the gears that play the tape. Other than that it has been a great work horse. I think the new Sony cameras that record onto a solid state drive would be even better in reliability because of the lack of moving parts.
  16. I bought a Canon Vixia a year an a half ago but returned it because Canon practically made it so you'd have to buy the some $100+ accessories in order to get usable video. The lens was so narrow that any hand-held footage was too shaky to use. The wide-angle conversion lens they sold for it was $160 dollars. Canon had purposely made the threading around the lens a propitiatory size (something like 47 1/2 mm) so you had no choice but to go with their own accessories.
  17. Despite the arguments against legalizing pot because of the accidents the high people might cause, I think it's legalization is still a good idea. Making pot legal would really hurt the illegal drug trafficking trade which I think would prevent more deaths than would be created by those under the influence. Think of how many people would switch to marijuana from their current drug of choice because it offers a cheaper high. Also, the taxes that could be levied on this new crop would be a great help to states hit hard by the recession.
  18. It probably will if the winter isn't too harsh. I'm happy to see this wonderful little park get another great coaster and if they keep it up at this pace they will soon become a wonderful big park. All they would need in one or two more coasters and a couple of flats.
  19. A website I visit occasionally for advice on workouts and diet had a recent Q&A with a nutrition specialist and he talked about not only this but out there has been studies by the big food corporations to find a magical formula that would make their products more addictive. Here is the section of the article: (expletives removed) http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance_nutrition/dirty_nutrition_vol_2
  20. Does it have something to do with firearms? A weird looking safety catch?
  21. Oh what the hell, though I'm no Acer, here is the turkey gravy recipe I do every holiday. After you baked your turkey, pour off all the drippings into a container and store it in your freezer until the fat on top starts to harden. Take 4 tablespoons of that turkey fat and mix it with 6 tablespoons of flour. Place the mixture in a nonstick pan and stir with a wooden spoon or spatula on high heat. This is the Roux that you will use to thicken the gravy. Stir constantly so it doesn't burn. First the mixture will look like a liquid and then it will clump up and look like a dough. Just keep stirring and eventually it will break back down into a liquid again. At this point it is nearly done, just wait till it begins to smell like toast and then pull it off the heat. Skim the rest of the fat off the turkey drippings and place the liquid in a small pot over medium heat. Stirring with a whisk, add the roux tablespoon by tablespoon to the drippings (be careful, the roux will roughly be the temperature of HOT LAVA). Make sure each tablespoon is fully incorporated into the mixture before adding the next one. Go slowly because you don't want to over thicken it. Once the pot is boiling and it is at the thickness you like, stop adding the roux. Add salt and pepper to taste and you are done. Edit- If you do over-thicken it, add some chicken broth to thin it.
  22. Hmm... how to describe it without giving anything away. Winjas is a dueling indoor spinning coaster at Phantasia land in Germany. The coaster has surprise elements which cannot be seen by simply watching it. You have to ride it to find out what they are. To tell anyone what it does is to ruin the surprises of one of the best spinning coasters in the world. You could probably find out what it does doing a google search, but everyone on the Theme Park Review Boards who has experienced Winjas likes to keep its surprise elements a secret for those who have yet to ride it.
  23. There is a video of a ride that sounds like the one you're describing on Coastertube: http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=Linnanmaki_7 Skip ahead to the 1:35 mark.
  24. I think since the new tiger show stadium was their addition for 2009 they wanted to keep it open. Anyway the stadium is right next to Boomerang and not right in the back of the park where it used to be, so it is not that difficult to close the Land section and keep the stadium open.
  25. I don't see how it would be worse that any other ride that keeps you upside down for a short period of time. The hammerhead flat ride and rock-o-plane comes to mind.
