I’m planning a road trip that includes the following stops: Six Flags Over Texas Sunday and Monday, June 14 and 15, 2015; Six Flags St. Louis Thursday, June 18, 2015; Silver Dollar City Friday, June 19, 2015. My main interest is in the coasters. If anyone would like to meet up for some rides, please let me know. Thanks. Robert Downie RobertDownie10@gmail.com

Most Memorable Roller Coaster Ride?
Voyager6442 replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mine would have to be my first night ride on The Voyage at HoliWood Nights in 2012. That was the first time I realized I understood what a wonderful difference riding at night made. I never dreamed that The Voyage could be even more awesome than it was during the day! -

I'm planning to visit the park on Friday, June 19. My interest is in the coasters. What kind of crowd should I expect? Are there any tips for making the most of my time at the park? Thanks. -
I noticed that at the bottom left of one of my posts, the message "Submit to Park Index" appeared. Would you please tell me what clicking on that message does? By the way, I love reading the TPR posts so much that I decided to join today. Thanks.

What is your local park?
Voyager6442 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My local park is Magic Springs in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I live about an hour away in Little Rock. It's great to have a wooden coaster like Arkansas Twister so close. I rode it 9 times yesterday, but with a season pass, there will be many more rides this summer. -
What do YOU take with you to a park?
Voyager6442 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd be interested in knowing what kind of rain gear everyone packs for a trip to a park. Do you leave it in the car, or get a locker? I read a post that said one guy was in a park when it started to rain, and he went out to his car and changed into his swimming suit. I think some parks have a rule against wearing a swimming suit in the dry park, but would they let you wear one if it was raining? I'd like to be prepared because it sounds like rides in the rain are too good to be missed! Thanks. -

You look through all the posts in this thread so you can reread the one that says, "you get back from a 6 week coaster trip, and the first thing you do is start planning the next one ... and the one after that." -
Advice for Texas-New Mexico Road Trip
Voyager6442 replied to Voyager6442's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Many thanks for all the good information. I can make this road trip at any time from the second week of June through the end of August. Would anyone have any suggestions about when to go to find the smallest crowds? Thanks. -
Advice for Texas-New Mexico Road Trip
Voyager6442 replied to Voyager6442's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks to all you who have responded. I'm planning 2 days at Cliff's because my sister in Phoenix might be able to meet me there. She isn't as big a coaster fan as I am, so we could spend Sunday visiting and riding what she wanted. I could go to the park Monday and get my coaster rides in. I am a huge wooden coaster fan. In the "Best Woodie Under 75 Feet" thread, New Mexico Rattler kept coming up again and again, and I think I would be up for 40-50 rides on it. Please keep the comments coming! Robert -
I'm planning a road trip this summer to Cliff's Amusement Park, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Sea World San Antonio, and Six Flags Over Texas. My tentative is schedule is: Sunday Cliff's Monday Cliff's Tuesday Drive from Albuquerque to San Antonio Wednesday Six Flags Fiesta Texas or Sea World Thursday Six Flags Fiesta Texas or Sea World Friday Six Flags Over Texas. I would welcome everyone's input about these things: I can go any time from June 6 through the end of August . When would be best to avoid the crowds? How busy is Cliff's on Sundays? Are there any sights to see that you would recommend? Please feel free to add any other comments you have. Thanks so much for your input.

Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
Voyager6442 replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am trying to learn what the various elements of a steel coaster are. I read on Worlds of Fun's website that Patriot has the following elements. Would anyone be able to tell me if they occur on the ride in the order listed below? 89 foot vertical loop Zero-gravity roll Immelmann Inclined banked curve S curve Corkscrew High speed spiral If anyone could point me to a website with pictures of the various elements, that would be great. Thanks! Voyager6422 -
I'm new to TPR. A while back, I tried to attach a small Excel workbook stored on my PC to a post in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, and Donkeys, in the Road Trip Planning thread, by typing the workbook's name in the file name box. A message appeared on the screen that it was uploading the Excel workbook. The message appeared for several hours, and the upload was never completed. Could you please tell me the way to attach an Excel workbook that is stored on a PC? In case you need to see the actual post, it is the one by Voyager6442 on 10/18/14 at 8:58. Would you please also tell me the way to attach a copy of a photo from a web site? Thanks for all the great work you do! You have an awesome web site. For the parks I'm planning to go to in 2015, I'm having fun going to each park's discussion thread and reading all the posts, beginning with the oldest one.

Going to parks alone?
Voyager6442 replied to alilstronger's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Going to parks alone is fine with me. I know hardly any other guys who are interested in driving 8+ hours to ride roller coasters. If the choice is between going by myself or not going, I will always choose to go by myself. I enjoy driving, so I always drive instead of flying. Having your own car feels like having a piece of home with you. I like to listen to books on CD and think about all the fun I'm going to have (or have had). My longest drive in a day was 987 miles from King's Dominion to Little Rock, Arkansas. At a park, there are usually at least a couple of times a day when you can have a good time visiting with the people waiting in line with you. A couple of times I've paired up with another guy who was there by himself, and we've spent the day together. Something else that helps is looking for opportunities to do good to other people, like letting them go ahead of you in line so their group can ride together. In fact, I think it would be really interesting if people posted stories about times they've done good to other people, or other people have done good to them. There's something about that that just makes the day go better. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
Voyager6442 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That is very interesting! It does make you wonder what they have in mind. On another note, today I was at the park all day and I met a family that drove 8 hours from Winnepeg, Canada just to go to Valleyfair! To me that was encouraging because we all assume that we are only drawing visitors from at most a couple hundred miles away. If Cedar Fair realizes this, this may be why they have marked Valleyfair as a growth park! By the way, they were having a great time! I just wanted to tell you guys how much I've enjoyed reading the VF thread. I started with the oldest post (2005?) and have been reading them in chronological order. It has been neat to see how much you guys love your park and hope for great things in the future. I hope you will get them, because you deserve them. I am 960 miles away from Minneapolis, and if I were going to be within several hundred miles of your park, I would definitely make a stop there. I'm thinking about a future road trip to WoF, Adventureland, VF, Bay Beach, Wisconsin Dells, and SF St. Louis. When I go to VF, I would love to meet some of you guys. -
Entertaining, funny ride ops.
Voyager6442 replied to GivenOneChance's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of the best ride ops I've ever heard was at Boulder Dash in 2011. She said: Please secure all loose articles, including hats, cell phones, etc. If you lose them, they WILL become part of the scenery, and you will never, EVER, EVER!!! see them again. -
Road Trip Planning
Voyager6442 replied to willthethrill's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Part of the fun of a road trip is, for me, planning it. I use the Excel workbook attached to help me plan. Some of the distances are between cities rather than between the actual parks. Hope this will be helpful to someone. -
Definite Holiwood Nights One of these 3: Trip #1 Northeast to ride Boulder Dash at night Other parks Trip #2 SFOT, SFFT, Frontier City, WoF and Six Flags St. Louis Trip #3 WoF, Adventureland, Valleyfair, Bay Beach, Timber Falls, Mount Olympus I want to find out if any track work is done on Hades 360 during the offseason and how rough it is expected to be in 2015. If anyone has comments, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks.

You might be a coaster nerd if some of your most treasured photos from last summer's trip are of wooden coaster support structures.
