I visited Wednesday for the first time since I was little, and was very impressed with the park. It helped that there was nobody there; 90% of our rides were walk ons/ one train waits. Here is my analysis of the rides (or a least the big ones): Xcelerator: AWESOME! My new #2, and #1 in the West. The launch was exhilarating, there was ejector air in the back of the train going over the top hat, and the turns were fun. 10/10; x10 Montezooma: Also awesome. The first classic Shwarzkopf (other than Revolution) that I've ridden, and I was impressed. The loop was intense, and the launch, although a bit jerky, was powerful. I also loved the restraints. 9/10; x4 Silver Bullet: I really don't get the complaints about the lack of intensity; it was very smooth and intense for me. The helix was a great way to end the ride. 9/10; x2 Ghost Rider: The layout was awesome, and it was full of airtime. Although rough, I still enjoyed the ride. It felt better when I sat in the front of a car. 8/10; x3 Boomerang: Didn't ride Jaguar: An okay family coaster. Very long. 6/10; x1 Coast Rider: A fun mouse, but the trims were a bummer. 7/10; x5 (no line, why not?) Pony Express: Not as boring as others said. I enjoyed it. 6/10; x1 Sierra Sidewinder: A fun spinning coaster, but I wish it spun more. 8/10; x2 Timber Mountain: An awesome log flume! I loved the themeing and dark ride sections. Still prefer Jurassic Park and Splash Mountain, though. 9/10; x3 Calico Mine Ride: This was a very fun dark ride. I could tell that the renovation helped a lot. Unfortunately, the smoke at the end smelled like burnt marshmallows. 8/10; x1 Supreme Scream: A fun drop tower. More intense than it looks. 8/10; x1 Overall, I had a great time, and recommend visiting on Wednesdays in late August.

I visited the park yesterday for the Slurpee Ride Event. We swung by in the morning and picked up Slurpees; I took some pics and rode Roar, V2, and Superman. We came back at around 7:00 (the park closes at 8:00), and started at Medusa. My park strategy is to start at the back of the park (Roar, Superman, etc.) and go to Medusa later; Everyone starts at Medusa, and it gets a huge line in the morning, but it's a walk-on in the end of the day. We walked on Medusa twice, then headed to the back of the park. We got in a ride on Roar and Superman, and then the park closed. But that was okay; we had Slurpee wristbands, so we could stay. Open at the ERT were Roar and Superman. (Tsunami Soaker was too, but nobody rode it- it was nighttime!) Luckily, only a handful of people were there- probably only enough to fill one Superman train and one Roar train, and yes, Roar was running one train. We started with a couple of rides on Superman, then stopped at the bathroom and then went to Roar. As the night got darker, we stayed on Roar- Now it is fairly smooth and filled with awesome airtime. I got in 3-4 rides in the very back row and 2-3 somewhere in the middle. We could have gotten another ride in, but the train stopped just outside of the station, and we had to wait for maintenance- and this was 5 minutes before ERT ended! Luckily, the ride ops were fun, entertaining, and reassuring, whether they were doing the limbo, singing "When you're happy and you know it", or encouraging selfies. We ended the night with a somewhat creepy walk to a near-deserted parking lot.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom: 1. 150 ft Intamin drop tower. 2. Remove Kong and Boomerang and built a compact RMC inverting woodie with airtime. 3. Flat rides? 4. Yay! 150 ft height limit was removed! Now we somehow make SkyScreamer, Medusa, V2, and Superman each be over 300 feet tall. 5. 500 foot Millennium Force. Okay, the last two aren't serious, but they would be awesome.

This thread is for anyone who has any sort of idea about any kind of coaster you can- or can't- make. It can be a wood coaster layout, a revolutionary element you just invented, or pretty much any idea- however crazy- that you have about a possible- or impossible- coaster. Sorry if this thread already exists... I'm not sure. I have an idea that's not very crazy for an out-and-back-and-out-and-back woodie. The lift hill will be steep, with a nearly 90-degree drop. next it will go into a turnaround that looks almost like El Toro's lift-hill-and-drop structure (do you know what I mean?), followed by two tall, intense airtime hills. After another 180-degree, El Toro- style turnaround, it will fly over 3 smaller airtime hills; next, a final turnaround, followed by 4-5 bunny hops, then a 90-degree turn onto the brake run. Although not too insane, it sounds like the airtime would be awesome.

I know this is sort of late, but I have a report from the 4th of July ERT sessions. The deal was, you bring a Coke and give it to the workers and you are let into a specific area of the park for an hour before opening. We went Saturday, July 5, and Oasis Plaza (Medusa, SkyScreamer, Kong) was open. I would have preferred Roar Plaza, because there's 3 great coasters there, but Oasis was okay because Medusa is my personal favorite in the park. They were 12 minutes late to open the gates, and everyone was sort of angry. But eventually we got in, and we got to Medusa quickly. We got on the first train out- in the front seat!- and had a great ride. After that, there was still no line, so we rode again. And again. And again. And again. 3 out of 5 rides were in the front! It helped that on your way out, they let you use the Fast Pass entrance so that you could ride again quickly. Next, we took a quick and painful ride on Kong, and then hopped on SkyScreamer just as the park opened and crowds started flowing in. We did the back of the park with no lines, and left. It was a great day, and I hope to do more ERT soon- It was my first ERT ever.

Best Drops....
coasternate replied to BiCoastal Kid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I haven't ridden too much, but probably Millenium Force, TTD, and Goliath (SFMM). For woodies, I'd say either Gold Striker or Giant Dipper (Santa Cruz.) -
Vekoma Roller Coasters

Everyone's right- Vekoma does make some great rides. -
Vekoma Roller Coasters
coasternate replied to kingdakacor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I guess Vekoma isn't as bad as I thought... I hadn't fully realized that Thunder Mountain was Vekoma, that's probably the best I've ridden. The worst was probably Kong at SFDK, although it really isn't that bad. It's just the only SLC I've been on. -
Vekoma Roller Coasters

I know that Vekoma coasters are generally very painful. Which do you think is the worst? Also, are there any Vekoma coasters that you think are good rides? What are, in your opinion, the best and worst coasters from Vekoma? -
Ride Bucket List
coasternate replied to Evanaj15's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My ride bucket list: EL TORO!!! Everyone says this is amazing... Balder- and Robb Alvey says this is better than El Toro. Intimidator 305- because I love Millenium Force. The Beast- because it looks different from any wooden coaster, period. -
Ride that Makes You (a bit) Sick
coasternate replied to coasternate's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ While at the park in May, I skipped Batman Backwards because I feared it would be so. Did Colossus backwards, though, and it wasn't nauseating, but I just didn't really like it... -
Personally, coasters and flat rides never really make me feel dizzy/nauseous- I once rode a Top Spin 5 times in one day. On the other hand,Tatsu always makes me feel a bit sick; Because of slow loading, if the ride is running 2 trains, after your ride you end up waiting outside the station in the flying position for what feels like forever. I am always relieved when the seats flip down to upright position. Are there any rides that make you just a bit (or a lot) sick?

If........ you would rather have coaster test seats in your living room than normal chairs. -

Wow! That trip seems amazing. Night ERT on Maverick, sleeping IN the park, the spooky surprise, and Millenium Force in pajamas- Awesome! -
Best And Worst Coaster In California
coasternate replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best Steel: X2 or YOLOcoaster, maybe? Worst Steel: Probably CGA's Vortex, even though it isn't that bad. Everything else is, well, just better. Best Wood: Gold Striker tied with the SC Giant Dipper. GS is just a blast, and it's filled with hidden airtime. The Giant Dipper is a real classic, and also is filled with airtime. An added plus is that it is still smooth after 90 years. Worst Wood: Probably Grizzly; I liked the ride, but everything else is just more interesting. I am going to visit Knott's soon; My new steel may be Xcelerator, and my new worst wood may be GhostRider, but I don't know; that's just based on stuff I've read on the website. -
Photo TR: California Dreamin'

Great report! I have been to both of those parks multiple times, and love them! -
B&M- Mantis? I don't think I hated it too much, but I like the others I've ridden better. Intamin- I've loved all of their rides, but I think I'll have to choose California Screamin'. It was just a little boring, and I wish it didn't have OTSR's (does it really need them???) GCI- I guess I'll have to choose Roar at SFDK- I actually really like the ride, but the only others I've ridden are Apocalypse and Gold Striker, which are both a bit better (they're all great, though.)
