What is the worst B&M/intamin/GCI
strz replied to christianscoasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's too bad! I can't say that I'm overly familiar with this coaster, but "on paper" (and video) it seems like it would be a winner! Would new restraints and/or new cars- would this help? (costly I know! Just curious of your POV) -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

I wanted to get in on the fun too! #Itllneveropen -
Really if this thing is even mediocre I'll be thrilled. Green Lantern at Magic Mountain was just so, so, so bad. Like so bad. Like god damn... I'm trying to be optimistic because it's a different ride type and a different manufacturer but that thing made me really nervous about this ride. I also despise X2 which is kind of similar in it's own right. Ditto my friend! I know this is a roller coaster, but IMO- that's stretching things, to some degree......regardless, I hope the GP eats it up, and SFGA does well with it- but "It's not my bag baby!" And yeah- I noticed the same thing......the ride is up and running, and it's a big yawn on this board!!! Ok- back to reading the lunatic's posts about Lighting Rod not ever opening!!!!

Unless they have a bunch of groups scheduled then I agree 100% I mean uh... unless the "weather" isn't too "inclement". Yeah, we'll go with that. Small window of no rain in the early afternoon, then back to our lovely Seattle-like weather! I was hoping to weasel my way out of going to my daughter's lacrosse game tonight and head to SFGA- weather doesn't seem to be on my side (park related!) Quite a revenue drain the past 3+ weeks for SFGA......

Off topic, but I'm hoping that the "regulars" can provide a point of view..... I'm taking a couple weeks off, traveling with the family this summer (Orlando> Boca> Charleston), and debating about heading to Charlotte on the front end of the trip: - my wife/daughter aren't big fans of SFGA (although they have passes, typically it is only my son who is ever remotely interested to go to the park!) Both kids are tall enough/old enough to get on all rides- yup, I'm old! - from a SFGA point of view, I'm good with: Ka, Zum, Toro, Bizarro, Nitro, Batman, and Skull Mountain when I'm there....past that- it depends on the level of crowds/whom I'm with, in terms on going on anything else - from a Carowinds point of view, it looks like my "musts" would be: Fury (no sh*%), Intimidator, Nighthawk (not a Superman fan, but this looks different), and Afterburn (I think Batman is terrific, and this seems like a good one)....past these coasters, the rest of my day would be whatever the kids wanted to go on- including spending time in the water park, if need be (looks like they put some serious $$$$ into that section this year) Should I make the trip to this park? Or is it not worth the time/money? What park would be a good comparison, in terms of size/quality/crowds? (I'm been to most major parks east of the Mississippi BTW). Thanks for chiming in- I appreciate it!

2017/2018 - New Coaster / RMC TRex - Rumor - (2/15/16) One of the big rumors that wont die this year has been about SFGAdv working with RMC to build their first TRex system coaster that will feature a new large single track beam. If this rumor follows through, the TRex track system (name still subject to change according to RMC) coaster could open at the park by 2017 or 2018. It is also worth mentions that the RMC TRex coaster would actually be an entirely steel coaster creation, and not a hybrid of wood and steel. Follow this link to see a video of RMC showing off a sample piece of TRex track that was on display at IAAPA back in November 2015, as shot by our friends at In The Loop. ^^^^^^^^but I would like to believe it!

Thanks for the heads up, when they used to serve the Tri Tip sandwich at Macho Nacho it was very good. I was planning to get it next time at the park since it is new at Best of the West this year, but now I'm not so sure. I appreciate good food, but on the other hand- I'm not a picky eater when it comes to park food.....that said, there are better options, IMO.

When the highlight was a couple of Bud Light's at Tommy's pre-SFGA at 5pm......you know it was the wrong idea to head over! - Family had plans today/tonight, so figured why not get in some coaster time for a couple hours? - About that brew, that turned into two....not to turn this into "Yelp", but man oh man, now I know why that parking lot is empty all the time! - Got to the park around 5:20pm, and the lot seemed pretty full, but I wasn't discouraged - Got through security within a minute.....feeling good, right? - Went to grab dinner at Best of the West, about a (typical) 10 minute wait, no big deal (do yourself a favor and avoid the "steak tip" sandwich!) - Took a quick look at the wait times (SFGA app) while eating: Nitro 70 minutes, El Toro 55 minutes, Bizarro 35 minutes, Skull Mountain 25 minutes, etc......not feeling it! - Since I was down there already, I figured why not take a first hand look at the (reported) 35 minute wait time on Bizarro....it was now closed! - El Toro? love it, but wasn't in the mood to wait (especially being alone!) - the newest coaster, El Diablo.....1/2 hour wait time! Nope- still haven't been on it! - At that point, I figured just walk off my crappy sandwich, get my "free" snack.....and high tail it out! - Got my braided pretzel at the "formerly know as" the "shooting gallery".....and debated a cold one with it, but- for $9.99, I took a pass! (normally I'm not cheap, but being that I wasn't going on any rides, I didn't feel like spending the $$$$) Good for SFGA, bad for me tonight! Oh well..... Last comment- as posted by another user, I agree- hoping that "The Joker" cuts back on the wait times for the good stuff in the park!

I appreciate the comments/summary.....and wasn't looking to turn this into a SFGA vs. SFG discussion board! Instead- just curious of your POV....and got it! Thanks! -

So bottom line- how does this park compare to SFGA? (I've never been to SFG)......looks good/sounds good, however- doesn't sound like there is one major "standout" when it comes to thrill rides, correct? -
What's your closest coaster?
strz replied to FishyFish's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ahhhh- The Belt Parkway! An epic adventure when I head that direction for some of my work accounts! Good times, all the time!!!! -

^^^^^^^^^^ 20 minutes to SFGA.........thus I often take advantage of a quick couple hours at opening, and head out when the crowds arrive! Same thing during the week, at night- if I'm up for it, I'll take a quick drive to jump on some coasters! -
