  1. But did you also know it is a mirrored version of a SDC Hurricane and an S&MC Windstorm? Mic Drop
  2. Well, if you're on a budget, I might not be the best person for this, seeing as I've worked in the hotel industry before and usually willing to pay a little more for a place that's nice, but I stayed at two places down there last year and really liked both of them. The first was the Best Western Plus Sterling Hotel & Suites, and the second was the Hampton Inn just off of Arrowood Road. Not sure what the rates are, but if I had to go one way or the other, the Hampton Inn is closer and getting to and from the park is a bit easier, it was also a bit better furnished, and also had a better breakfast buffet. They both have waffle makers, though, which is the important thing. Nothing like trying to kill yourself with a cup or two of freshly ironed waffle batter smothered in syrup to kick off a day of walking in a miasma of oppressive heat and tourist BO. Seriously though, both are nice, quiet, well put-together places that you can't go wrong with. I almost always stay at a Marriott or Hilton hotel and I'll diddo that Hampton. As long as you don't make a wrong turn you'll be at the park in five minutes or so. I paid about $90.
  3. It's been very hush hush at the park as well. I know some details but not much. To be honest, I'd like to see them keep it that way till the end... Look at the video below if you want to get idea of how the tower will be:
  4. Our Facebook page put up this great picture from the bottom today. Link Hole should be just about finished and foundations have started I believe.
  5. Working on my end.
  6. Maybe I'll plan another day trip up there. Had a lot of fun in the short time I was there. Shame they aren't open weekdays until June.
  7. I'm sure I'm going to end up feeling really stupid, but for the life of me I can not figure out which park you are using the acronym CO for.... Carowinds I assume.
  8. Hey now, who has the fetish with log flumes and sky rides. (Not saying it's a bad thing.) Hey, at least I'm not a new member freaking out about it. Anyway, yes, something along coasterbill's addiction to sky rides and log flumes. Actually I wanted to go on more flumes during the trip I took last May (which I really need to get the trip report done) but my father got soaked at Kings Island so he was out. I'm sure there are other rides we will do while there but the ones listed are pretty much must does. But if the bumper cars suck that bad I'll take a pass. As usual, thank you everyone for your help. Booking tickets tonight. (Doing Thursday @ Hershey Park --> Friday @ SFGAdv --> Saturday @ SFNE)
  9. I'm pondering about dropping by May 14th which is a Saturday. The flight I would take out of Boston I would need to be there by 18:30. Obviously would be at the park by opening. Given the flight time (though the locals will know better then Google) I'll get about 6 hours at the park. Will a Flash Pass be absolutely necessary if I want to do the following rides: Thunderbolt Superman Cyclone Batman (Possibly) Bumper Cars SkyScreamer Anything else is icing.
  10. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is the exact same line unless it changed over the off season which I highly doubt. What pictures do you want of the ride? There are tons out there.
  11. Considering you still have Batman, Ninja, and Joker back there, I doubt it.
  12. Footers still have to be poured and helicopters would still likely be used for minimum ground impact. These guys know what they are doing when building lifts and why change something that works? It takes around six months to build a lift anyway regardless of terrain. And yes, I meant 50MPH winds. I believe the average lift speed now days is around 1,000FPM. (And many don't run at their full speeds anyway.)
  13. Sorry, but we decided not to go through with the Patreon. We felt it just wasn't the right fit for TPR. Not a problem, I'll sign-up for ClubTPR then. Thanks for the help.
  14. No, and this would be the one drawback with the Skyway system. Assuming this is a modern enclosed Doppelmayr (or something similar) it would need to close for severe weather. They can run in rain, but they generally can't run in lightning or high winds. The wind limit is generally pretty high on these modern lifts though, it's not like we're dealing with the Cedar Point Sky Ride here. Still, I think this is a minor drawback to an otherwise awesome idea. Would it be something like the Ober Gatlinburg system? Maybe on a larger scale? Be interesting to see how many gondolas they can run at one time. I would see it being built by either Lietner-Poma or Doppelmayr-(CTEC still?) Probably just your run of the mill gondola (with a Disney touch) like you would see at a ski resort. Interested to see if this plays out. Personally I think it could be a huge risk depending on the system. Typical gondola's don't run much past 50 MPH and even at that speed it can be a snail crawl. Gondola's are much more acceptable to wind then chairs since the wind can't move through the cabin. Lightning also plays a huge factor but I know lightning protection systems exists so that might not be an issue. But when they run, they can move more people then just about anything else, and you don't have to wait long. The amount of cabins would depend on the line length.
  15. Quick question for your guys. I went on Patreon and pledged about a month ago. (One of the first 10 people I think.) Anyway, how will the relationship with Club TPR work? I was looking at possibly using it (for a discount) for my visit to Hershey Park in the middle of May and of course WCB if that does happen. I did see the fine print that physical rewards you must support for four months but don't know if Club TPR is counted as part of that. No rush on the matter, was just curious as I'm glad to support you guys,
  16. I have ridden both and thought they were very similar, not much difference at all Likewise, then again all effects were working. In fact all my rides at the SFOT have had issues, non at STL. I also think the screen order is better as well...
  17. Or click the "add foe" button on their profile, and you'll never see their post again!! "Foes are users which will be ignored by default. Posts by these users will not be fully visible" One of the best features on TPR for instances like this! Dang, I'll have to remember that.
  18. So it continues... Just ignore it and maybe it'll move on. (Or not. I'm sure the mods will catch him soon enough if they aren't already watching.) Anyway, I'll be down there first full week in March and maybe going on the 9th. It's the day I leave but should be able to stop by. Curious to see if it will be busy that day. Any ideas if some schools will be on Spring Break that week?
  19. Colossus did have a single rider line until they got rid of assigned seating. To be honest the day I was there (a Summer Saturday the year it opened) the line from the station entrance at full took less then 30 minutes, that crew was hauling. As for Viper, I see it getting the same treatment Ninja did if that turns out to be a success. I found Viper to be a breath of fresh air from the big style loopers. The back to back loops including the turn into them are very forceful even with trims. The only part I found rough by any means was the trims after the batwing, they bite hard. It made the corkscrews a little awkward to say the least. You can put me down for team Viper. As for the rumor, it's just that, a rumor that sounds like it has gone on for years and years. Will it disappear eventually? Yes, but so will many other coasters. If there is a WCB this year (the people only get stupider), you can bet if I get a chance to attend, I will be there and Viper is on my list of must rides.
  20. Ha, if we only had that much land and water for an amusement park.
  21. I think many people tend to over look the fact that the park has three solid woodies. Three. Is the Boss rough? Yes, but I've been on far far worst. The recent re-tracking by RMC has helped the worst parts of the ride, including the helix. It also looks like re-tracking is continuing as well. Here's the deal, much like Gwazi those trains are destroying that track and nothing will change that until: 1.) New trains with a re-profile as needed. 2.) Topper track which can withstand the abuse. 3.) Convert it. Six Flags could do two over time section by section. Many people would agree that previous conversion are of mediocre coasters. I don't think that is true with the Boss, it's just rough. Can any employee clarify what has been re-tracked and if it's topper or just laminates? Six Flags isn't letting this coaster rot, it is taking care of it the best they can but I think they know it is a loosing battle. If they decide to stop re-tracking, most likely I see the Boss coming out in the next decade or so which would be a shame. That being said, does anyone think that the park is on the lower end of the totem pole since it is the only park solely owned by Six Flags? Just something to chew on. The only people they have to please is themselves.
  22. FYI if anyone wants a better idea of the ride, listen to this: http://videos.postindependent.com/postindependent/4kfzp9?v=autoplay_postroll&e=e0018&opn=right_rail_embed
  23. Elitch Gardens has announced a brand new ride debuting later this year! Source Elitch Gardens Link [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  24. Haha, you should see it in real life. When we were caving regularly back in the Fall, the hole was only 60-70 feet deep and you couldn't see the bottom. Good job, that is correct. Yes, Soaring Eagle is the manufacture. We already have a dual zip from them so makes sense to me. (Then again I wouldn't have been opposed to an S&S tower.) The park on a busy Summer day handles around 2,000 guest though we've done higher. (Start personal thoughts.) Personally I don't think this is a breakout for the park, it is capitalizing on what has been a very successful concept. It's a ride that is being built in-part do to already increasing crowds. The park in part I feel is under a very controlled growth, mostly due to where it is located and the transportation. Read the whole article and you'll see that is being worked on. (End personal thoughts.) As Larry said, we do. Extra info it is of pretty good size for a park, inside the restaurant. Wine, beer, vodka, etc I started working at the park the year the Canyon Flyer opened (2014) but have been at the park when other rides have opened as well. (Including the Cliffhanger grand opening.) This ride by far I'm the most excited about. Not only is it a unique experience for the park, but it brings a whole new experience especially in the theme department. While the article kind of hints at the ride experience, there is so much. I can't tell you what some details are of course but I'm sure that if you love the Tower of Terror concept, you will love this. I hate drop towers but you can bet I'll be one of the first employees on. That being said, if anyone is updated I can continue to follow the progress. The hole is done be blasted hopefully we'll see some vertical progress soon. The structure you see will be over the ride so that we can hopefully run it in the Winter with the other four attractions. Whenever it opens, you can bet (if I'm not working) that I'll be there to cover it. I'm really excited about the future of the park. I've seen the plans, sketches, talked, etc what is ahead. I think you guys will be too.
  25. Done, I guess I have to thank this person so that you posted this. I had been thinking about joining Club TPR but this sealed the deal.
