Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

It wasn't glass smooth, but it was smoother than Time Warp, Flight Deck, Wild Beast, Dragon Fire, Minebuster and The Bat (imo) so I always thought of it as one of the better coasters in the park. re: nutache, bend your knees a bit before they lock the seats and then stand flat footed for the ride. If that doesn't work maybe there is a cream you can apply afterwards. Then you could really look forward to riding. I went on skyider this spring on `don't take your kid to the park day` and went on 5 or 6 times walk on/ reride. It was a good time. I don't think i would want to go back and face huge lineups just for one last ride. I wonder if they are removing skyrider because it is in the way and disrupts the pathways. Maybe we can put up a petition to remove time warp and flight deck and relocate skyrider there. I remeber sfga was planning to remove whizzer and it was saved by public outcry. (skyrider is no whizzer, but is still worth riding). That's actually a really good idea. I'd support it if there was a petition. -

I personally found any straight bits on the ridee were pretty close to glass smooth. The only somewhat bothersome sections were the helix and the last turn around. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
canadianparkfan replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Worst: Mindbender, Galaxyland, West Edmonton Mall: Absolutely amazing ride, pulling over 5G multiple times, packing in some good laterals and the occasional pop of air here and there, all to end with... You guessed it, a straight bit, a forceless helix, and... Wait for it... Another straight bit! Best: Skyrider, Canada's Wonderland: 3 pops of absolutely amazing standup ejector airtime that catapults you off the floor (it doesn't hurt if you adjust the seat right!). R.I.P. Skyrider... A little piece of me died an excruciatingly painful and gory death when I heard this ride was closing next month -

R.I.P. Skyrider While it had it's rough patches "cough" helix o death "cough", overall, the ride was IMHO, forceful, intense, airtime filled , and yes, for a 29 year old Togo, it was smooth. Also loved that it was one of the oy rides I can think of off the top of my head that one can build an exact copy of in RCT3, with no mods or custom elements. Here's to hoping an RMC takes up the space this great ride will be leaving empty. If not an RMC, here's to hoping B&M bring the forces back, and build something that does justice to the Japanese airtime machine that stood their. -

Whilevi'd love to see an RMC over a wing coaster at CW, I could totally see the park removing time warp, as well as the kings wood theatre, to build a wing coaster adding onto the military/flight theme they've already got going with flight deck. Sort of like they built leviathan's station to look like it always fit into Medevil fair, or how WMG looks like the supports are part of the mountain etc. -

^^Agreed. Plus, they said DON'T Bellyache and Moan. Which means NOT a B&M. My guess, new prototype from Mack (or possibly B&M), maybe a. Launched flyer. -

^The description (of the ride experience at least) sounds very similar to Alton's Air, but launched. -
^Also didn't enjoy Cobra... Found it a lot less forcefull than the layout would've lead me to believe. I actually enjoy the TOGO standup at Canada's wonderland more, as you at least get some decent forces on that ride. Never been on a GCI, so I'll skip back to B&M. My vote has to go to Leviathan. Yes, it's a great ride, but on my last visit to CW, I found it to be quite forceless after the first drop and pullout. In addition, there were at least a few spots where it felt like we'd valley. Just not as fun as the other B&Ms I've been on.

Happyland
canadianparkfan replied to printersdevil78's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Might not be a great show, but it'd be funny if one of the characters was an enthusiast... Almost like a joke about the comunity. As long as they didn't make us look too bad, I think that'd be pretty funny. -
I wouldn't say I hate leviathan, but found it rather forceless the last time I rode it. I'd just been on Behemoth, and Drop Tower, and found compared with those two, Leviathan seemed to have no airtime or forces apart from the 1st drop. It could've been that I had a bad seat (was near the back, & every other time I've rode it's been closer to the front), & that it was rather windy and cold that day (might've slowed the ride down?), but anyway, the ride seemed to do nothing for me. IMO, CF basically gave Canada their own shortened MF, complete with forcelessness.

Most log flumes don't have airtime... oh, wait. Yup, it's a log flume. I'm still mad about the super-neuter. I understand that the original slide was unsafe, but couldn't they redesign the hill in such a way that there's a little airtime? Maybe make the hill just a little less intense and then put up walls and nets like the slide in Italy? That was allowed to operate. I'm sure you could have that much airtime on a 400lb raft and have relatively little flying off the slide. Or would that not affect it, like how "normal" gravity does not depend on weight? But hey, but if it is a log flume, at least Robb has another ride to sing his song on! Well, if you want airtime, ride a one of those speed slides with multiple drops (other than this one) or a proslide rocket.... Extreme flume sums this up ride perfectly.

Your guilty pleasure ride
canadianparkfan replied to DanTheBooker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have to say BTR clones, and Skyrider, a Togo standup that's nowhere near as rough as people say. Also would have to say intamin second gen towers. -

Showed a pic of outlaw run to various people. Nobody I've met thus far understands how such a ride exists! They also don't believe that the iron horse treatment is a thing . GP + RMC = Mind *BLOWN* for GP -

Here's my opinion on the rides, as to what to hit, & what to avoid. My opinion on Skyrider is this. For a nearly 30 year old TOGO standup, the thing's amazing. Other than the Helix and the final turnaround, the ride's crazy intense (in a good way. The loop is good and forceful, and there is plenty of airtime throughout the ride. I also like how the front and the back give different experiences. The back row gives some great air going into the first drop, and some cool hangtime at the top of the loop, where'as the front provides the full effect of the trick track, making you feel as if you'll hit the fence, and some great ejector air on the last few hills. Just be sure to brace yourself durring the helix and last turn, and it's a great ride IMO. Guardian's fun, but not worth itvif the line extends pastxthecwaterfalls. As for the other rides, behemoth and Leviathan are both eccilent. I'd recommend the front row for Leviathan, and the back for behemoth, but that's just me. The other coasters at the park are just "meh" IMO. You may want to ride the Arrows (Dragon Fire and Vortex), but be prepared for them to be rough. Last time I rode them, it wasn't fun . Finally, as far as woodies go, Minebuster's fairly forceless asside from the helix, unfortunately, however, I'd definitely recomend the Wild Beast. Despite many reports of the ride being rough, I rode toward the front on a recent visit, and loved the ride. It gave more air than Minebuster, and despite a few rough patches, was great. As a bonus, the ride never has a line. One more thing this park has that you should definitely check out is their great flats. Sledgehammer, when running, isn't nearly as intense as it may look, but is definitely a unique experience. He park's Mondial frisbee,Psyclone, is one of my fav flats, and gives some pretty good airtime (if you sit facing the exit), as well as tons of Positive Gs. Finally, the HUSS giant enterprise, also located in that area, is definitely worth checking out, and a lot more enjoyable than Nightmares, the UFO (also made by HUSS) across the park. FINALLY, I saved the best for last... These rides are not only the two best flats in the park, but IMO, the two best rides in general at CW. I'm talking about shockwave, the park's Mondial Topscan, and Drop Tower, their intamin 2nd gen freefall. First, Drop Tower, IMO, provides the greatest drop of any ride at CW, including Leviathan and Behemoth. The airtime is just so strong and sustained, and the unexpected drop makes it even better. In addition, due to leviathan being across from the tower, the view is spectacular, looking out at the only (until carowinds gets theirs) B&M giga in existance. Another bonus of having leviathan so close, is being able to take advantage of the tendancies of the GP, who often think bigger and newer means better. Leviathan almost always sucks all the lines out of drop towe, as well as most other rides in that area. I've ranted enough about intamin towers in other threads, so I'll shut up now, but for sure, this is a must do flat at CW. The other great ride, is shockwave. While you may occasionally get a forceless ride, most of the time you're almost garonteed more than a few OMFG moments throughout. Just make sure to pick the end seat on your row, and you're set! -
I meant a bystander got struck. By the way, does NJ have the most strict "safety" regulations of any state? Or does that "honor" go to California or some other state? I'm not sure about it having the most strict safety regulations, but I'd imagine they're pretty strict. As someone in Canada (i've heard we have some relatively strict regulations when it comes to rides), this seems like overkill. At my home park, they'll allow guests to walk pretty much under Leviathan, during parts of the ride where it's running from 60-90+ mph. I'm not blaming this on the state tho, IMO, it was the park's fault. It was pretty stupid on the park's part for not checking into things like this. I always thought parks had to check with local regulations and provincial/state governments before they even started building, but I guess SF's exempt from this Even worse, this isn't the first time SF's run into trouble with local regulations... Remember SFDK's V2? If you're referring to Ka's original quene line, it was built within state regulations. They would have never allowed the park to open Ka in the first place if it wasn't. You saw what they did with Zumanjaro. I don't know how SFDK got away with V2 but if someone knows, please tell me. Haha And a bystander was never hit by any metal on Ka but last year or the year before, I believe a bird struck a rider in the front row or somewhere on the train. I have no idea how V2 happened either lol. Neither do I know how they managed to get this ride off the ground without having to cut through more red tape.

It ma have an impact on Europe, but hopefully the GP here on this side of the pond don't get as good coverage. However, all GP issues asside, this is a tragedy, and I'm sure the whole enthusiast comunity feels for this guy and his family Just a day after I rank an intamin ride as my #1 attraction in the country, this happens

Best Drop Ride!!!

^All hail the almighty second gen! I don't know why, but the arm tower I rode (10 story portable version), was just "meh". Yes, the airtime was great for a tower of its size, but compared with other towers, I wasn't super impressed. I actually found that the airtime and experience of the 2nd gen to be closer to how how people describe the ARM ones. Are the slightly larger park models any better? I've also heard great things about the moser towers. Anyone here done one of those? -

Carowinds Discussion Thread

My only problem with leviathan, is that to me, it seemed that CF was copying their formula they did with CP. Similar kind of airtime hill filled ride like Magnum when they built Behemoth, & then Leviathan was just a shortened version of MF. Not that it's a bad thing (I don't have to drive all that way to CP to get an MF like experience ), but I would've liked it not to be a near clone! As for this ride, between this prepossessing layout, & banshee , it seems like b&m'a making a comeback! -
