Carowinds Discussion Thread

It was mentioned Fury was part one of the here part expansion and Carolina Harbor was part two. IIRC 2014 was part one with Harmony Hall and the new slides, making 2016 the final phase of the $50 million expansion. Can anyone clear things up? -

It's a shame that Skyrush's restraints are such an issue for so many people. El Toro's restraints are amazing and you don't notive they're even there unless you're being ejected into them. Come to think of it that's most of the ride lol. El Toro ops haven't been stapling this year that I've noticed, but the pullout/valleys staple you themselves. The first drop can still be ejector, unstapled awesomeness. -
I believe this was specifically I-box conversions, not projects in general. I've been saying this for awhile now--a ground up RMC wooden coaster would be the best thing for this park. Their current wooden coasters are decent overall, but not specifically a high poiint for the park. There would be nothing like it anywhere nearby.

Fixed There's nothing to indicate that the three CF parks with hypers and gigas aren't successful with both. In fact, it's quite the opposite. I think it would be a very smart move for Kings Island to hop on board. Frankly I'm interested to see where B&M takes the giga concept past Fury 325. -

it appeals to the GP, can break records, attract more visitors, and make the park more money. The park doesn't care about enthusiasts that think it is redundant, they make smart business decisions. All four giga coasters in North America are very high quality, highly praised rides. And I assure you, Behemoth will not be relocated. It has very high ridership and is a very different coaster than Leviathan. Ever wonder why Cedar Point built MF? Same reason CW built Leviathan. And guess what... Magnum still has its niche and is not being relocated anytime soon/ever. Just because these rides are taller/faster/longer than hypers does not mean they are just a larger version. They are very unique and serve a different purpose. Rob Decker's interview during Fury's media day explains this well. Also, it still amazes me that you don't like giga coasters being added to parks. I don't really even understand that logic--they're kick-ass coasters so why don't you just ride them and appreciate them for what they are? -

+Cedar point Cedar Point is probably getting nothing except maybe a few new family rides in 2017, unless Cedar Fair is that much of an @$$hole. I'm not saying I know exactly how the industry works, but you have absolutely no idea how the industry operates. -

Toss Knotts in that mix, but that's going to be a rumor forever. Even if Knotts were to get a Giga coaster, there would still be Giga coaster rumors floating around -

^I know exactly what you mean. I think its because it's so tucked away in the corner and doesn't have the presence that Dragster does where you can see it running almost anywhere in the park. It does still get a really long, backed up line at park opening. The ride usually opens to riders at 11 because it's usually broken (lol @ boldikus) but everyone goes to Kingda Ka and El Toro, which always opens at 10:30, is less than a five minute wait until noon. I've also noticed that Kingda Ka's line generally has less than half as many people as Dragster's, but can take longer because of Zumanjaro and Six Flags being Six Flags. -

Enthusiast speculation? It's been talked about since Banshee opened. I think a Giga coaster is the next logical option, just not in 2017. -

Except they built two coasters in 2010, 2013, and arguably 2014. Nobody's mandating they do exactly one per year. -

No kidding? I would have never guessed Gotta stay in what you can afford Breakers Express In all seriousness it is a really good value even if its far from "luxury." -
I just have this sinking feeling that the only coasters in the chain for 2016 will be at Discovery Kingdom and Great Adventure. Add in two more Justice League clones, 2-3 waterpark expansions, a few new flats here and there and maybe some kiddie rides... and there you have it. I hope I'm wrong but there's been so little going around the chain in terms of rumors this year I'm expecting disappointment.

Interestingly enough, this is pretty much true! Aside from finding Mantis better than "Iron Apocalypse", I do think Riddler's Revenge and Green Lantern Chang are better than Mantis and certainly Carowinds' Vortex (the worst B&M Stand up I have ridden, easily!). I haven't ridden Georgia Scorcher or CGA Vortex personally, but everything I've heard about GS is that it is one of the best Stand-Ups out there. I makes me wonder why it is that SF had such better success with their models...? With Iron Wold being the lone exception, they waited. There were three earlier, smaller models (two of which are Cedar Fair coasters), the three large stand up models, the later two are Six Flags' coasters, and Georgia Scorcher, which was just better engineered and is obviously much newer. If you do the same thing over and over, you're bound to get better at it. By the time Six Flags really got into the stand ups starting with Chang, they actually started to get decent.

This announcement actually helped me make up my mind to get a Kings Dominion season pass instead of Six Flags next year. Even though SFA is way closer to me I'm just tired of waiting for something interesting to happen at SFA and these rides are a ton of fun. And for those complaining about the lack of a new coaster, my post is *exactly* what the park wants with additions like these. Way less expensive than a coaster, but still brings in more business. You don't need a coaster every other year to draw more visitors. -

I'm just going to say this and it really needs to written on the top of every Cedar Fair park's thread... BUILDING NEW COASTERS HAS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW LONG A PARK HAS "WAITED" OR IF A PARK "DESERVES" ONE. There. I said it. Cedar Fair isn't going to be like "oh yeah I feel bad for Kings Dominion that we haven't "given" them a new coaster in a while so we should probably do that instead of making a lot more money doing the same thing at Cedar Point." -
Can you direct me to someone saying it's worse than Mantis? That's almost ridiculous. The absolute worst review I've read is that it eliminates the leg pain and ball crushing and is otherwise comparable to Mantis. From what I've heard the overwhelming majority think it's a huge improvement and rides much smoother.

After seven years though they should get one. This is a huge misconception. New coasters aren't built based on "need" or just whenever they've waited long enough. They're built when it's a smart investment that could have the best ROI. If a park has steadily growing attendance and hasn't built a new coaster in ten years, why spend money for no reason? Then why was intimidator built in the first place? Maybe you could attempt to understand what you just replied to. It might have an answer somewhere in there.
