  1. What??? I seriously in all my time spend at Cedar Point and working around coaster nerds don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything bad about Raptor! And the only things said bad about Maverick was resolved this year with the new restraints. I really don't think there is a 50/50 split of people loving/hating Maverick & Raptor. That data doesn't even seem close to be accurate. To add to this, the only people I've ever heard say anything *bad* about Maverick or Raptor are enthusiasts saying they're "poorly engineered pieces of crap." Maybe a very small percentage of the general public don't really appreciate them, but I've never heard someone at Cedar Point say they're bad rides.
  2. That would be ideal, but realistically, this is Six Flags and RMC. RMC does inversions very well, and Six Flags (come to think of it) hasn't installed a full size steel coaster without inversions in quite a long time. Was Texas Giant the last time? That would be a little ironic.
  3. They only seem to be making forceless designs for Cedar Point. Banshee and Fury 325, while not exactly on an Intamin level, are still pretty forceful. Guys to be honest, that's ridiculous. "Yeah, so since at some indiscernible point in the future Cedar Point might want to use a VR set with specifically the coasters that we may or may not build that have not been planned yet, we're going to design this ride to exert fewer g-forces on its riders. I think that's the plan." Yes I know I'm exaggerating a bit with my "quote," but honestly do you really think that's realistic at all?
  4. ^308' tall? Cedar Point touts the height of Millennium Force all the time, and its *always* been 310 feet.
  5. ^ You win the Internet. Again. It's almost TOO realistic.
  6. ^I never said Gatekeeper was a fluke in terms of being "lesser" than the other star coasters built at Cedar Point. If you go back and read the rest of my sentence... ...you'll see that what I was referring to as "fluky" was the amount of time between Maverick and Gatekeeper, not the ride itself in any way.
  7. I think Gatekeeper was just somewhat of a fluke or a long pause for coasters after Maverick. If you look back at Cedar Point's history, since the 80's they've built new/record breaking coasters every few years. Magnum, Mean Streak, Rapor, Mantis, Millennium Force, Wicked Twister, and Top Thrill Dragster (plus a kiddie coaster in there) were all built in a timeframe of four years max in between (Mantis and Millennium Force). After Maverick, and acquiring the Paramount parks, they wanted to focus on other parks, and reimagine the image of Cedar Point being more well rounded (not that it wasn't already). So, they took a five year break (2008-12) at Cedar Point, then got right back on track with Gatekeeper. Two years of pretty minor investments relative to the parks history (excluding the Breakers renovation which was funded from a waterpark sale) and you have another great opportunity to reimagine the Marina gate for what is presumably much more affordable than Gatekeeper. Anyways, that just my theory. It's not that this was particularly sped up, it's just the period of time between Maverick and Gatekeeper was a sign of change for the company.
  8. I wouldn't call dark ride "disappointing". It would definetly be different for CL, and I'm sure a lot of fans and GP would appreciate something like a dark ride-coaster hybrid over another "meh" b&m. "Meh" B&M is probably the last way I would describe the worlds tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster. Honestly sometimes you guys hold Cedar Point to such standards that which they are destined to fail. This looks like an awesome ride to me and I would go out of my way for it, probably more so than Gatekeeper.
  9. The website has been updated with a little bit of info about the ERT event Sunday morning. I'll be visiting with a buddy (both of us season pass holders at SFA)... the event starts at 10am, how much before this should we plan to arrive? It says sign in begins at 9am, could the even actually be this busy? I'm hoping getting to the lot at 9:30 should be good.
  10. I'm going to re-visit my SFA prediction. 2016: Water park expansion (confirmed), maybe a flat if they're feeling frisky. The rumored air race would be killer. 2017: With Gadv likely getting the Free Fly in '16, an RMC would be the best thing ever. A custom wooden coaster either replacing Roar or somewhere in the field between Coyote Creek/Gotham City. 2018: Off year, maybe a kiddie ride expansion 2019: Justice League dark ride 2020: Water park expansion. The locals love this water park, and it's actually really good for anything SF related
  11. Well... look at Cedar Point's existing B&M coasters. Raptor was for inverts was Valravn will be for dive coasters, only earlier on and has since been beaten. Raptor doesn't have the "Wow" factor of the Intamins in the park, but it still has incredibly high ridership and is one of the top attractions at the park. I don't see how this would be any different--no, it isn't a 300 foot scream machine some were (unrealistically) hoping for, but to me it looks like it could be a huge win for the park, just like Gatekeeper was. And I think there'll be much less whining about Valravn than there was about Gatekeeper.
  12. I think the problem most people have with Gatekeeper isn't the first drop or even up until the first keyhole, it's just that once it goes over the entrance to the park, the ride might as well be over. I can't think of many more coasters that have such a decent beginning into one of the most boring and useless 2nd halves of a layout ever. And the first drop is very good. I'm not sure I would call it "super intense" but it is very good. I felt the same way after the second run around over the park entrance I felt like "ok the point of the rest of the ride is to get back to the station/get the record for the longest winged coaster, lol. The second half (after the dive loop) is also incredibly slow paced. The second roll over the gates is taken noticeably slower than the first (and less forcefully), followed by the "mid" course brakes, then a helix that seems like it should be about five mph faster. The first half is pretty good and retains good speed, but after the dive loop it just isn't very good at all.
  13. I'm with Robb on this one. I've ridden Griffon and it was definitely one of the best B&M's I've ridden. My question is this--for those that are disappointed, what more were you expecting? We pretty much expected all the stats... 223 feet, 80 mph, most inversions on a dive coaster. Thats exactly what this is, and people complain that it "isn't more." What, just because something will be built at CP it "has" to revolutionize the industry? This will probably be among the top two B&M's at the park (with Raptor) and a top five coaster at the park. Oh, how awful.
  14. I'm sure it's because 1) There's no other option for people not to pay 2) To persuade people to buy gold passes
  15. El Toro. I will say though after riding Wicked Cyclone this past week if Great Adventure got an RMC with a twister layout it would absolutely work. Wicked Cyclone was nothing like El Toro, a totally differen't ride experience. I can't tell whether you are saying that an RMC El toro is a good idea, but i think that will totally ruin one of the best (or even the best) wooden roller coasters on the planet. No, he's saying it would be too similar to El Toro as both are intense airtime focused extreme wooden coasters. However, an RMC with a twister layout (unlike Lightning Rod) might be a better fit for Great Adventure, and I agree to both points... a twister RMC would be amazing and El Toro is already perfect and shouldn't be touched (save for some retracking in the turnaround). ...and I see this response is now repetitive
  16. The image was just stretched, making it look like there "revealing" more of the coaster. All they did was remove the green coaster which is presumably Shockwave. You guys have looked too far into this way too many times. It's filler, just as other CF parks have in their images.
  17. That just might be my new home screen
  18. You and your puns. I knew you were trouble, coasterbill.
  19. Fun TV was a big surprise. I noticed at both KD and CP that the majority of the queues were fully engaged in the trivia, and the music videos did make the crowds more lively. I find Fun TV to be quite enjoyable myself, minus Taylor Swift. I'm sorry, what? Can't process this. Hard to tell if sarcasm, but If it wasn't sarcasm he's saying he doesn't enjoy watching Taylor Swift music videos.
  20. Are you kidding? If I saw some of these shots poster-sized I would pay good money without even thinking about it. I made one of the shots of Millennium my lock screen. Seriously, these are fantastic. Well done.
  21. If they put some virtual reality imagery on Wicked Twister that would be really trippy. Like traveling through space or something weird. It might be better than being high... or how I imagine it to be
  22. I would argue Carowinds' coaster lineup at least compares to Six a flags Ofer Georgia's. You might not think its better, but it certainly is at least in the same league. And I might even argue Carowinds has a better lineup than Kings Dominion at this point.
  23. Dispatching every two minutes with completely full trains would put through 600 pph. Dispatching every 90 seconds (efficient, still realistic) with full trains would put through 800 pph. Dispatching every minute (not sure block system even allows this) with full trains yields 1200 pph. 1140 seems pretty "optimistic" so I'd guess it's more around 750-1000 on a consistent basis.
