  1. Made my first visit to Great America last night. I was really pleasantly surprised! Didn't get to do everything I wanted or really experience the park because the park was only open for 6 hours, but what I did get to was excellent. Goliath 2x (very back) Raging Bull 1x (very back) American Eagle 1x Viper 1x Whizzer 1x Batman 1x King Chaos 1x Justice League 1x Goliath was my first RMC and I was really impressed. I intentionally held my expectations in the middle knowing the "good but not great" reviews and that's the way to go. It's no El Toro, but damn. Probably just outside my top 5. Raging Bull's first drop in the last row is ridiculous. I was very, very not stapled (3-4 inches between the lapbar and my thighs) and I was well above my seat the entire drop. The only first drops I can think of that I like more are El Toro and *maybe* I-305. The rest of the ride was really fun even with the super obnoxious trim. Liked Goliath a tad more but both exceeded expectations.
  2. ^I'm sure the lift/launch was decided far before Lightning Rod was ever scheduled to open.
  3. Millennium's more like 10-15 minutes, really. 30 is really exaggerating from the ramp considering their operations and the high capacity. Maverick could still be 30-45 fairly easily at peak times though. I believe you can always choose a row.
  4. ^It's the same thing and I think it was pretty apparent what prozach was referring to.
  5. Usually when people talk about something over and over again in herds I think there's at least some lick of truth or evidence to it... to some extent... but this is one of those things that continually amazes me that *everyone* is on board with and seems to be convinced is a thing. It's actually incredible how much I feel like I'm missing something here. No, it doesn't matter that it's their 40th vs literally any other year. At all. #I'mwithBill That said, I do think they're planning something big for 2020, but that's not because it's their 150th. I do remember reading some pamphlet Cedar Fair released in 2012/2013 about building up Cedar Point for 2013-2020 and Matt Ouimet mentioning more about their "roller coaster DNA" thing and how 2020 kind of caps off their investment plan or something like that. I don't feel like finding it though lol.
  6. Holiday World! First visit likely on the 29th. Super excited.
  7. Nitro is definitely the best out of all its clones. Oh wait they're not clones... oh...
  8. If you wanna do more than about 5 of them you'll be happy to spend the money of Fright Lane. I was at the park Saturday from 11am-1am. What an awesome day. With FL+ did Banshee and Diamondback around 10x each (plus multiple well after dark) and Beast front row at night once again. Park looks great and I was so happy to have made it back, Banshee definitely grew on me (though I really liked it already before) and I discovered Diamondback in car 5--surprisingly my favorite seat.
  9. 2016 was a good year... Got back to Kings Dominion, Cedar Point, Six Flags America and Great Adventure (which I didn't expect). Kennywood, Kings Island and Dorney Park were all new for me. BGT and SWO are out, replaced with Disney and Universal (last I've heard, at least).
  10. Hi guys. Long time coal miner and lurker here. I felt compelled to make my first post after more than six years of just reading to say coal miners are nearly impossible to offend. We are aware of the jokes and stereo types. Hell, we make them ourselves. Anyway, I'll be at Kings Island Saturday with my 9 year old son, enjoying the crap out of the offensive haunts. Now back to my hole in the ground. I have no idea if this is facetious or not because I'm really tired but regardless, this is my favorite post on here in quite awhile. Post more, I like you.
  11. ^No, because Cedar Point opens two months later than CGA, and the rehab actually does take the entire offseason. The process is a lot more complex than you might think. They seem like they're moving along nicely with it, which is good to see.
  12. They're not very good flyers but IMO bad flyers are better than no flyers. There's not a whole lot to do at the park so honestly you might as well take the 10 minutes to try it.
  13. I had to quote this to have any remote possibility of reading the text that small, but since I've come this far I might as well respond. I haven't ridden Kumba and I'm sure I would like that ride infinitely more than The Beast almost any time of the day. I'll be honest, Beast during the day is impressively mediocre for a ride with those kinds of statistics. At night though... I don't see how any other ride in the world could change that much. Millennium might be the only other ride that comes close at night, but Millennium Force is already an amazing coaster during the day (at least I think so). Five hours of night rides at Kings Island sounds amazing. Saturday can't come soon enough.
  14. Didn't think I'd be back, but Kings Island this Saturday. Super excited to get back on Banshee and Beast after midnight.
  15. Maybe it has to do with body type. Personally I've never had an issue with Intimidator's straps tightening and find them incredibly comfortable given the ride experience.
  16. Actually considering it's your first time riding I-305 (if I remember correctly) it may be worth getting Fast Lane just for a marathon session at night (pending how many rides you want to handle). The Fast Lane queue drops you right into the station for the back row (two train wait from there) which is where you should be riding. The rain policy isn't Great Adventure's cold policy by any stretch of the imagination but it's nothing like Cedar Point. They'll run everything in a drizzle, close everything for lightning, and I-305 and Volcano seem to go down first but that's expected. Come to think of it, it started pouring the second I got off I-305 the last time that day last October and they closed it right then (along with everything in the park) but the threat of rain before then didn't stop them. It's generally somewhere in the middle in terms of rain policies.
  17. I was at the park on a Friday in early October last year (the 9th?) and it was that weird full day operation on a Friday thing, but it was empty until around 5. All the maze lines were 20-45 minutes and the ride lines weren't bad (20 for I-305) but definitely more crowded than during the day. I think the main theme is (which you guys already know) that it's rarely crowded at Kings Dominion during the day, but it can get pretty crowded just before all the Haunt festivities begin for both mazes and coasters.
  18. From the enthusiast's perspective, yes B&M coasters can be very similar in terms of forces and ride experience. All B&M hypers are the same, etc. But to the average guest (the people the park actually builds these rides for), RMC's, I-box or wood (T-rex is a different story), can be very similar. Sure, they'll have different layouts and a unique mix of elements that stand out to enthusiasts, but to most people it'd be like having Prowler and Renegade in the same park. Two awesome rides that have no problem being there individually, but there really isn't a huge benefit to having both for the average guest at the same park. B&M's, on the other hand, all have different trains, a different style and flare to each type (and it doesn't matter if you think "oh they're all cookie cutter, forceless rides, the trains are just a gimmick" because I guarantee most people don't see it that way). Having two RMC's is like having two mansions in adjacent gated communities in Florida. Having two B&M's is like having one five bedroom colonial in Georgia and another apartment in Manhattan.
  19. ^Ill respectfully disagree. Even after being away for over a year and riding rides like Maverick, Phantoms Revenege, Millennium Force and I-305 and thinking maybe El Toro isn't all that compared to these, I went back on a 90 degree day in seat 6-2 and it was still right there with the best. It could use some retracking in the turnaround but I think in the right conditions it's still in the conversation for best in the world IMO.
  20. Yeah NJ has a somewhat high unemployment rate, so Im a bit confused. Maybe dont hire college kids if they cant work the entire season? And Rutgers, a giant college (40,000), is like an hour away. So its not like these kids evaporate. Regardless. The consensus is that Hurricane Harbor may not be so great next weekend? Serious question--have you ever heard the term "summer job"? Adults, especially those with college degrees, generally don't look for minimum wage positions in amusement parks. These are low paying, seasonal jobs with iffy hours after daily operations come to a close. And college students don't drive an hour away three days each weekend to go work 6 hour shifts at a minimum wage job, so yes, they do evaporate. I don't know how to respond to "don't hire college kids" because I think it's been covered and should really be common knowledge why parks hire who they hire. Anyways, moving on. It's not the parks responsibility to operate ride they own, you're paying just to get in. If you don't want to pay for reduced operations, don't go.
