I'm hoping this Kings Island project is really above and beyond for a traditional GCI wood coaster with the surrounding area/plaza/layout/etc. Every year since 2012 Cedar Fair has done a kind of "transformative" addition to a park or area, often with a massive B&M coaster. I'm all for Cedar Fair moving in directions outside of another new B&M (Banshee was better than expected but Valravn was nothing special IMO) but if that means "just" another GCI I'm not sure that's a huge leap--it just might not have the same overall impact of a massive B&M that inserts itself into the top three at the park before even being built. That said, I'll go with pretty much what coasterbill said but I'm not sold on Valleyfair's dark ride... maybe another slide complex at Soak City where their Looping Starship is? I'm not really familiar with that park. And I feel like Hurler will actually be in-house instead of GCI but I might be way off base with that. If all holds true though this is a very small year for these parks. I thought I heard/read something that 2017 would be "back to normal" after a smaller 2016 investment with finishing the Hotel Breakers transformation. I don't know, something kinda "off" at this point.

Yes If you're there sometime around 12 you should be able to leave by 4:30 no problem. I'm not sure if Roar will be open but even if it's not you're not missing much. It's not the worst ride (that goes to Apocalypse and Mind Eraser) but if you get to Superman and Wild One (each in the back, Wild One second to last row) you've essentially done the best the park has to offer. Try Batwing to see if it's your thing--I generally enjoy it but a lot of people hate it.

^Dont get a flash pass because that means you'd be wasting ten minutes at the flash pass booth. The only lines you'll have to deal with are Superman VR (so ride between 2-5pm unless you desperately want to try VR and wait two hours for it) and maybe Batwing. No single rider lines but everything else is probably a walk on.

I had heard how awful Corkscrew is but some enthusiasts whine about everything, and especially in a park with so many world class rides we thought maybe it would be tolerable like Vortex... yeah we were wrong. Luckily it was nowhere near our last ride at the park (not even our last day there) so it didn't leave a bad impression at all but holy crap that ride is awful. Thanks for the comments everyone, hoping to have day five up tomorrow.

Maybe, just MAYBE, they're preparing for bigger lines? More coasters = more lines = new coaster soon? Although this theory will probably be shot down and chucked down the toilet, it may be something... and something is better than nothing And I'm aware there is no footer pouring or any construction. yet. And I'm very disappointed about that. New coaster or not, an all season fast lane pass is an actual smart idea by Valleyfail, for once. Dorney's doing the same thing so no, sorry. It's just business. -
I'm glad SFA only runs one train on Batwing because with their operations you actually would be on the brakes for 15 minutes but lying down facing the sun. I'm actually with Boldikus here on this one. I enjoy Superman at Great Adventure but wouldn't wait more than 20 minutes for it. I'm definitely alone on this but I feel like the brake run kind of mimics those zero gravity chairs that decompress your spine and I kinda like it, lol. Maybe it's a body type thing but I've never minded being in that position.

^Thats what I'm getting at. Coasters with inversions are great on occasion but if you were to ask anyone their favorite ride at a park or their five favorite coasters anywhere, most of the time they don't have inversions. RMC's are great and they can be the standout ride at a park but sometimes traditional steel coasters are necessary from time to time and Six Flags isn't doing that anytime soon. Six Flags parks are becoming filled with looping coasters and I'm interested to see if that's going to change anytime in the near future.

Doubtful but I hope so. That ride absolutely blows. I know they've supposedly done a lot of retracking this year but they have a far superior wooden coaster about 200 feet away and no amount of retracking is going to make Roar anywhere above extremely mediocre, even by GCI standards. RMC is the best way to go especially for the park as a whole because costs would stay low relative to building a new ride plus plaza, queue, etc. That said, I feel like we would've heard a little more about the rides closure at this point so I'm skeptical.

Because the B&Ms are literally the only coasters capable of running three trains? What are they going to order more trains to break the control system and try to improve capacity by disregarding block sections? Bottom line is that Canada's Wonderland runs as many trains as possible on all their coasters (Ride of Steel is the size of Behemoth, it just has fewer blocks and runs two fewer trains) while Darien Lake runs one almost all time on almost every ride. It's great to love a park but it's stupid to defend a park for something when they're obviously in the wrong.

Take it for what's it's worth, but one project I heard is for Kennywood. Another was CP, but for 2018 opening. Not sure how reliable the info is though. If Kennywood built anything RMC I would drop out of school and relocate to West Mifflin. -

A 2015 interview with Alan Schilke said they have four (?) projects in '17. -
It was a really similar experience with us for The Beast between riding in the back during the day to front row at night. Beast went from "hmm..." To "omfg insane" while Millennium went from "good" to "top 3." It's crazy how riding a coaster at night can change the experience. That's definitely a good decision to wait, even if that means just realizing it's going to be busy and getting the pass at 11. Either way, you'll have a great time! This is an interesting point. It's still definitely the case with other rides at other parks, but I noticed that even more so this visit to Cedar Point. And Millennium Force at night really is something special--it's amazing how people get so pumped still for a ride approaching 20 years old here soon enough. It's really aged well and still incredibly popular.

No mention of it on the website, maybe by September 4th they will be trying to phase it out. For your sake I sure hope so Honestly though, we tried Superman VR and it worked the first time and was actually really fun, so we came back again later to ride again and it didn't work at all, so we were allowed to walk up the flash pass line and again it didn't work. If you can get it with a short wait (less than three trains with 12-20 minute dispatches) it's fine to do once but it's a good ride without VR in the front and back seats. It's nothing mind-blowing but it's my favorite in the park along with Wild One and the finale is really fun.

Great report and pictures! Have to make it down to BGT at some point.
