Yeah, I agree, I dont think Tanya belongs on that list. Or Rebekah. And Connie, well, I just dont know about that one. But Cledus, MOST definatly.... Rob

^^ I dont think that it had anything to do with the people in New Orleans compared to the people in North Carolina. Rather, with 20-20 hindsight of what happend in New Orleans, I think that officials are playing it safe. I mean afterall, they need to get reelected right? Rob

WTF???

Ok, I did... SFNE SFGadv Dorney Park Wild Waves and Enchanted Village Knott's Berry Farm Disneyland Disney's California Adventure SFMM Geauga Lake. The season isnt over yet, and I still have plans to visit Cedar Point, and possibly SFDL. We will see. The park I enjoyed the most was SFGadv (even though KK wasnt even open yet). I just thought it was the most fun. Can anyone guess where I had season passes to this year???? Rob

There's no way you're working on ionic propulsion... Yeah, I am. I am working on puting together a Data Acquisition and control system for Hollow Cathode Swaged Heaters, which are used to 'ignite' the hollow cathode which is basically an electron emitter that ionizes the fuel into a plasma. So, I am pretty much working on both Optical Ion Thrusters, Hall effect Ion Thrusters, and Plasma Contactors (because those are the applications of Hollow Cathodes). Its part of my senior design project for school. We have a partnership with NASA Glenn Research Center in Ohio, and every year the school sends some students there to do research. If you want to hear more about it, send me a PM... Cheers! Rob "Really working for NASA" Doughty

Top Thrill Dragster Down again?
Space Freak replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Man that sucks. I'm in cleveland until octber 14th, and was going to hit up CP before I left. Already hit up Geauga lake (so that the others in my party could do the water park before it closed) and now it looks like TTD will be closed when I go visit CP. Oh well, maybe KK will be open before I go to SFGadv again when I get back home... Besides, what kind of coaster enthusiast doesnt make random road trips to ride coasters anyway? I'll just have to do it some other time... Rob "Maybe they get it fixed faster than anticipated" Doughty -

Yeah, I say Wachovia bank also... Or at least one of the financial institutions associated with Wachovia. Here are a couple of pics of my current workplace (until october). Robbo! This isnt where I work perse (no pics of my vacuum facility), but there is a HUGE hint as to where I work here... In more particular, I work with these! Any guesses as to what they are? And these! And these! I am working on these!

4-5 days at Disney? Wow, thats a long time. I spent a day at Disneyland (I know, different parks) and was ready to leave after 4 hours. Maybe i dont have any nostalgia with it as we never went when i was a kid. But then again, if your a Disney fan, maybe 4-5 days isnt that bad. I personally couldnt see myself staying there for that length of time.... I just cant see how any park can be big enough to merit a 4-5 day stay, but thats just me I guess... Rob

What classes are you taking in school?
Space Freak replied to F1shy's topic in Random, Random, Random
I am a senior in college and I go to school at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. I am taking Major Qualifying Project (MQP) which is my senior design thesis High Speed Flow (fluid velocities in the hypersonic region (mach 5 or more)) Geology (rocks for jocks) And Astrophysics... Rob -
Sure! http://www.grfx.com/brnin2k3/img0022p.htm But I was thinking of a fury (plymouth) http://www.automotive.com/used-cars/pricing/11/plymouth/fury/ Rob

Good choice! last Time i was there, and I'm pretty sure they still have it, you could get a park hopper pass to BGT, USF, and Seaworld. I dont remember if WDW was on there too, but I think it was. I would say you could probably do Seaworld and USF in a day, but USF would probably be better off as a two dayer. I never went to Disney (not a fan) nor did we make it to BGT when I was there. But if you get a chance, you should check out NASA's Kenedy Space Center also. Its about an hour drive from Orlando i do beleive, and its cool. Maybe NASA and Seaworld in the same day perhaps? Rob

Well, speaking for most of the guys here, there are mostly guys on this site... So, unless we are mostly gay, it makes it hard to meet new chickas... But dont feel bad, I dont even have a girlfriend to worry about hating coasters... Of course, I travel so often i doubt a girlfriend would last very long.... Rob

What other non-theme park boards do you read?
Space Freak replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
I vist gaming sites also. But not video games, mostly miniatures games or the like. TMP (the miniatured page) mostly... And I also visit Gothic Industrial music sites too, but I dont do any posts on those, actually, thats not true, i do sign the guest book of www.cyberage.cx often. Check it out, its a radio show that this guy does out of the University of New Mexico... 5 hour long shows, and he records em and puts em online. One show a week at a minimum... -

Roller coaster designing
Space Freak replied to Reon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, there is some civil engineering involved in roller coasters, but civil engineering deals with things that dont move so they are restricted to the actual structure of the coaster (supports etc...). Mechanical engineers would work with the train, as well as the lift system and anything else that moves. Both civil engineers and mechanical engineers use stress analysis, so both majors would be able to calculate the track design and stresses. Electrical engineers would do anything that requires electricity, so they would do lift systems, would work on the trains if they require electricity, and other things that require electricity. So just about any engineering major would be used in coaster design. The only engineering majors that i can think of that would be unlikely to be used would be nuclear engineers, and I really cant think of much for a chemical engineer. So, find what you want to do within the engineering field and chances are it can be applied to coaster design. Rob -
Roller coaster designing
Space Freak replied to Reon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Engineering. Most probably Mechanical Engineering, Engineering physics, and I am sure there is even a bit of electrical engineering. As for specific schools that have Roller Coaster Engineering majors, I doubt they exist. I go to school at Worcester Polytechnic Institue, which is an engineering school, and study Mechanical engineering. There is a fair amount of math, and physics involved, and there is always those problems that profs ive you with the roller coaster. Hope that answers your question. Other top of the line engineering schools include MIT (Massachussetts Institute of Technology), Carnegie Mellon, CalTech, CalPoly, RPI, RIT, and most state schools have good engineering programs such as UMich, UConn, and the like. Hope that helps. Unfortunatly, roller coaster engineering isnt exactly a field where there is a lot of demand, so its probably hard to get a job in that field. But good luck. I am going to school to build spacecraft.... WOOT!!! Rob -
So today I am flying from Seattle to Long Beach California on an Alaska Airlines MD-80 airplane. The last time I took this flight (back in July) the plane was coming from Spokane and was over an hour late. I hope that doesnt happen again tonight. But I get to finally leave the Pacific Northwest to start going home (even though I wont be home until October). Next tuesday I will be flying to Phoenix on a Leer Jet on Steroids type of airplane and then from Phoenix I will be flying to Cleveland on an Airbus A319. Both operated by Southwest. I had the opourtunity to fly on a Boeing 767 to Cleveland, but I prefer single aisle aircraft to twin aisle. I need to be close to a window and my luck I would get stuck in the center seat. Not to mention that it takes longer to board and unboard. So, thats my story about my travels within the next few days. 3000 miles in 3 different airplanes. Woot! Strange fortune cookies messages.
Space Freak replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Random, Random, Random
Well, maybe I am the only one that does this, but I am quite surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but there is a little trick to fortune cookies. Add the phrase "...in bed." to the end of the fortune. It makes the serious ones good, and the ones that make no sense even better. Like "Learn Chinese In bed." See? Well I got these two in the past week. "You will always be surrounded by true friends... In bed." and "Your talents will be recognized and rewarded... In bed." WOOT!
