B&M Restraints: Old vs. New
JRice92 replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Count me in for old restraints, I know this doesn't apply to a lot of you but when I marathon coasters I prefer the old ones. I'm 6 feet tall andd skinny. I've pulled marthon's on Montu & Raptor of 16 & 34 times in a row (the only thing that stopped me was the parking closing) and I would have kept on going longer. However on Banshee, after 8 times in a row I had to take a break because of the restraint pressing into my collar bone just like others have mentioned. For the record If I just ride once or twice I don't have any problem with the new restraints, but when I ride over and over consecutively that's when I start to get a little pain. -

Sweet, the coaster is what we were expecting. I'm excited that the Blue Streak midway is being expanded to the marina entrance! It's not a dead end anymore! -

Over The Shoulder Restraints. (OTSRs)
JRice92 replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's interesting to see what the opinion was 5 years ago vs. now. I've ridden both FoF's, Skyrocket, Scoripon at BGT & Goliath at SF Great America. I love the feeling of having your upper body free when I ride a coaster. I don't think traditional OTSR's are bad, but I think that the new coasted with lap bars with an ankle restraints give a lot more of a "free" feeling. The best example is Goliath where both inversions have a lot of hangtime and I found the RMC seats and restraints to be some of the most comfortable I've ever sat in. Also Premiere's updated restraints on skyrocket I also found to be really comfortable. -

Whew! Glad I am not crazy! I have been searching for photos of the pads as well, I made it as far back as photos from 2006 and Magnum still has the wheels! So at least we know the change happened before 2006! The change from plates to wheels happened either before the end of 1989 or at the start of the 1990 season. -
If that was an option i'd take it, but I believe that the simple T bars have been basically outlawed due to safety, or lack thereof. ROS had those originally and look at the mess of a restraint system they've turned them into now. From my understand it from ROS incident in New England that the state of Massachusetts banned t-bars but they're still fair game everywhere else. One thing to note, those t-bars on expedition GeForce are the newer design of t-bars. (The only coaster in the U.S. With that style t-bar is top thrill dragster). while Darien Lakes ROS has the old style t-bars (the same Millennium Force has but with those awful brackets added.) If indeed it's true they're getting new trains I hope it's the newer style t-bar. I haven't ridden Bizarro but I've only heard bad things about those restraints, and as far as standard Intamin hypers go those are the only 3 types of restraints I know of. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

That's the plan! This winter I'm planning on heading down to Orlando or Tampa to work in one of the parks there during the off season! -

I'll assume you're talking about TPR's own JRice92. Whatever they pay that guy it's not enough. Yes... Yes they do. Black and yellow, you know what it is. Thank you for the compliment coasterbill! And yes, people pull down their lap bars first all the time, almost once every other train. Our spiels are constantly evolving so we can minimize guests pulling down the lap bars first. -

Does anyone know what the theoretical capacity for Sheikra is? With the dual station the were pumping through riders on my visit earlier this year. Like others have said Sheikra runs 4 trains and loads exactly like maverick. Two trains load/unload while two trains on the course. The second train sits on a holding break until the lift is clear on Sheikra and from what I saw the line moves really fast waiting for Sheikra. Whit that set up I think Sheikra will have a way higher capacity than say Maverick or Dragster. -

Management will give out exit passes. Depending on the situation at management's discretion they will give 2+ exit passes (and maybe more) if it's a serious downtime situation. I can't speak for every ride in the park, but if you come up with an exit pass to Millennium Force we will let you sit in any seat including front seat. -
Custom Coasters International in retrospect
JRice92 replied to sirspud's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've had the pleasure of riding 9 CCI coasters with Cyclops, Zeus, Raven, Legend, & Shivering Timbers all being new for me in 2015. Like many others have said their coasters (especially The Legend) I hopped off saying "wtf just happened?!?!" Some woad coasters from other companies just jerk you around but CCI coasters have made me fall in love with some good lateral forces, which are a plenty on their coasters. I really like how their designs purposely underbanked turns to slide you to the side of the seat. Then on the flip side there was Shivering Timbers with I just rode for the first time 5 days ago and wow that airtime was great! The coaster was VERY smooth (thanks to the entire helix being retracked) and still had some good laterals again. I guess looking in retrospect I wish coasters like theirs were still being made. -

1. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by the question, but my stab in the dark is that they're checking in on the unload station to see if they're ready to advance the empty train. That's correct, the person checking seats on the back left side of the train has to wait for the unload station to be ready before we're "all clear" -

Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventure. I was expecting it to be good, but it blew away my expectations! It was a very good coaster! Such a massive lift hill! -

A little late for the party, but when I heard 8 across trains my guess is they'll have the new B&M restraints. Since they're wider they may make the train just as wide as Griffon's "old style" 10 across. -

They also mentioned there was extensive rehab over the off season that supposedly made it less uncomfortable..anyone who's ridden it this season agree that it's better than before? Nope, Mean Streak still sucks. I don't think it's that rough for a wooden coaster, I just think the layout is incredibly boring. I had way more fun riding the super rough woodies at Mt. Olympus. Oh and as to an RMC conversion others are correct. Mean Streak is literally and upscaled mirror image of Texas Giant. (In the same way Chang was a scaled up mirror image of Mantis (until MCBR)) but with that being said New Texas Giant is a huge success and I'm sure Mean Streak would be to if they converted it. -

Not even knowing all the details yet this looks like a great addition to the park. Never been here, but with Boulder Dash and now a Premiere launcher this place is on the map for must visits next year! -

Questionable coaster elements
JRice92 replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I found out from working there that the straight track is there as a removal piece if the train were to valley. There is 1 piece of straight track right there not connected to a support beam so it can be easily removed to remove a valleyed train. So those extra bars you see are where a crane could tie onto. There's also another straight piece before the 3rd overbank that works the same way. -
