  1. American Thunder vs. Boss and Screaming Eagle. Also in the same park, Boomerang Vs. Ninja and Batman in comparison to a looper. If that comparison doesn't suit your fancy, Boomerang vs. Mr. Freeze as a shuttle coaster. Both American Thunder and (sadly) Boomerang have been well received by guests. I do get what you're saying, but I think it will hold up just fine. People see more coasters and think that more is better. They will understand the differences once they ride the coasters. I could actually see it as a pretty good queue argument for a lot of guests: Which do you like better; Mystic Timbers or Beast? This park has a great line-up and this coaster just made it even better. If Kings Island ever receives a Fury-like Giga, I'll have a hard time ever going anywhere else within a 4-5 hour drive. The Ninja/Batman/Boomerang/Freeze example doesn't really work to me because you've got a sit down, and inverted, a lift hill shuttle and a launched shuttle, so they're all a little bit different. Yeah Boss and American Thunder is a pretty good example that came to mind after I posted this, but with that example how do those two rides compare in popularity to Screamin Eagle after being open for a decade. I guess that's probably a good comparison even though I have a feeling the Beast at is probably more popular at Kings Island than Screamin Eagle is at SFstl. Cornball Express and Hoosier Hurricane at Indiana Beach which is another example I thought of. I've only been to IB once but when I did Cornball Express was a walk on while Hoosier Hurricane had a decent wait even though to me Cornball is a much better ride, not really the same thing but a comparison none the less.
  2. ^From what I understand from sources that may or may not be real or credible expanding the monorial system is incredibly expensive.
  3. I agree with you from a coaster fans perspective but I am curious how well the ride will be received by the average park guest like 3 or 4 or 10 years down the road. I could see how some people might see this ride as "kinda like the Beast but way shorter/slower/not as good". Especially considering how iconic the Beast is to that park and the people who visit it on an annual basis. I may be completely and totally wrong here but it was a thought I had back when this was announced. I have thought of this as well... I think that it's a given that this coaster will give some phenomenal rides (both day and night) during the first couple years of operations. But as we know, there are a lot of wooden coasters that simply don't age well. So do you think that MT will be great for a couple of years and then turn into a rough crap-fest after 5+ years? (ala - SoB, Apocalypse, Hurler, Voyage, Mean Streak (w/o Coasterbills technique), Texas Giant (old version), Rattler (old version), etc) Or do you have confidence that this coaster will age like fine wine to where you won't want to be speed dialing the chiropractor after the first drop? (Ala - RFII, Prowler, Silver Comet, Comet, Gold Striker, etc) I'm not really talking about maintenance or how well the ride ages, personally I think it's going to be a great ride and will age just fine, but does that matter? My thought is in most cases when a park invests in a major new attraction it is usually something that is bigger/better, or a different type of experience than what is currently offered at the park. I can't really think of a past example where a new attraction was smaller/similar to an existing attraction especially when the existing attraction is something as loved by the fan base as the Beast is. This might be the first attraction I can think of that is loved by enthusiasts but maybe thought of as kinda average by the general public haha. Full disclosure, again I may be completely wrong here and the ride is a huge hit for a long time, holler back at me in like 7 years when someone knows for sure.
  4. Where did you find that image? Was it actually posted somewhere official? This is all pretty fascinating, I remember rumors a while back about some kind of potential light rail system connecting AK and the TTC but I'm guessing that they are expecting a major attendance increase at the studios after Star Wars opens so this address that area instead. This system kinda creates like a "gondola loop" around the Studios/Epcot resort area, which is pretty cool. I'd love to stay at Carribean beach and be able to hop on a gondola to Epcot or the Studios. I figured they would eventually get around to upgrading the bus system somehow, I mean with everyone on property wearing a magic band seems like there could potentially be data available to improve that system. Scan your band at the bus stop then run the buses on more direct routes based on demand instead of the loops like they utilize now, or something.
  5. ^yeah, again I agree that the experience will undoubtedly be completely different (and really good) to some people who appreciate it, but for most park guests who consider the Beast to be the gold standard in wooden roller coasters will they think of it as something different or as "like the Beast but not as good"? We'll see I guess, and again it's probably all a non issue but the Beast is a ride that a lot of people who attend Kings Island have a unique connection to, so it will be interesting to see if a ride that is different but still kinda similar is received.
  6. That's the thing, there weren't really any rules, but you had people who decided they were going to "make up" rules, and then become the police for their own made-up rules, telling other people what they can and can't do, etc, etc... I remember at one point having to shout at a group of people saying something like "FFS people, you hold a cup of water on the roller coaster. THAT'S IT!!! The idea here isn't about it being some stupid competition the idea is that you CAN'T NORMALLY DO THIS DURING THE DAY AND IT'S A FUN AND COOL THING TO DO so shut the FUUUUCK up, stop your complaining, go grab a cup of water and HAVE FUN!!!!" And then people still continued to argue over what was the right and wrong way to hold a cup of water or what "counted" towards your score, etc... In case you haven't noticed, I've pretty much "given up" on humanity, which most certainly includes idiot self-entitled insecure die-hard fact checking roller coaster nerds. We don't need them. The rest of you who can have FUN at a park without being super annoying, you're welcome to stay here and hang out! For whatever it's worth the one at SFOG was a lot of fun, until after the first drop, then it was wet and cold, but still fun. But yeah, it's all fun and games until there is an old Schwarzkopf track bolt up for grabs, then everyone turns into miserable savages.
  7. Yes and unfortunately we had to stop doing them because people forgot that it was supposed to be about "fun" and took it too seriously, created drama, problems, flighting over rules and prizes, and it was no longer worth my time and effort to do something cool when people were assholes about. Hmm...sounds familiar doesn't it? Wait there were actually rules to that? I just assumed anyone that had ever water any left over was cheating anyways.
  8. I agree with you from a coaster fans perspective but I am curious how well the ride will be received by the average park guest like 3 or 4 or 10 years down the road. 9. I'm really kinda looking forward to this project. Not just because of the coasters and the park involved but this area of the country is one that a lot of people maybe haven't been to or think of when it comes to beach vacation destinations but the whole west side of the Florida pan handle/Alabama coast is really a pretty nice area. Gives me an excuse to go back again for a long weekend sometime.
  10. Gotcha. I kind of disagree with you on the fact that it's not a crazy idea to remove it though. None of us have any information about operating costs or ridership numbers but it's such an incredibly compact ride that it seems like it would be kind of nuts to remove it unless ridership is tremendously low or operating costs are tremendously high. Could they fit something like a Free Spin or Tempesto clone there? Sure, but they could easily find another spot to put one of them too that wouldn't require them removing anything. I do understand that a lot of parks like to remove costly rides when adding new ones even when it's not really in the way of the new ride to help offset the operating costs (take Space Spiral being removed for Gatekeeper at Cedar Point for example), but I feel like this park is so landlocked and compact that they wouldn't want to remove a coaster unless it's incredibly unpopular or takes up a large amount of expansion room (I'm looking at you Boomerang). Outside of operating costs and ridership numbers, ya gotta remember that if Knott's doesn't remove Montezuma then Dorney will never get get Laser's Revenge in 2018.........
  11. For whatever it's worth I would much rather revisit a good park than visit a "new" park that has a poor reputation/coaster lineup. For example if I happened to be in the DC Metro area I would much rather make a return trip to Busch Gardens than a first visit to Six Flags America, not the best example but you get the point.
  12. 33 for me, so basically half. Fury and Tatsu are probably the only to I haven't been on that I'm really interested in, maybe Thunderbird just because its launched, love me a good launch.
  13. 41, I need to get out more. Actually it's probably more like 45 or something counting ones that have been removed/converted/etc.
  14. ^Somewhere out there I saw that the ride vehicles might hold two people per banshee or something, and the theaters look huge with multiple levels so I'm sure capacity will be sufficient. I'm probably more excited about the river journey attraction than the Flight of Passage, love me a boat ride. Somewhere on Twitter yesterday I saw a picture of the bio-luminescence stuff testing near the entrance pathway and it looked pretty incredible, even in a crappy picture taken in the daylight.
  15. For me the first drop and turnaround on Millennium Force are amazing, one of the best drops in the world, then after that the layout is just kinda boring. The two hills over to and from the island don't really feel like much of anything, same for the turn around on the island. It's not a bad ride by any means just isn't my favorite, amazing drop but the majority of the layout is just kinda boring.
  16. Ejector hill, sustained ejector hill, pops of air, floater air, sustained floater air.....
  17. I saw a story about this somewhere on line, this actually sounds like a really cool application of VR. Temporary attraction at a special event, should be pretty fun.
  18. ^False, you can never play to much Skeeball.
  19. Yeah I think the groupon was for some of the weeknight performances and it popped up a few weeks before the show played so they were probably just trying to fill some unsold seats. The theater in Jacksonville is kinda of weird, it's a pretty big room (somewhere around 3000 seats I think?) in a relatively small market that, how can I say this politely, doesn't exactly go crazy for the musical theater/the arts...... I couldn't see the balcony but the orchestra level for the Saturday matinee was pretty full, so the show seems to still be pulling good crowds 4 years or so into it's tour, so that's good. And don't get me wrong, the cast was fine, Nabalungi and Elder Cunningham were really good, but some of the other roles were weaker than what I've seen on the previous tours. I was lucky enough to see the original cast minus Gad/Rannels so I'm a little spoiled.
  20. I saw the national tour of Book of Mormon in Jacksonville on Saturday. This was my 4th time seeing the show, not the best cast I've seen but good enough. Still such an awesome production, so much fun, so many laughs. I saw Hamilton in New York in November and as hot as that show is right now I've gotta say Book of Mormon is still my favorite musical. Don't get me wrong, Hamilton is good, like really really good, but Book of Mormon is just so much fun every time.
  21. ^What this guy said. There are weird/strange/awkward people in every hobby. See crossfit/running/other health type activities. Plenty of normal people who do it for fun/exercise/friendships etc., but some that are batshit crazy about it. I won't even get into the Disney running events, but yeah.
  22. I wonder how well this did the first go round? I guess well enough to bring it back for a few extra nights. I don't have problem with it in the least, if you wanna pay that for 3 hours then by all means go for it, but I'll save my cash for the Halloween party.
  23. ^Call me crazy but I prefer Kraken to Manta by a wide margin......
  24. That's a pretty good lineup of fastpasses, Buzz does get a little bit of a line but there are usually fastpasses available for it later in the day so you should be able to make reservations for that as your 4th or 5th pass pretty easily.
