I haven't looked at the pricing yet so I had no idea single day tickets to Volcano Bay weren't available at this point in time, but that's intersting, and it will be intersting to see how that plays out. I'm interested to see how the place works out logistically, with the whole park in the structure and ride a shuttle bus to the entrance plan. Seems like a headache to me but this is Universal.

I'm still not understanding people's thoughts behind Volcano Bay being "competition" for the Disney water parks. I honestly cannot see someone staying at a Disney Resort when there are two water parks RIGHT THERE and shlepping all their water park stuff all the way over to Universal to do their water park. IMO, I've always seen the water parks as more of an "extension" to resort amenities and less of a "park" that people are going to go out of their way to visit. If you're on Universal property, you'll go to Volcano Bay. If you're on Disney property, you'll go to one of those water parks. I don't really see them being competition for each other. Yeah that's probably totally true from the perspective of the resort guests, but what about competition for Orlando locals and non-resort guests? Disney does offer a pretty reasonably priced water parks only annual pass so in my mind I guess I've always thought that the water parks maybe had a slightly higher ratio of non-resort/resort guest at the water parks than the theme parks but that may not be true at all.

It's good to see the Disney waterparks expand and this looks like a great family raft slide. It's still kinda funny to me that Blizzard Beach has added basically nothing new in the 20+ years it's been open but maybe after Volcano Bay the competition in that market segment will heat up a bit and change that.

Pandora media teasers have been making the rounds on the ABC daily shows and it all looks really really cool. There was another video from Good Mrning America that showed off a few food and beverage offerings including some funky looking cheesecake and glowing drinks. Nighttime in the section looks like it is going to be spectacular. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]

I still have yet to try a VR ride in the park but I am interested and looking forward to trying it whenever I have the opportunity. With that being said I am getting kind of tired of all of the VR advertising in everyday media, seems like "the man" is trying to shove this technology into your brain every chance it gets. Chik-Fil-A had a commercial teasing some kind of Chik-Fil-A Cow VR for goodness sake, Chik-Fil A! I don't want it, I give you $4 and change, you give me a spicy chicken plain no pickles add pepper jack cheese, end of transaction, no VR necessary!

For a last minute cleanup before the season starts that looks pretty nice to me. A small playground there would be really cool for the little ones. -
Yeah I meant I get it from the standpoint of it either being a budget cut or as part of their image shift, but I'm with you in that I'm not sure it will do anything to reverse their attendance issues. I'm sure it was frustrating that they opened Mako in a year when Orlando park attendance in general was considered to be somewhat stagnant.

Vortex at Kings Island comes to mind, I hear a lot of complaints about it being rough but it feels the same as it always has to me. Ednor at LaRonde was surprisingly decent for an SLC, not sure I'd go far as to say I "love it" but it was a pretty fun ride for the rep SLC usually get. Same thing kinda goes for most Vekoma boomerangs, the drop always catches me off guard and the roughness of them never really bothers me that much.

I just noticed this thread but the last concert I went to was last year Kanye West on his Saint Pablo Tour. Say what you want about the man but his live show was insane, the "floating stage" was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. We were planning to try and catch a second date before he went crazy and cancelled the second leg, but I'll gladly pay money to see this man perform live again sometime. Here are some crappy iphone photos, it's weird the whole set up looks smaller in the pictures than it felt live.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I remember waiting like 5 hours or something for Outer Limits on it's opening day back in 1996 , I guess crazy lines for new attractions is nothing new. -
Not to be straight up rude...but it's a RollerSkater with a good but short Dark Ride Section. Legoland did it first and I can think of at least 20 more interesting Disney attractions. Great addition but "Best Attraction Ever" is a mega-stretch. A mega stretch is thinking the Dragon at Legoland is anywhere in the same world as Seven Dwarfs Minetrain. It's not my favorite attraction at Disney, or the most technologically advanced or thrilling but I'd bet if you did some kind of random poll of all the WDW resort guests (who actually got on it) you'd probably find more people who say that was their favorite attraction of the trip.
-
Yeah, I'm slowly starting to think the the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train might be the best attraction Disney has ever built. Seriously it's the perfect "coaster" ride for smaller kids and is still really fun for adults, the indoor animations are amazing, and it's based on an IP that is 80 years. Considering how popular that ride is with modern audiences based on the age of the movie it's really kinda of incredible. The ole end of the day worn out melt down, been there, I know your pain. Sounds like a great day otherwise.

Oh okay, thanks that makes sense. I read "equity" and was thinking something to do with profits from the shows or something, but that makes sense.

Man I was at Magic Kingdom (I know completely different resort/coast) last Saturday and it rained for a good couple of hours in the middle of the day as we were arriving and I thought "yeah the rain might keep the crowds down a bit".......nope, that place was slammed. 45 minutes min. for practically everything between 3 and 8 while we were there. Even the people mover line was stretched back to the space mountain entrance.
-
I know a good bit of the music from Pippin and know basically nothing about the show, but I have always wanted to check it out. Sounds like fun. Also, just curious but what does "Non-equity, fully licensed" mean? I did a google search and could only find message board stuff with people arguing about unions and stuff. Probably some kind of Broadway version of the Kings Dominion thread.

Anybody else ridden The Voyage at night? Personally my absolute favorite night rides on any coaster. Voyage at night was always pretty good, I haven't been back since they opened Thunderbird so not sure if the light from that attraction area has changed the experience or not. Also, a sneaky good night ride (while it was still tolerable a few eyars after opening) was Hades, that tunnel under the parking is dark during the day but entirely different at night. Beast is still my favorite. -

I agree with you, but I also firmly believe that non-coaster enthusiasts in SE Ohio who visit Kings Island on the reg absolutely love the Beast with a passion unlike most all other coasters at all other parks so it will be interesting to see if they care about a new wooden coaster as much as their old favorite. And again, I'm not knockin Mystic Timbers at all, I think it's gonna be freakin great, hopefully 10 years from now everyone else will to.
