  1. Not always. Some (if not all) Arrows are backwards from what seems normal or sensible. For instance, our Corkscrew train must be chained up at night because when we shut off the compressors the brakes will open. PTC fin brakes require air to open and default closed.
  2. Well I'm sure the person on the phone was at least slightly flustered that the blind person wanted to know where to see the fireworks show. Not to be insensitive, but really? They could have told her just about anywhere in the park, and it wouldn't make a difference. And I highly doubt the person on the phone was trying to imply that the best place for a person with a disability watch from outside the park, only that they might find less crowds there.
  3. In their defense, RMC has had good success in the past assembling large steel coasters (and that's pretty much what this part of Goliath is). And a GIB is slighting more complicated than this lift hill.
  4. (High school Junior) When a teacher decides you're lazy, and has decided he doesn't want to teach you at all. It's his JOB. His only purpose at the school at the time was to teach his students. And he picked his favorites and who he disliked, and if he liked you, you might actually get help. If he didn't like you, then may the odds be ever in your favor.
  5. Okay. Someone else said Ka still said Memorial Day. But I'd trust signs in the park over the website any day.
  6. Kingda Ka could be open before Zumanjaro. It isn't entirely inconceivable that once they're finished working on the tower itself they'd open Ka and continue testing.
  7. Training has nothing to do with it if the employee has a bad attitude.
  8. You've got effectively every kind of coaster in a park that focuses completely on thrill rides, not trying to create experiences the likes of Holiday World or really any CF park or Disney... and people still complain about it.
  9. "I don't know" is such a crappy answer. "Technical difficulties", "unforeseen circumstances", "inclement weather", (and my least favorite) "Bio cleanup" are all much better ways to phrase it. Even if you don't know. And it sucks to hear, but it really really sucks to have to tell guests. But must be done.
  10. It depends. I'm sure some are designed in house and manufactured elsewhere. Some might even be completely hired out. I know some parks design and build entirely in house.
  11. At least on PTC trains with two rows, the rear seats have slightly longer seat belts due to the way they are attached. I've heard of that small change being enough for some people.
  12. $#!t happens. Many times there's "incidents" that the GP doesn't see. Like sensor failures causing the ride to tear itself apart and need new (rare) lift motors to be made. Or just plain old equipment showing it's age. Trust me, we hate it too. Not only do we now have to deal with people complaining that it isn't open, but everyone who would work that ride are now either not working, or usually standing out front saying it's closed.
  13. I thought they came from Dippin' Dots stands?
  14. Why would we assume it's a B&M at Cedar Point while we're in the Cedar Point discussion thread?
  15. If you height check in the station then why bother at all with checking height at the entrance. If your entrance person who's supposed to measure is letting people slip by then they're doing their job wrong. Either you measure everyone or you don't.
  16. Sounds like The Beast just needs graphite.
  17. I respectfully disagree. "This giant huge" makes no more sense than "this Goliath huge". Had it been "This Huge Goliath" it would still allow the play on words and wouldn't sound illiterate.
  18. Some of us are still sadly in the off season. Wild speculation based off unscientific YouTube observations keeps us saneĀ®. Although considering GIBs go backwards, the aerodynamics are probably not as important as we'd think. It's "aerodynamic" forward and a large sail backwards. Those trains are the same sail in either direction.
  19. You remember seeing them working in the snow, right? Rain's not likely a problem.
  20. The bigger the seat, the greater the minimum "size" to be properly restrained. Seats can only hold a certain range of body proportions. Or add extra weight and complexity to add more flexibility to the restraint systems.
  21. To me it looks like it isn't going as fast when it goes up Tower 2. On Aftershock videos the last car is about level with the platform halfway up the tower. In the Goliath video it looks like car 7 is just reaching the platform.
  22. I'd say you're both right, speaking as an Op who's had good and bad trainings, and watched a lot of trainings with picky, bitchy, new rides. We can get efficient at some point in our time at the ride. If you've got good training and are comfortable at the ride moving quickly, then it doesn't take very long at all to be efficient. If you have bad training, you can still learn to be quick, it just might take longer. Now, I will say that I would expect the crew to be at Banshee (at least on opening day) to be returners who have shown they can move quickly and who hopefully have gotten past the "Guests are scary" phase, but it is still a new ride. SOP's were/are still most likely being finalized, and the Ops are probably still learning the quirks of the ride. You can do mock cycles all you want, putting people in the seats who don't regularly ride and dealing with how slow some people move, you're bound to slow down a little.
