I like designated smoking areas. And when I see people in the park I'll ask them to please go to a smoking area, or put out the cigarette. It drives me crazy to see or smell people smoking in line though. Especially at a wooden coaster. As far as e-cigs, personally, I find it annoying when people stand in the middle of a crowded station smoking their e-cig. Outside of smoking areas off to the side of a path doesn't bother me as much, but in a crowded area I think it's rude. And I know that we get guests who complain about e-cigs in the station.

Weird Coaster Facts

Not a coaster, but kinda entertaining: Sandbags were used to test SpinCycle. But, remember that ride restraints are designed to hold a person with arms and legs that keep you from falling through the restraint. Sandbags do not generally have arms and legs. You can imagine what happened. And if you watch the POV video posted by Silverwood, you can see Timber Terror got a new piece of railing on one side. -

I completely agree. Near the top of the console as well. We aren't always standing behind the console and I'd like it to be readily accessible. And we don't really have any "punishment" for accidental E-Stops, regardless of what maintenance would like to think. There are a few situations where an E-Stop can actually cause more damage to the ride or cause problems unloading where it isn't the desired course of action. Two of our E-Stops have little glass covers for the secondary E-stops that say "Break Glass to Engage". Has anyone on here ever had to break the glass on a button like that? -

Same here. Really like the Gatekeeper one. Tell me about it. Not only do you have to reach over it, it's in a perfect spot for your belt buckle to hit it if you lean forward too far. And speaking of accidental E-Stops, the unfortunate placement is definitely a contributing factor. My first day, on my first ride, on my first cycle, on the first day of the season, I accidentally E-Stoped Timber Terror as the train was going up the lift hill. And we can't start the lift hill without calling maintenance down. Awesome... -

Out of curiosity... For any of these, if there was a need to (for instance) lock out the final brake run, so a train can't enter the station, is there a procedure for that or is it just not done? For the coasters I've ran, we have some metal boxes that we use to cover the brake release buttons to keep someone from pressing either of them, that is then locked to the face of the console. Are we the only people that do anything like that? -
Russia to build Vekoma GIB in Sochi
Comeagain? replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, it's pretty particular about the temperature. 60 degrees (F) is about as low as it will go (at least in the morning). When it (or more specifically the wheels) get too cold, the train won't go as fast, and may have issues clearing the cobra roll. Sometimes to try and get the ride open when it's cooler, they actually drop the train from about halfway up the tower and have it purposefully valley out in the station in order to warm it up without risking it getting stuck somewhere else. In the evening after running all day it usually does better. I don't think I've ever seen it close early because it was too cold, unless there was also high winds or rain. -

I was one of the lucky ones to listen to a Trabant fairly regularly. And we've all got the Banjos every day. I'm sure it will be easy to tune it out after a few cycle. It's only a problem if you let it bug you. Hopefully. It looks like it. Seems like the park is getting along with SBF VISA. -

Yep. Silverwoods is 3' narrow gauge. And in 2015 will celebrate the train engines 100th anniversary. -

Deja Vu/Afterschock also has secondary panels I dot have pictures of. But they're pretty simple. Two buttons, a red Estop and a green push button. At the panel closest to the console, they're "dispatch" button locks the operators gate. At the other end of the station it locks the ops gate and then holding it allows the cycle to start. -

At Silverwood, we close cable driven rides when the rain starts to be noticeable on the pavement. Tire driven are closed when it begins to effect the ride cycle. Our coasters don't use drive tires so we can stay open in just about anything. -

I love that. I think GIBs in general look pretty awesome. Especially if there's a train (not stuck) on either tower. -

Other than Aftershock, Silverwood runs their coasters in almost any temperature, as long as it still runs correctly. -

I think we're saying (or your saying and I'm trying I say) the same thing. On other inverts, the lead car with the "special connection" has seats. Alpengeist doesn't, and has a extra row of seats to still have 8 total rows of seats. So the question becomes "Why Alpengeist?" To which we can speculate. I don't think it necessarily is for theming. I'd say it's more likely to do with the weight of the train. -

But that would mean that the first and second car would remain at the same angle relative to each other. But from the pictures they don't. -
Weird Coaster Facts

Because each row of seats only has one "set" of wheels. Each row is supported by its own wheels and the row in front of it. Because there is no row in front of the first row (duh...) there needs to be something to keep the first car level with the track.. -

I'm surprised a little no one had said anything about this. In RollerCoasterAlley.com's podcast interview with Gary Norton, the parks owner Mr. Norton talks very briefly about new things coming to Silverwood. The interesting tidbit: Just something to think about.
