  1. Slightly fun fact about Buzz Bars (at least on Timber Terror at Silverwood). They aren't actually supposed to buzz. They should only make the cur-chunk sound when locking or unlocking. The buzz comes from the operator holding the button down too long.
  2. Because it relies very heavily on a small spring behaving. And they're susceptible to dirt based on the openings to grease them. They also rely on a small solenoid that doesn't like too much pressure or it won't open. Basically, because they lock up or down they are more complicated than a mechanical ratcheting system. Although a mechanical single position lap bar would be easy to engineer.
  3. Yes we do. We're Cast Members wearing "costumes". But that's about as far as it goes. And even then it's used inconsistently.
  4. Silverwood could use a few more coasters, and has had great success with relocated rides. They're also planning a major expansion next year.
  5. What rule? For where? I've never heard of such a thing, and I can't think of any single governing body that has control over the entire planet.
  6. Not quite true. Superman: Ultimate Flight at SFOG has a lowering platform. Photos curtesy of RCBD. I'm not sure about any others
  7. If they can't explain why the shirt is offensive, why can't he wear it? I'm sure someone saw it and originally thought it was some kind of innuendo, then realized it wasn't but didn't want to admit it.
  8. For the non-Club TPR members who can't see that thread, there's about 65 people on the list.
  9. The dragster live video camera is fun! Watch the track shake back and forth in a Lightning Run-esque manner!
  10. I'm about 50 minutes from my home park and employer, Silverwood.
  11. Raven explained it a few pages ago. Early in the season they run 6 and once it gets warmer and busier they add a seventh.
  12. Pretty much anyone here should realize that coasters and rides often open late and can have extensive downtown early in their lifetimes. Planning trips around original opening dates is a dangerous game. Especially if you're traveling.
  13. Superman the Escape AND Lex Luther ran when I was at SFMM. And I'm talking BOTH sides of Superman. Don't know about Lex though. There's videos on YouTube of both Superman and Both Lex Luthars running in sync with each other.
  14. If you mean "do we see something resembling the footers for a small helix?" Then yes. If you mean something resembling the coaster Helix, no. I'd say that's very hasty wishful thinking. Not that I think you're wrong at all. Just don't think we're really going to get anywhere guessing like that.
  15. ARM towers are as simple as they come. Hoist to the top, the hook the seats hang from pushes against the top of the tower, releasing the car. Free fall ~90', hitting magnetic brakes about 30' up. Coast slowly to the platform. The last foot controlled by hydraulics to avoid a sudden stop. Purely gravity powered. But practically no friction coming down. What feels like forever but is actually about 2 seconds of free fall. Oh, and the fair trailer mounted ones aren't nearly as awesome as the park models. Sorry.
  16. I hate when manufacturers do that. Is it really that hard to have the point the sensor says it's okay to run at the same point the restraint is locked?
  17. Raven, this page looks awesome! I love that it's not Flash based!
