Missed Credits: Coasters you COULD have...
VF15 replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I was at Islands of Adventure, I didn't ride The Incredible Hulk . Of course, this was before I was an enthusiast. At Six Flags Great America, I didn't get to ride Whizzer, Demon, and Viper because I ran out of time. I will likely be going back this year, so I can pick up those credits then in addition to Goliath. At Disneyland, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was closed during my visit. -

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
VF15 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Looks great. I'm excited to see what the finished project will look like this May. Pipe Scream at Cedar Point has been going up relatively fast, so I'd expect Northern Lights to do the same. Also, this is kind of an "out-of-the-blue" topic, but everyone on here seems to want to have Excalibur go soon to make room for a new coaster in 2016 or beyond. Am I the only one that would be sad to see Excalibur go? I think it is the most underrated coaster at Valleyfair. It has some good positive G's in some spots, and it also has once nice pop of ejector air. Excalibur is fairly unique, as very few other models of this coaster type exist. While it isn't smooth as glass, I don't think it's nearly as rough as everyone makes it out to be. Also, whenever all the other coasters have 45+ minute waits, I know I can go to Excalibur and wait no more than 5 minutes. However, two things I dislike about it are that it's relatively short (about 30 seconds from drop to brake run), and that it's closed during ValleyScare. If Valleyfair does end up removing Excalibur for a new coaster, they would probably have to buy some extra land near it because I have a hard time believing that even a small B&M could fit in that area. Just my thoughts... Picture from Wikipedia -

^ Yeah, decade anniversaries don't really have any effect on when a park decides to build new coasters. Wild Thing did open for Valleyfair's 20th anniversary, but for the most part, the year makes no difference. Still, I'd say that 2016 is a year where a new coaster for Valleyfair is definitely possible. -
B&M vs Intamin
VF15 replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I want to say B&M, but honestly, their coasters nowadays just aren't as interesting as they used to be. Intamin, on the other hand, has really been innovating and pushing the limits of roller coasters. Also, Intamins in general are a lot more forceful than B&Ms, so I'm going with Intamin. -

As much as I want a new coaster, we need a water park expansion more than that right now. Valleyfair has probably the worst water park in the Cedar Fair chain. The last time it got new slides was in the 90's, so I think it's really been neglected. Soak City did get a wave pool in 2009, but still... -

I'm sure some of you have seen this, but I saw a 2015 Soak City rumor on Screamscape a while ago: A waterslide expansion package is expected to come to Valleyfair in 2015 from White Water West. This could be similar to the Snake Pit slide package going into Dorney Park in 2014 or the one added to Worlds of Fun in 2013. -
The Next Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom?
VF15 replied to CPSFMMCW's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd say Michigan's Adventure. They only have one good coaster (Shivering Timbers), a lackluster collection of flat rides, and a very short operating season (Late May to weekend after Labor Day). This is by far Cedar Fair's most neglected park, and unless they give them something good soon, I don't see Michigan's Adventure going anywhere. -
Airtime or Forcefulness?
VF15 replied to tarheel1231's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm probably the only one that's going to choose forcefulness over airtime. Don't get me wrong, I like good airtime, but for me, strong g-forces seem to put the biggest smile on my face. -
When I was in 8th grade, we were on a class trip at Islands of Adventure. My friends wanted me to go on Dragon Challenge (Chinese Fireball) with them when they went for the second time. I had chickened out the first time, and they were really pressuring me to go with them. Eventually, I gave in, and when we were waiting in line, I was literally flipping out. I was just repeatedly asking stuff like: "Is it scary?", and "Are we going to die?" As we were going up the lift hill, the flipping out reached a climax. By the time we hit the brake run, I was in love with the ride, and I ended up riding it three more times. After all of that, I knew that I was obsessed. Now that I consider myself an enthusiast, I look back on that trip and regret not riding the Incredible Hulk. I'm sure that a lot of us have similar stories (going from being terrified of coasters to not getting enough of them), but exactly how did it happen to you? P.S.: Sorry if this is a duplicate. Feel free to merge it.

B&M Wing Rider Coasters - Love or Hate?
VF15 replied to jfruge's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think it depends on where you sit. I rode X-Flight in the last row, and it was relatively intense. Not "out-of-this-world" intense, but still intense enough to make it a very fun ride. X-Flight is the only one I've been on, so I can't exactly speak for every wing rider, but I'm guessing the back is generally more intense. -

You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....
VF15 replied to PCW_Nut's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
-You spend the offseason counting down the days until opening day. -You spend at least half of your free time on amusement park-related websites. -When at amusement parks with non-enthusiast friends, you have to be careful about concealing your coaster geekiness. -
I understand you get upset when a ride is down for mechanical reasons, but before you make a claim that no one is working on a ride, understand how complex rides can be. There are computer and control rooms underneath stations or hidden in places hard to see where often times the source of the problem lies. Also, in many cases a park might be waiting on an expensive part that is not something you don't routinely keep in stock. Parks don't want to have down rides but sometimes things happen out of their control, even our punching bag park chains such as Six Flags. Yeah, I guess you're right about that. Let's just say that I'm disappointed when rides are closed in general.
-
-Line jumpers. Enough said. -Expensive food. $8 for french fries at Six Flags Great America is insane. -No single rider lines. On a busy day, watching trains leave the station with empty seats really bothers me. -Extra-charge attractions. Unless it's something like a skycoaster, they are annoying. -You're about to get on the ride, and it breaks down. -Operating under maximum capacity on busy days. -Not allowing re-rides when the line is empty. -When rides are closed due to routine maintenance, but no one is working on the ride. -Waiting in a long line for a mediocre coaster.
-
Florida - Kraken (SeaWorld Orlando) Illinois - X-Flight (Six Flags Great America) Missouri - Thunderation (Silver Dollar City) (When I was little.) Minnesota - Renegade (Valleyfair) California - California Screamin' (Disney California Adventure) (Didn't go to SFMM or KBF.) Yeah, it's kind of small, but I'm expecting it to increase this year.

Saw on Valleyfair's website that Dinosaurs Alive will be free this year for Gold and Platinum season passholders. I guess that's nice, but in my opinion, it should be free to everyone. It just isn't that great of an attraction to justify $5 per person. -

If that is the case, then I guess we have nothing to worry about. Despite that, it still feels a little embarrassing because Banshee is already finished with track construction, and this area still doesn't look like much. -

^ Yeah, I agree. It will we cool to see Valleyfair at night this year with all of the lighting improvements. On the other hand, I'm getting a little annoyed with the fact that Route 76 hasn't made much progress. I understand that it has been a harsh winter, but opening weekend is just over three months away, and if they don't pick up the pace, I don't see how they will get finished in time. -

I noticed on the Dining Section of Valleyfair's website that they are getting a new Auntie Anne's pretzel stand near the carousel, so that's nice. I also noticed that Stadium Bar and Grill isn't on the list anymore. Maybe a retheming?
