  1. Gee, stuff like this really seems to be a waste to me... http://www.denenapoints.com/reports/danger-in-the-park-your-guide-to-keeping-your-kids-safe-on-a-roller-coaster.cfm
  2. ugh, like valley fair needs another performance stage, those people just make me feel uncomfortable Yeah, I can't see why Valleyfair would need another stage, especially since the amphitheater has been dormant for the past few years. The amphitheater itself isn't a great place for live performances because it is right near the Wild Thing turnaround, and the loud WT trains rushing by would be distracting for performers and the audience. If and when Valleyfair does away with the amphitheater, I think that it would be the perfect place for a new thrilling flat ride, or perhaps they could put the queue and station for a new coaster there, and then have the ride take place over the midways.
  3. 1) Valleyfair 2) Nickelodeon Universe 3) Adventureland
  4. I really hope that the volleyball nets are just here for this year. Soak City really needs a better expansion than that. They need some thrilling new water slides. Hurricane Falls is fun, but only for a few rides, and while the drop on Panic Falls Speed Slides is intense, the headbanging on the landing is just awful. If the Volleyball courts are here to stay for a while, maybe it could mean that 2015 might be our year for a new coaster. Then again, I really shouldn't get my hopes up.
  5. Neither is Worlds of Fun and they got Patriot... Worlds of Fun is slightly ahead of Valleyfair in terms of revenue, and the market was a lot better back in 2006 when Patriot was built for what seems now a measly $14mil. We could see a B&M similar to Patriot built at Valleyfair, but with today's coaster prices, looking around anywhere from $16-18 million, that's a lot of capital for Valleyfair to support for being the 2nd smallest park in the chain. I got the $16-18 million by the way from the price of OzIris, which was €12 million for the ride alone, which is about equal to $16.4 million and OzIris is smaller than Patriot. I'd have to guess around $10-12 million for a brand new Vekoma SLC, which would fit a lot better in Valleyfair's capital range. Hard to know the price for a new SLC because the recent "new" ones have been relocated and the only new one built recently is the one going up in Iraq. Patriot cost $14 million, but so did Wild Thing (1996), and in 2014 dollars, that's almost $21 million. Honestly, I do think a B&M (especially an invert) is definitely a possiblility for Valleyfair. They should just be patient and just wait longer to gain more capital to get a quality B&M because I'd rather wait two or three years and get an awesome B&M than get a cheap 'okay' coaster next year. Valleyfair really needs a kick-butt ride that will make the GP want to visit Valleyfair more than once a year. Also, B&M has been Cedar Fair's go-to manufacturer for steel coasters for the past several years, and, once again, CF has never directly bought a new SLC, so I'd say a B&M is much more likely to happen than an SLC. In other news, Valleyfair just released the 2014 park map...
  6. Did you forget about Flight Deck at Canada's Wonderland? I'm sure the GP would love an SLC. " The one with the loop de loops upside down is my favorite!" Whoops. I totally forgot about Flight Deck. Thanks.
  7. This is a little off-topic, but I've heard from some people in various places that they think that Valleyfair's next coaster will be a Vekoma SLC. That is not going to happen. Cedar Fair makes quality investments, and they know that SLC's aren't great. The only two SLCs in the Cedar Fair chain are Thunderhawk at Michigan's Adventure, and Flight Deck at Canada's Wonderlandand. MA got Thunderhawk because it was relocated from Geauga Lake after it closed, where it was bought during it's Six Flags era, and Flight Deck was received during the Cedar Fair buyout of the Paramount parks. Basically, Cedar Fair has never directly purchased an SLC. So, thankfully, I highly doubt Valleyfair will receive an SLC. Also, here's a picture of the Planet Snoopy entrance after last night's snowstorm.
  8. I think it's because Six Flags is viewed as the Walmart or the Spirit Airlines of the amusement park industry. It looks good on the outside, but when you get there, it's disappointing. Everyone that plans on going to a Six Flags park believes that they will have a great day, and that they'll be able to ride everything they want, but when they get there and see the high food prices, rude employees, and ungodly long wait times, they realize that their original beliefs are far from the truth. I must admit, on my first visit to a Six Flags park (Great America), I expected a smooth experience, but now I've learned my lesson. Train wrapping, annoying queue line videos, and generally subpar facilities hurt the experience more. I think that Cedar Fair parks are much better because they actually care about customer satisfaction and and a good experience. For example, my home park (Valleyfair) has relatively nice employees, a much nicer park environment, and much shorter wait times (well, probably that's because VF isn't as well as some other parks out there). Overall, I'll take Cedar Fair over Six Flags any day of the week.
  9. I think it will just be general improvements because if they were getting new slides or another new attraction, they would have announced it by now. Besides, Screamscape has already rumored new slides for 2015.
  10. Whenever MA gets a new coaster, I think it should be a launched coaster, as it would really bring a new and unique experience there. I've felt that an Intamin Impulse Coaster would be a good choice because it is relatively inexpensive, thrilling and fun, and doesn't take up a lot of space, but since the last Impulse Coaster was built in 2003 (11 years ago), I'm not really confident that it would happen. I saw that Full Throttle at SFMM only cost $6 million, so something like that from Premier Rides might not be out of the question. As rcoaster10 said, something like Verbolten would also be cool. Michigan's Adventure is one of two Cedar Fair parks without some sort of a B&M (the other being Valleyfair), so I think that's what a lot of peoples' first choice would be, but B&M's are relatively expensive, and with MA's history of going on the cheap side for new rides, I unfortunately don't think that a B&M will happen here anytime soon.
  11. I saw these rumors on Screamscape. They've been there for a while, but here it is... The new ST trains would be a cool idea, but as for the second rumor, MA really needs to stop focusing so much on their water park, as they already have enough there. I've never been to Michigan's Adventure, but from what I've read over the internet, it seems to be disappointing for a Cedar Fair park.
  12. Though the second example can be an honest mistake, I guess I could see why you'd have a problem with these things... ...but I have no idea why you'd have a problem with these things. The fact is, your favorite coaster is always a matter of opinion. If someone likes coasters with a lot of loops, then who are you to tell them that another coaster is better? That's unbelievably arrogant. For example, my girlfriend who has now been on about 150 coasters thanks to me dragging her to a ton of parks doesn't always agree with the "enthusiast opinion" of what rides she's supposed to like. She thinks Gatekeeper is the greatest coaster ever built. She likes it better than El Toro, Millennium Force, Intimidator 305, Maverick, Kumba, Bizarro, Phoenix and obviously many others. I don't agree with her ranking at all, but at the same time I don't have to because it's a matter of opinion. If riding Gatekeeper makes her really happy then that's awesome! When enthusiasts take issue with other people's opinions on coasters on coasters and imply that they're "wrong" for thinking certain coasters are better than others then they're taking a hobby that's supposed to be fun way too seriously. Yeah, you're right. I guess I was somewhat rude to the GP in that aspect. They are entitled to their opinion. However, there are plenty of other users on TPR that would get annoyed if someone said their favorite coaster was something like an SLC or an Arrow Corkscrew, so it's not fair to just blame me.
  13. -You call a park to ask if a ride is running on a certain day. -You love listening to first-timers' reactions to coasters. -You have dreams about roller coasters. -You prefer a vacation at an amusement park over the Bahamas or Hawaii
  14. Tallest steel coaster: Wild Thing (Valleyfair) Tallest wooden coaster: American Eagle (SFGAm) Gee, I need to get out to more parks...
  15. Yeah, there will be more people in that area, but I think that the newer rides in that area will be more popular since Route 76 is meant to be a family area, whereas Steel Venom is an intense thrill ride. I still think that SV will have decent ridership this year.
  16. I don't hate the General Public. Most of them are relatively nice, and follow the rules. I just hate certain people in the GP, including: -people that think that wooden coasters (and roller coasters in general) are unsafe. -people that think that since they traveled so far and paid so many dollars to get in, they should get special treatment. -people that make false and unreasonable claims about coasters ("I fell out of the loop, landed back in my seat, and survived.") -people that think that the world's best coasters are the tallest and fastest by default. -people that think a ride is bad because it has no "loop-de-loops". -people that slow things down by breaking rules (trying to bring their child that's not tall enough on a big coaster). Yeah, a few bad apples can make a day at amusement park more miserable, but without them, we would not have amusement parks, so I guess we should be at least somewhat thankful for them.
  17. Yeah, I agree that seeing a new a Steel Venom line will be interesting. If you ask me, they should make this new line shorter than the old one because even on busy days, the line was never used to it's full extent. I feel like SV has been unpopular recently because it was in an isolated area of the park, and because it is intimidating to a good part of the GP. For example, last year, Valleyfair asked on Facebook what your favorite seat on Steel Venon is, and at least 40% of commenters said "the bench next to it."
  18. ^ It's about time. I'd expect it to be ready in time for opening day since Disk'O coasters don't take too long to get ready (Pipe Scream at CP has been going up relatively fast). Also, would anyone know if they have started moving Scrambler and Tilt-a-Whirl over to R76? I wouldn't know because it isn't visible on the webcam, and I haven't been able to drive by Valleyfair lately since I don't live in the metro area.
  19. This list from Mensa (a high-IQ society) of the top 10 amusement parks in America is an absolute joke. How on Earth is Adventureland better than Cedar Point? I had never heard of Carousel Gardens before until I saw this, and does not look at all better than those other parks. This is about as "GP" as it gets...
  20. The webcam has moved to the right a little bit. Not much has changed, especially on the AA station. Still, with spring coming, and the Northern Lights track arriving soon, I'd expect more progress to made soon.
  21. At first, I thought that Robb might be trying to trick us, and that it would end up being a kiddie coaster, but the video looks intense, and there's no way that a park would announce a kiddie coaster two years in advance. I'm guessing it's either a record breaking drop tower, or a coaster with a 90 degree drop, and fire will be involved in some way.
  22. I've been on here for a few months but haven't really introduced myself. I don't want give away anything too personal, but I live in Minnesota, and my home park is Valleyfair. My favorite roller coaster is X-Flight at Six Flags Great America. You're probably surprised at my favorite coaster pick, but a) I haven't been to too many amusement parks, and b) I seem to like wing coasters more than most enthusiasts seem to. So far, I haven't been on any coasters that enthusiasts seem to worship (Millennium Force, Intimidator 305, X2, El Toro, etc.), but I still enjoy roller coasters just as much as the rest of you. My favorite roller coaster sensation is strong positive G's, but ejector airtime is in a close second. My favorite roller coaster inversion is the pretzel loop, obviously because I love positive G's. My favorite manufacturer is Intamin. My credit count is about 30 right now, but I expect that to grow in the near future. Aside from roller coasters, I play the trumpet, love watching movies/TV, and am a weather enthusiast. Thanks, bye.
  23. This is just a mobile game, but still, it looks disappointing for a game with the RCT label. If they make a PC version of RCT4, it had better be something great.
  24. You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If.... -at work or school, you often lose attention and daydream about coasters. -when your family wants to go on vacation somewhere, all you can think about are nearby amusement parks. -you hate getting up early for most things, but will gladly wake up early to go to a park. -you ride the Wacky Worm at the county fair just to get the credit. -you hate when people in line say stuff like "How many people have died on this?" or "Corkscrew is the world's tallest ride!" -you can go on a coaster right after eating a meal and not vomit. -you can't ride one ride more than two times in a row, or else people will realize you're obsessed. -you are reading this forum.
