Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
VF15 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've always thought that a coaster at Valleyfair that travels over the midways would be a cool idea. It would be similar to how Wild Thing's figure-8 crosses over the walkway to soon-to-be Route 76, but much more of the ride would take place over the midways. Pespi Orange Streak at Nickelodeon Universe is a good example of this. It would also be cool if they could do something Gatekeeper-like and have a coaster travel over the entrance. -

Yeah, you're probably right. While I personally like Excalibur more than Corkscrew and High Roller, if I had to choose a coaster that has to go, it would likely be Excalibur because removing it would probably be the smartest decision. I've heard some people say that Corkscrew should be the coaster to go, but there are several reasons why it probably isn't: it was just repainted a few years ago, it is the park's only inverting coaster, it fits in well with Planet Snoopy, and it honestly isn't a bad ride because it doesn't have as much as similar coasters. Also, there really isn't any way to fit in a decent sized coaster in Corkscrew's area. I would also say that about Excalibur, but I believe the park owns more land beyond that area. -

You seriously would want an SLC or a Boomerang over a flying coaster? I'd rather ride a relatively low-force B&M flyer than get my head banged up on a Vekoma. I don't think that Valleyfair will get anything from Vekoma because with the exception of Boomerang at Worlds of Fun, all Cedar Fair Vekomas we're acquired in park buyouts, and I believe that Cedar Fair is aware that Vekoma coasters are not the best. Although, I don't think a B&M flyer is likely either for reasons I listed earlier. -

So, last October I was talking with Valleyfair's GM Dave Frazier. he asked me if HydroBlaster should be part of the main park or the water park. I told him the waterpark. There was no option for just removing it outright. I believe that 2015 will see a great new water park addition as well as the return of HydroBlaster in its new home! What do you think? Come to think of it, that may not be a bad idea. If they haven't completely sent Hydroblaster to the junkyard yet, I think that moving it to Soak City might do it some good. I've always felt that Hydroblaster was a bit out of place being in the main park, so moving it into the waterpark would make much more sense. As for where it could go, I think it could be placed in the old IMAX spot, assuming that the volleyball courts are just a one-year thing. Otherwise, I don't know where it would go. -

I think that a flying coaster at Valleyfair might be fun, but only if it has a pretzel loop because the positive G's in pretzel loops are absolutely insane. Otherwise, it would just be a boring, low-force ride that Valleyfair doesn't need. Although, I don't think a flying coaster is going to happen because Cedar Fair has yet to build a B&M flyer, and it's been a while since the last B&M flyer was built. -

Okay, maybe not many, but there is still a decent amount of GPs that know whether or not a ride is smooth or rough. -

Agreed. I know that Valleyfair isn't the kind of park that will receive a Banshee or a Gatekeeper, but I don't think that they would stoop down to the level of a Vekoma SLC, like some people think. On the topic of an SLC, some people say that it would satisfy the GP because they like coasters with lots of "loop-de-loops", but I think they are sensitive to roughness too because, for example, if a park posts a picture of it's SLC on it's Facebook page, there are many comments along the lines of "This ride hurts your head" or "I hate this ride", so I don't think the GP would end up liking an SLC in the long run. -

So I guess it isn't impossible to have a giga coaster at VF, but that would be very unlikely because it's too far outside Valleyfair's budget, and I think that Cedar Fair would send a giga coaster to other parks like Carowinds, Kings Island, or Knott's Berry Farm long before Valleyfair. Besides, VF's next coaster seriously needs some inversions. While Corkscrew is a decent ride for what it is, it's a bit embarrassing that it's our only inverting coaster. I doubt that we would get something from Premier Rides because B&M has been Cedar Fair's go-to manufacturer for steel coasters in recent years, but then again, there's a first time for everything, and Valleyfair did receive Cedar Fair's first Morgan and first GCI, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. -
I hate it when the weather shuts rides down. I hate waiting in an hour-long line, about to be boarding the ride, and then having it shut down because of a light drizzle. If it's a thunderstorm, I'd understand, but seriously, a light drizzle won't hurt anyone. I agree that the people that take your picture when you walk in are annoying. When I walk through the gates, I want to get right to the rides, but the picture people just slow that down. As a whole, I don't mind school groups as much as most seem to, but when I'm walking towards a ride and see a large group of small children getting measured for the height requirement, I have to run to get in line before they do and end up waiting longer. This is annoying because it literally happens all the time.

...hearing the word "arrow" used in any context makes you think about Arrow Dynamics. ...hearing people abbreviate Salt Lake City as SLC makes you think about Vekoma SLCs. ...you will watch a movie just to see a scene that takes place at an amusement park. -
Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread

^ It's really that busy on a Sunday in September? At my home park, everything is usually a walk-on at that time of year. Thanks for the info. -
Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
VF15 replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There is a chance that I might be able to visit Worlds of Fun this year. I have a few questions that you WOF locals can probably answer. 1) It would likely be on a Sunday in mid-September. How bad are lines at this time of year, and would I need a Fast Lane (I'm assuming no, but you never know)? 2) Are any major coasters usually closed around this time of year? 3) Which coasters are must rides, and which ones should I skip? 4) What are the best seats on the major coasters? 5) Where can I find good deals/discounts on tickets? 6) What are some nice restaurants within the park? Any input is appreciated. -
Mitch Hawker's steel roller coaster poll 2013 !

I just watched Robb's POVs of Soaring Eagle at Coney Island, so now I can see why you say that. They must really be bad if they're ranked below Goudurix. -
Mitch Hawker's steel roller coaster poll 2013 !
VF15 replied to booink's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why was Favorite Zamperla Volare ranked last in this poll? I have not ridden one, so to someone that has ridden one: are they rough, or just completely forceless (I'm guessing forceless). -

I disagree and would say Gatekeeper is low force compared Raptor but everyone has their opinion and preferences. I would rather have an Intamin like Maverick too, who wouldn't? But that probably will never happen because of the large financial investment it would take to build it. VF's revenue is to small to support that type of decision. I would take a B&M Hyper or Giga also at VF also but again, who wouldn't? And again it will probably never happen. The Hyper because the park already has one in Wild Thing and they do not need two or the price increase to remove WT and install a new Hyper. As for the Giga it would just be too expensive again for VF's revenue generation. Also, where would you put it? If/when VF gets a new coaster we will just have to wait and see what they choose. Until then we can have fun and continue to speculate. Valleyfair doesn't need a new hypercoaster because it has Wild Thing. While B&M makes better hypercoasters than Morgan, the GP loves Wild Thing, so it is not going anywhere anytime soon. A giga coaster will definitely happen because Valleyfair cannot build rides taller than 275 ft. due to nearby Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie. As for a B&M wing coaster, while it's not exactly what I want, I would not complain if we got one because begging Valleyfair for a B&M and then complaining when we get one is almost hypocritical. Besides, I think that enthusiasts' expectations for wing coasters are high enough that they're setting themselves up for disappointment. If you're expecting a "body-glued-to-the-seat" type of experience, then I guarantee you'll be disappointed. I kept my expectations low for X-Flight, but I ended up having a really fun ride. That's similar to how I felt when I moved to Minnesota a few years ago. I hadn't heard many good things about Valleyfair, but when I visited for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. -

I'm sure many of you have been aware of this for a while, but I'm glad that Northern Lights is no longer being referred to as a coaster. Kings Island and Cedar Point never called their Disk'O coasters roller coasters, so it only seems fair that VF doesn't try satisfy enthusiasts like us by getting ride like that. I honestly think that Northern Lights will be a fun ride. I'm just glad that VF is no longer basically saying "Here's your new coaster." -

I can't really say, I've never been to ValleyFair. But, nothing really looks forceful there. One good coaster will put them on the map. Well, Excalibur has some nice force if you can stand a little jerkiness, and even though Steel Venom is an impulse coaster, it has some good positive Gs, depending on where you sit. Still, Valleyfair needs something truly forceful, and I think that a B&M invert, if done correctly, could definitely do that. -

VF15 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even though most of us have been saying that a B&M invert is what Valleyfair should/likely will get for a new coaster in the future, I was feeling a little bit uneasy about a B&M since most B&M's in the past several years have been relatively forceless, but now that the reception for Banshee has been so positive, I would feel much better about a B&M invert at Valleyfair. I understand that it would likely have lower statistics so that it fits VF's budget better, but in the coaster world, taller and faster does not necessarily mean better. Wild Thing is the perfect example of this. While I really like Wild Thing, it isn't my favorite coaster at VF. -

Saw the 2013 Mitch Hawker Steel Poll Results. For Valleyfair... -Wild Thing was 129 -Steel Venom/Favorite Impulse Coaster was 161 -Mad Mouse/Favorite Wild Mouse was 302 -Corkscrew/Favorite Loop-Screw was 304 -Excalibur was 323 That poll reminded me of how many clones Valleyfair has. I think they are all fun, but the next new coaster should really be something unique and not a clone. I personally think that Excalibur is underrated, but that's probably just me. Also, here are some pictures of the new AA cars...
