  1. I believe they run either one or two Turbo Drops (red towers) based on attendance like running multiple trains. On slow days, it's usually just one, but on busy days like the one I mentioned above, they'll run the two towers. The Space Shot (blue tower) has only one tower, so it is similar to Steel Venom in that it has the same capacity regardless of crowds.
  2. I totally agree with this. I feel like some people take roller coasters WAY too seriously. We are supposed to have fun on them, but for some reason, every coaster has to be better and more forceful than the other. Even though an Arrow Corkscrew coaster isn't as good as a B&M Invert, I can still have fun on the Arrow Corkscrew as long as it's fun. My home park, Valleyfair, doesn't exactly have the world's best roller coaster collection, but I still have lots of fun everytime I go. In my opinion, when the GP gets off a ride, they think "Boy, that was fun!", while some enthusiats think stuff like "The airtime was weaker than normal, and the MCBR trimmed us too much". While I can be critical of roller coasters at times, I don't let that keep me from having fun.
  3. I asked the ride operator that exact same question, he said it had to do with the parks electricity bill or something I highly doubt that's the case. That would be a horrible decision from a guest service standpoint. I want to say that Valleyfair did it to be safe because CP's Skyhawk cable snapped, and because is one-side operation would be bad customer service, but then again, so is one-train coaster operation when the line is an hour long. In fact, my least favorite thing about Valleyfair is its aversion to multi-train operation (except on Wild Thing), and how they put on the second train later than they should. For example, I've seen Corkscrew have lines stretching outside the normal queue early in the day, but they put on the second train much later in the day when it has a walk-on wait. Renegade has the same problem, except I've never seen the line stretch outside the normal queue. One exception to all this was when I went there last year on a Saturday in mid-July, and every coaster was running all trains (believe it or not, including Excalibur, even though it still had it's normal walk-on wait). I wish we could see that more often.
  4. SeaWorld Orlando has single rider lines for Journey to Atlantis and Manta (seasonally).
  5. They confirmed in the most recent Insider video that there will be a single rider queue. Great. Thanks.
  6. I saw on the Wikipedia article for Goliath that it will have a single rider line. Do any of you know if this is absolutely true? While Wikipedia articles don't usually lie, this sounds a little too good to be true. If it is, then that is fantastic because it means that when I go, I'll be able to get a ton of laps on it. If not, then oh well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goliath_(Six_Flags_Great_America)
  7. This is a random question, but would any of you happen to know why Xtreme Swing was only running one side last year? Everytime I went to VF last year, it would only run one side regardless of if the park was packed or if everything was a walk-on. My guesses are that it was either broken down, or Valleyfair was being cheap by only operating one side, but does anyone know exactly why? Will we see this again soon?
  8. I'd like Valleyfair to get a B&M (preferably an invert), but I'm also realistic and I realize that that probably wont happen for another 2 or 3 years.
  9. California Screamin' - California Adventure
  10. Pleasant Surprise - California Screamin'. I had heard reports of it being forceless and boring, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The launch is cool, the loop had great positive G's, and there are a few pops of floater air here and there. Unpleasant Surprise - Raging Bull. Don't get me wrong, I really like Raging Bull, but for a B&M hypercoaster, I was expecting a lot more.
  11. Based on where the Tilt-a-Whirl is located, I don't know where they are going to put the new Steel Venom queue, as I don't really see any place where they will be able to squeeze it in. On the other hand, these maps are never to scale. I also noticed that the Scrambler will be closer to Northern Lights and Antique Autos. In the concept art, it looked like it was right next to SV. I guess they did that because people might have felt somewhat unsafe having Scrambler right there.
  12. Sounds interesting. Is it already running at the other parks that have already opened (Carowinds, Kings Dominion)?
  13. ^ Well, I guess that was your luck because I have never been to Valleyfair and had wait times like that, even on a Saturday.
  14. The webcam is finally back online. As expected, a lot more progress has been made.
  15. Saw this on the Kings Island Discussion Thread... I wouldn't know why the King's Island GM would be at Valleyfair, but who knows? Maybe it means something good might be coming. Then again, that's just speculation.
  16. I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Even if you went on the busiest day of the year, you will still be able to ride all 7 coasters plus lots of rerides, as Valleyfair has less attendance than many other amusement parks. If you think that Valleyfair has long lines, you probably have never been to Six Flags Great America. I went there last year on a Monday in July, and everything had at least an hour long wait, including the kiddie rides. I'm going back this year, and I will buy at least a Gold Flash Pass. Yeah, I'd much rather have Valleyfair as my home park than Michigan's Adventure or California's Great America. In fact, all the people that complain about having VF as a home park are starting to bother me. Would they rather live in Minnesota and have Valleyfair, or live in a coaster deprived state like Nebraska or Montana and have nothing? I wouldn't say I've been complaining in these last few pages. I've just been speculating.
  17. ^ Yeah, I guess VF/SFA are relatively similar. Neither really have a top 10 coaster lineup, and they haven't really invested a lot into their coasters. At least Valleyfair doesn't get hand me down coasters. Although, come to think of it, I think VF could get a relocated B&M coaster in the future, and I'd be okay with that as long as it's not a piece of trash like Vortex (CGA) or Mantis or something like that. I thought that Flight Deck (CGA) might have been a good candidate to get relocated, but since it just got repainted, I think it's there to stay. On the topic of SLCs, maybe I would be okay with one if the newer models are guaranteed to be smooth, but I still think that an SLC isn't the most likely option.
  18. Well, I wouldn't say I'm totally blown away by this, but it still looks like a pretty epic coaster. Too bad that it's all the way over in Scandanavia.
  19. ^ Yeah, you're right about the GCIs. Still, I'd say that the biggest reason we won't get a Eurofighter is because we have Rock Bottom Plunge 25 minutes away because having two of the same type of ride in the same metro area is pretty pointless. (Well, San Antonio does have two B:TR clones, but still...) As for the SLC, I'm still not sure why everyone is so confident that VF will get one. I'm not going to repeat anything I've said before, but I'd be very surprised if Valleyfair/Cedar Fair stooped down to that level. Yeah, Valleyfair is second to last in capital in the chain, but if they play their cards right, I'd say a B&M or some other quality coaster could happen within the next three to four years.
  20. Another coaster type I've heard people say VF should get in the future is a Gerstlauer Eurofighter. There are three reasons I don't think this will happen. 1) Cedar Fair has yet to purchase a Eurofighter. 2) The only Gerstlauer coaster Cedar Fair purchased was a spinning coaster for Worlds of Fun, and that was 10 years ago (Correct me if I'm wrong). 3) We have a Eurofighter 25 minutes away from VF at Nickelodeon Universe. Don't get me wrong, I think that Eurofighters are lots of fun, but Valleyfair needs something other than that right now.
  21. As I said, Coasters is another indoor restaurant, but I'm expecting Chickie's and Pete's to be better. I'm not much of a show person, and the lineup generally changes every year, so you should check the website once they have a list. Although, they do have a cool fireworks show at 9:50pm on summer nights. I agree with all of RCjunkie's seating recommendations. You should especially follow the one he listed for High Roller, or else you'll just get beat up and thrown around in a bad way.
  22. I am glad that they acknowledge that roller coasters are statistically very safe, but on the other hand, doesn't that basically defeat the purpose of that book?
  23. 1. July is probably the busiest time of year for Valleyfair, but I personally have never seen or waited in a line longer than one hour. I wouldn't recommend a Fast Lane unless you can only stay for a few hours. 2. Yeah. You'll be able to ride every coaster there in one day with plenty of re-rides. Make sure you get there early, and get plenty of laps on Renegade before it gets busy because unfortunately, Valleyfair is hesitant to put two trains on Renegade. Also, try to knock out High Roller and Corkscrew early because while they are fun for what they are, they aren't worth waiting more than 20 minutes for. Excalibur isn't always open directly at park opening, but when it does open, it is a walk-on 90% of the time. In general, Steel Venom and Wild Thing also have shorter lines in the morning, so to simplify, the earlier, the better. 3. Coasters is a 50s style diner, which I find to be pretty nice, and Chickie's and Pete's is taking over the sports bar, and will open this May. I obviously haven't been in it yet, but from what I've read, it looks good. 4. I like Excalibur (Arrow Dynamics hybrid coaster) more than most seem to. It's relatively short, but it has some good positive Gs, and one nice pop of airtime. It is a little jerky, but really nothing that I would consider painful. Corkscrew is just an Arrow Loopscrew coaster, but it is smoother than most. Also, while most rows on Wild Thing are just "meh", the front rows have some great airtime. Hope you enjoy Valleyfair.
