Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
DanTheBooker replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry, should have made myself more clear. I wouldn't consider Renegade, Steel Venom, or Wild Thing second rate coasters in terms of ride enjoyability, I'm just a bit disappointed that the park hasn't invested in a coaster that costs more than $10 million when all other Cedar Fair parks have (except Michigan's Adventure). As much as I like VF's coasters, if just a bit more money had been invested in the coasters, they could have made them a lot better. If Excalibur had an extra 500-800 feet of track with some interesting elements, I'd like it a lot more, but instead it has one of the most simplistic layouts out there. While I really like Wild Thing, the turnaround should have been built a little smaller and tighter to make it more interesting. Sorry if I sounded too negative here, but I guess I'm just getting tired of waiting for a new roller coaster (I'm sure everyone else probably is too). I see where you are coming from completely. I've said in private conversations with RCJunkie that I think Excalibur is the perfect lab rat for CF and RMC. Make it taller, steeper, longer, faster, and more interesting. Of note, I agree about Wild Thing's turnaround. But compare it to Mamba and Steel Force, I think it's the most interesting of the three. -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
DanTheBooker replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It is more like quality than quantity of roller coasters. Think about it like this, A park with 1 Intamin launched coaster (The good ride of this park). The only ride worth riding is the Intamin coaster. You must have not been to good Cedar Fair parks like Cedar point, good landscaping, scenery and excellent rides, now that mantis is now floorless trains, the only bad ride is Mean streak unlike Canada's Wonderland were they have a bunch of rough a painful rides. I still do love Canada's Wonderland especially their landscaping but the only roller coasters worth riding are Leviathan, Behemoth, Wonder Mountains Guardian and vortex or maybe Mighty Canadian Mine Buster depending if you like woodies. One of the things that is really good about the park is the Wonder Mountain, I think Canada's wonderland is the best looking Cedar Fair park. CW has an Intamin? Even after consulting RCDB I can't find one. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

They'd better not. If Valleyfair received Flight Deck (or any SLC for that manner), I would probably discontinue my season pass. We already have several mediocre coasters here. If VF just once got a coaster that isn't second rate, I would be forever grateful. While I agree that an SLC would be a tremendous disappointment, I have to call you out on that last line. When has Valleyfair ever received a coaster that wasn't first rate. Outside of maybe Excalibur (Arrow Mine Trains were all the rage when it was built), I think we have a damn good collection of coasters given the size of our market. Arrow Loop Screw - was there a better option for a steel coaster in the early 80's? That I know of. Morgan Hyper - By no means a second rate coaster. Third longest roller coaster in US when it opened. Arrow Wild Mouse - Replaced a 30+ year old Wildcat with a brand new ride. Intamin Impulse - Smallest Park in the country to have one. Only six in existence. GCI - first in the Chain and great layout combining an out and back with a twister. 3000ft+ Again SLC would certainly be a letdown. And a used one? Ish. But with Valleyfair, second rate would be the exception, not the rule. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
DanTheBooker replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree about the pulling it off classy and not expecting anything else from HW. Completely right. Now, was I surprised they went with a B&M launched wing coaster. Oh yeah. But a B&M. No. To me, they were the front runners in my mind the whole time (though if Proslide did a steel coaster, I'd bet Rick would have got the contract). Reason for not being surprised by B&M... One word. Reliability. Plain and simple. A new coaster is always a big deal, especially for a small park. Even more so when it's a small park's first steel coaster. Holiday World wants to make sure they'll have minimal (if any) downtime. And long term, B&Ms are time tested. Sure the launch is a first, but from a tested vendor with B&M putting their name on it. I also think a park, specifically a small non-corporate park has a lot to gain in the "making a statement" department by going with B&M -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

Hell, I'd be happy if CW managed to buy Le Vampie (BTR Clone) off of La Ronde. They could market it as flight deck: the 2nd mission, or some kind of reboot of the ride. It'd probably be more forcefull than any new B&M they get, and possibly would take lines out of the origonal flight deck (maybe that'd get them to tear it down?) lol Seriously though, a good forceful looper would be huge for the park IMO. I think after two major non looping coasters, this one will invert. My money is on a wing coaster. While my idea about six shorter trains was simply a concept, everyone is talking about blocking, break runs, etc. UMMMMMM.. Maverick would like to have a word with you..... -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
DanTheBooker replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So. Just had an absolutely chilling thought. As everyone is aware, Canada's Wonderland is more than likely getting another massive B&M in 2016. Signs point to it being either an invert or a wing. Should it be an invert, it would only make sense that they'd remove Flight Deck. Well there is only one park in the chain without a full circuit invert. A park that could use a new coaster in 2016. A park that has been questioned to be worth the financial investment that comes with a new B&M. You guessed it. Valleyfair. I hope I'm wrong, but until I know for sure that I am, I'll be praying that CW gets another B&M model other than invert. -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
DanTheBooker replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Don't know if I'm using this right, but You can almost guarantee that Canada's Wonderland will be teasing "Ziz" for their 2016 attraction. My money's on a B&M launched of some sort. Wing seems like the most obvious one. A launched wing coaster could not be a very big project. The problem with a launched wing coaster is that the trains need to be shortened to be light enough for the launch (see Holiday World) and with CW's attendance, I really doubt CF would want to limit capacity like that. If it is going to be a launched coaster, I would expect it to be a sit-down or floorless train. While you're completely right about shorter trains, what about smaller five car trains but instead of three, having like six. Cedar Fair did this with Maverick and Top Thrill Dragster. Also, dual stations could be used to increase capacity even more. -

That doesn't really surprise me that Subway is returning. they probably bought a franchise. So they're obligated to operate for a set time period. While the prices are high, the nice part of having it at the park is the picky eaters know they can get something they're used to. -

I like the idea, especially the color scheme but I would name it The Blizzard or Polar Vortex because Minnesota has no mountains. Of course if VF gets a coaster like that I really don't care what they call it. Hey! We do too. Right here in Duluth. We even have an Alpine Coaster! Not five minutes from my house! -

Saw the link to this thread in the SFMM thread and thought I'd give it a MAJOR bump. Here's what I'm thinking. While it's safe to assume it may still be a few years down the line, which coaster at each CedarFair park do you think is the best candidate for being RMC'ed. Also, if CedarFair announced one park was getting a ground up RMC, which park would you expect to see it at? I'd expect Rob Decker and associates to choose topper track rather than I-Box. Stay true to wood. CP: CCMR...... I kid. Mean Streak, of course. KBF: Ghost Rider, by default. CW: Mindbuster Big park, big coaster. KI: Beast. I'd love to see what Schilke came up with for the second half of the ride. KD: Grizzly, I'd imagine. Seems to be the one in worse shape. Carowinds: Hurler, I guess. But it'd be interesting to see what Alan could do with Thunder Road. CGA: Grizzly, naturally. DP: Tthis would be my candidate for ground up. I don't think anyone could argue that they need new wood. WOF: Obviously Timberwolf. VF: Excalibur. I'd elect for I-Box here. Added length and inversions are what's needed to save it. MiA: Wolverine Wildcat's layout could be very interesting if RMC'd What do you think?

I've never been to this park, so please forgive me if the answer to my question is obvious. A coaster enthusiast friend and I were talking (he's never been to the park either) and he said how great it would be to have a terrain woodie at BGW. Is there room for one and isn't there a rule that limits or prohibits trees being removed there(hence Verbolten following BBW route so much)? Thanks..

Are we seriously having another debate about grammar?! I'm really excited to see this project complete. The whole mindset of the ibox track was to reduce maintenance. Well if one park that could use a product like that it's SFMM. I'll still be curious to see what if any technology is used on the lift to ensure the dualing aspect. If I had to guess, I'm sure censors will be in place to allow trains to line up. I HOPE anyway!!

I think this park would be a great candidate for a GG Jr woodie ala Wooden Warrior/Roar-A-Saurus. -

Remove Corkscrew and replace it with a B&M dive machine and use the Waves pool for a splashdown. That'd be cool. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Paula, I just want to say thanks to you for being so interactive with the enthusiast community. I'll be the first to admit not everyone in this hobby is always friendly and some have a tendency to be a little to honest sometimes. But know that many of us appreciate your commitment to us as a community. I applaud you and the staff at HW! I didn't think it was possible to be this excited for a new ride. Not to ride it or experience it myself (though I hope to some day), but for you as a park to have such a wonderful world class addition. Thank you, Paula! To other TPR members: have we ever had somebody from a park be so accessible to us during the construction of a major attraction? Maybe so, but it's certainly. The exception and not the rule! -
