  1. CP is already trying to keep their guests safe. They have security. Metal detectors don't increase security; they just increase its visibility. This is a CYA move, plain and simple. They're avoiding lawsuits, not incidents. A million signs, a big ol' fence, a warning from the ride ops that loose articles should be left with a non-rider, a dropped phone, and one stupid decision later, the park comes under fire for being unsafe. People will complain, whine, and grovel to every lawyer in the world if they get so much as a nightmare about getting a paper cut at an amusement park.
  2. Thanks to everyone for the replies. KD/BGW will be enough for that trip. I'll pick up the SFA credits some other time.
  3. I'm looking at potentially booking a trip to BGW/KD summer 2018 with a Base of Operations in Williamsburg. Since SFA is close-ish, what are the odds I'd collect all credits/decent flats arriving at 1 pm with no Flash Pass in 1 day. Is it worth it to make the 3 hour drive?
  4. Some aspects were recycled and are now InvadN BGW. The rest is gathering cobwebs and growing moss. Likely nothing will happen until the chain recovers some more from Blackfish.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Corkscrew welded together like most Arrows, therefore pretty much cancelling out all tweaking possibilities? IIRC, the Maurer Skyloop at Magic Springs was supposed to be relocated to Elitch Gardens, but that changed because the coaster's welded together.
  6. I'd rather it go to a museum of some sort. I remember talk on this thread about it possibly going to a Neon museum. Another option would be sending it to a coaster museum.
  7. It wouldn't surprise me that if/when that point comes, that the park would replace it with another coaster that also corkscrews over the midway.
  8. While I'm still not sold on the IP, the film had amazing visuals which appear to have translated extremely well to the park. It'll be interesting to see how this area is received--especially if/when James Cameron gets those sequels made. But I'm still hoping that a Journey to the Center of the Earth clone ends up here someday.
  9. They are not crazy. -Six Flags is a corporate-run park that requires millions of dollars for any sort of capital expansion. -The high prices cuts down on drunkenness--good for visiting families. -Even at that price point, there is still demand for it. As long as demand remains, so does the price.
  10. Yes, the first Beast at night comparison! This has been a bigger question than the shed for me since it was announced. I can't wait to hear what more people think on this, especially as the ride ages. I wonder if the park'll change up the "shows" for Haunt or not. Makes stacking a little more enjoyable. And depending on how it's received, I can easily see other parks adding "sheds."
  11. Potential B&M invert themed to a ski lift a la Alpengeist? I could potentially see Dollywood lasting 20 years with no new rides at all with how much awesome stuff there is to do at the park currently, with the rides, the shows, the craft demonstrations. Hell, they could probably keep the lights burning on the cinnamon bread alone.
  12. 2018: half of that is currently taking place for 2017. 2019: lol. Where? 2020: probably. 2021: eh. maybe. 2022: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. articles.mcall.com/2011-07-22/news/mc-south-whitehall-dorney-rules-chang20110722_1_tall-rides-new-rides-steel-force Dang, and I thought Alton Towers was a stickler when it came to height restrictions. But the plain and simple fact of the matter being I doubt that Dorney will ever get a Giga because it's Dorney. But hey, that's what RCT pipe dreams are for.
  13. Looks like your standard, run of the mill, GCI woodie. KI's got a winner on their hands.
  14. While I think a disembarkation platform would increase capacity at Xcellerator, I also think that it would cost a lot to do it. Not only would it cost a good chunk to redesign the curve for the purpose, you'd have to staff it. If it were to be done, it would mean the ride would enter into a lengthened period of downtime. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But I do think that the ride could use a can or two million of paint. As for it happening at YOLOCoaster,
  15. Though I've unfortunately yet to experience BGW, I'd say BGT is worse. The monkey-fighting Schwarzkopf has a lower height requirement than their wild mouse! The three B&Ms and Falcon's Fury all have 54" requirements. Sure there are some rides for the kiddies, but there's a lot of walking involved in the Floridian heat. Though there is a fun-looking shaded jungle-gym type play area in the Sesame Street area.
  16. And now I'm going to add a ride op's perspective on the height requirement argument. I have 2 years experience operating a ride with the greatest height requirement in the park. There are so many angry parent stories swapped around the breakroom about a child being just barely too short and crying while the parent yells at the ride op. The parent yelling at the ride ops because the kid was already on all other rides in the park and now can't get on this one. Or was on the ride earlier in the day/season. That's the kind of thing I hate the most. Worse than the drunks. Worse than the tossed cookies I have to clean up. Worse than those who think that they're above the rules. It's the look on the kid's face as their tears stain the cement. But my biggest question in this debate is: who's to blame the most? The park who ordered the ride and set the requirement or the engineers who designed it? B&M Family Invert: approx 45" Cedar Fair Vekoma Family Suspended: 44" Legoland Florida Vekoma Family Suspended: 48" Fun-Spot Orlando's Vekoma Family Suspended: 36" with adult/48" without And since we're on the subject of GCI, If I remember correctly, when Legoland Florida switched out the PTC trains on Coastersaurus for GCI Mini-lenium flyers, the height requirement increased and some weren't all too happy about that.
  17. The fires last year brought the area national attention. I would not at all be surprised if that has anything to do with it.
  18. Same here. As a long-time Huss Condor fan, I am truly shocked, appalled, and deeply crestfallen by the lack of, well... ANYTHING concerning Falcon's Fury. No test runs, no pictures of the gondolas, no pictures of the tower, no nothing. I personally fail to see what Busch Garden Tampa's Intamin Drop Tower has to do with Worlds of Fun, but if you want pictures, Here you go. In full operation, too!
  19. It doesn't surprise me that SFOG does it after the Batman Darwinism incident.
  20. Boomerang doesn't close until the end of the month. Was this move a preemptive strike, or is work starting before the curtain call?
  21. The park has FOUR woodies and one of them is currently being RMC'd. But one more woodie? What makes the other three "non-bonafide" woodies? The definition of bonafide is "real". Is this like when enthusiasts complain about El Toro - the completely wooden coaster made entirely out of wood - is not reeeaaaallly a wooden coaster? Really it has two because Iron Hurler will not be wooden and Woodstock Express is a kids coaster (albeit a very good one). I mean a GG or GCI woodie like Prowler or Mystic Timbers. And like I said I can live with a refurbish of Grizzly too. I do not believe that Boldikus counted Hurler. 1. Grizzly 2. Woodstock Express 3. Rebel Yell A 4. Rebel Yell B All ARE bonafide wooden coasters. So what if they're on the older, or less thrilling side? Do I think the park could benefit from a modern woodie? Yes. But it's not necessary right now.
  22. Nah. Not enough flat spaces for hair gel advertisements. Maybe a bumper sticker?
