  1. You may find it easier to read it from the original source. Gotta love Google. charmeck.org/city/charlotte/Candidates%20Request%20Responses/06%2024%2013%20Closed%20Session%20%28Cedar%20Fair%20Southwest%29.pdf
  2. The more pictures I see, the more I love the colors.
  3. They retracked the drop in 2011. It is the first banked turn that is getting redone in the off season this year.
  4. Just over 3 months until I'm there. I hope they have it done by then! It's looking good.
  5. ^It looks like he is getting ready to caber toss.
  6. ^North Carolina is largely non-union.

  8. ^^I think there is a good chance for it going under the bridge. Especially since they will be closing the main gate for a period of time.
  9. ^I really like that idea. Hopefully it goes over well and Cedar Fair rolls that out across all of their parks.
  10. ^Yep. Someone apparently likes red. From the way it was described, it sounds like it will look similar to Patriot at Worlds of Fun.
  11. Wow, I never realized that cruise ships weighed so much although it makes sense. I thought the military ships I've been on were heavy at 18,000 tons fully loaded. How fast does a cruise ship go with that kind of weight? EDIT: Never mind the stupid question. Amazing how the Internet works; I searched and found out they usually cruise in the ballpark of 22 knots.
  12. I couldn't even finish reading it I was so disgusted. It says 'we aren't entitled' yet the tone of the article clearly says 'we are entitled.' If more of the 'not entitled' stay mad and don't go, the lines will be shorter, at least by a few people.
  13. I would love to seem them remove the trim on the first hill. Since they've added it there is little to no airtime on the first few hills. (camel backs?) Maybe a complete rebuild of that first banked turn will keep up some of the speed so the airtime returns without removing the trim.
  14. I was at a Q&A session with park officials this past weekend. Here's what was discussed. The only news on the new coaster is that it appears it will be opening in 2015. They kept using that date although they never came right out and said it. Additionally they said that Xtreme Skyflyer, the sky coaster, will either be moved or removed to make room for the coaster. It wasn't clear and the PR manager cut him off as he was saying too much. Off to other news. The new restaurant building will be a Festhaus like the one in Kings Island. It will seat approximately 500 people and will be located in the grassy field in front of Intimidator. Look for an official announcement soon. The final few bunny hops on Thunder Road will be rebuilt this off-season completing the 5 year total replacement of the track. If you ride in the second row the ride is quite enjoyable. The first banked turn of Hurler will also be rebuilt during the off-season. I have yet to find any seat on this coaster that is enjoyable. In the new Cedar Fair tradition, there will be a lot of painting coming up. Afterburn is still sporting its original paint and it will be repainted red (track), white, and blue. It was scheduled for this past spring but we had too much rain so it's been postponed until this fall. It costs around $250,000 to repaint a coaster. Ricochet will also be repainted in the next year or two. The current partial paint was done for maintenance reasons. Some of the water slides in the water park will also sport new paint next year. As part of the front gate overhaul, it will be closed at some point in 2014 for the work. They will use the south gate instead. Once the work at the front gate is finished, the south gate will be closed and removed. The biggest news: blue ice cream is coming back. Darn this low-fat diet! That's all I can remember right now. I will update if I remember anything else.
  15. A little something I put together. I hope you enjoy. --- If a corkscrew means more to you than a bottle of fine wine and your arms are always in the air with no time left to dine. While the sun is quickly setting, up the lift hill you will climb 'cause you always have to ride this roller coaster one more time. And you know the beemers forceless even though it's gonna run while the Intamins just sitting underneath the Summer sun. And the crowds are filling up the queue to Jubilee Odyssey 'cause they don't know there are better things out there than SLC. The word woodie means more to you than your friends will ever know while they're laughing you see Cyclone and your eyes begin to glow. You think giga, you think hyper, and you dream of RMC. They're just stuck in their small world of perverse depravity. If vacation times are filled with terms like air and gravity While the wooden credit makes an intracranial cavity. And a coaster means more to you than a sweet and scentful hug, then you better watch your wallet cause you've surely caught the bug.
  16. Wow, I clearly wasn't paying attention during my three rides. Sorry for the misinformation.
  17. ^It must be something new. There wasn't anybody stationed there when I rode it in April.
  18. ^Great point! Kudos to Disney to make sure they are going out of their way to provide a tiny bit of sanity to these families who are going through so much. I am always honored to be able to donate to GKTW and Make-a-wish and help them in any way that I can.
  19. So, I just went to check on my son. He's watching youtube videos on his iPad. When I left him 10 minutes ago, I had him watching Barney (one of his favorites). When I went back he was watching TPR roller coaster videos. I don't know how he got there since he can't read or type but you can tell he's my son.
  20. Two thumbs up from me. As someone who this directly affects (my son is handicapped and in a wheelchair), this policy matches what most parks do. Our last trip to WDW in 2008 had the GAC and we weren't comfortable having immediate access to the rides when there was an hour+ wait. Even back then we saw many people who appeared to be abusing the system. We are just appreciative that most of the parks do have something like DAS where we can wheel him through the ride exit and I transfer him to the ride where we can ride as a family. He doesn't ride the big coasters (but LOVES dark rides) and my daughter and I wait in line just like everyone else. You'll note that we just don't go to the parks during the busy times but plan most of our trips when we know parks won't be as busy. Thankfully most parks are starting to put in family restrooms but that's a whole different topic.
  21. It's nice to see I'm not the only one. I rode my first coasters at Geauga Lake when I was 8. I loved amusement parks but it wasn't all about coasters. At 18 I went in the military, was deployed all the time, and we couldn't afford to go to amusement parks. Then I went to college. Same story. After college we moved to Charlotte and I rode all the coasters at Carowinds which are average and reminded me of the ones I grew up with - except for Afterburn which really surprised me with the intensity. Fast forward to when I was 40. I still only had about 35 credits and then I rode Intimidator. I couldn't believe that they were making coasters like that. I just love floater air time as my body is kind of beat up from 6 years in the Corps. At that moment I fell in love with coasters and I will ride a coaster any chance that I get. I have been on better coasters than Intimidator since then but it will always be my sentimental favorite. I still enjoy the whole amusement/theme park experience more than anything else but I love coasters.
  22. I'm really looking forward to this coaster. From what I've read, it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fine for my entire family. We've pushed back our next trip to WDW twice so we can get to experience this.
  23. I completely agree with Robb. While I have never worked a maze, we attend SCarowinds every year while someone watches my 23 year old son who is mentally and physically disabled. Even if he wasn't mentally handicapped and able to handle the 'intensity' of the haunt, we wouldn't take him because of the stress of trying to get his wheelchair through the mazes. Some of them are a little difficult to walk through so I can't imagine trying to navigate a wheel chair through them. I know it sucks...
  24. I have never tried this but I snagged a picture of it.
