Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

I never necessarily disliked it, but I never understood it. Hershey's logo should have something to do with chocolate, even if it's for the park. -

Unlikely, but maybe they'll skip Pipe Scream this time for an announcement on the 10th. -
Seems like you guys won't be getting MF trains after all. Six Flags really just doesn't care about this park. I know that the trains are being used for parts, but would it hurt to let SFA use the trains for a year or two, then send them out? If they rehab one Roar it would make sense to do both. Also, where was it heard that SF doesn't have any Ibox contracts next year? Unless they're looking to build another Topper Track coaster like Goliath.

I heard that we're in for another harsh winter, so I'm sure that the park would like to take as long as possible to ensure they could get the coaster done. I would love the park to add a Frisbee ride, and it was even mentioned in one of the surveys with the name "Sidewinder". If a new owner steps in, it would be a very doable addition. They aren't too costly and would be very popular.

They're obviously RMCing El Toro and it will now take up Rolling Thunder's space as well.... I like the blue, but my question is, is this Ibox track or 4d track? I believe I remember Schilke saying in an interview that 4d track is a larger version of Ibox. So if the track is larger, we know it is definitely 4d.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

This. Skyrush doesn't get the love that it deserves because of its restraints. Fine with me, that means shorter lines!!! Before my first ride, I watched the POVs and thought "This looks weak, there's no way it can be in my top 10". I angered the coaster gods that day, and I held on for dear life for the first time of my life on a coaster. Maverick was my number one, but this thing completely eats Maverick up for breakfast. There is no ejector airtime like it anywhere. -

Is this NL2? -
Somebody believed they saw somebody from GCI surveying or something by Predator, but I call BS. Not doubting that they saw them or whatever, but GCI doesn't do inversions. The survey shown Timberliners and Outlaw Run. Is GCI completely ruled out? No. But at this point RMC is the only logical choice. I think Topper Track is the only thing that can make Predator a good coaster again.

^ 1) Predator would have closed by now if that was the case. It would take a while to begin demo/construction. 2) RMC is already booked for next year w/ Lightning Rod, Wildfire, Roar, and Storm Chaser 3) Alan Schilke said that RMC was also booked for 2017, so we may or may not see it happen for then. Expect Predator to close early next year if we are booked.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

^Wow that's actually a really handy tool. More parks should have that. I believe that Comet is one of the three that opens early, because by the time I got to it, the line was already filling up. It actually had a longer line than Skyrush and SDL combined. -

I've been to Hershey a handful of times now and have been unlucky to never get on Comet. It has either been closed, or the line was too long to bear. Next time I get out there, I'll have to hit it first as tempting as Skyrush is. -
That may because people didn't send many good comments back about it. Knowing the GP they would've said stuff like "We already have looping coasters" and "Build something better than x ride" If the GP sees something like a 4d coaster they'll probably respond well because they have never been on one and it's a new design.

I haven't been to Fright Fest the last few years, but it wasn't really worth it after the park stopped adding things to it. The haunted house was upcharge, the field trip was removed, and the special attractions didn't even open until later in the day. Compare this to Cedar Fair parks which have many free haunts and new things every year, and ours was just lame. Hopefully when the park switches hands, we will see a return of a bigger and brighter Fright Fest. I'm not really into the events that they have listed, but it will probably be a big hit with families. If they mixed the family events with haunts next year, I bet a lot of people would be very happy. Families by day, frights by night could be its marketing slogan.

Out of about 4 visits to Hershey, I have never been on Comet. Twice it was down for the entire visit, and the rest of my visits, the line was too long to bear. Would I have liked to go on it; sure. Was it worth it considering in the same wait time, I could get on Skyrush and Storm Runner a handful of times? Heck no. I used to worry about hitting all of the coasters at a park once before I left, but I found out that it wasn't worth it because I wasted my money not to have fun. So what if I rode one more coaster in Comet? I would have wasted 1 1/2+ hours to get on one coaster when I could've done Skyrush 5 times by then. That is the better option to me. Do the stuff you want to do, don't waste time on the little things. -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread

I guess I should read things before posting There's a good chance that the employees are still working at the park for the investigation, but I don't believe that they will be working much longer. This is a multi-million dollar control system we are talking about, and even if a component made an error or broke, there are many, many backups that would have prevented the ride from starting. Even something as simple as starting the lift requires the ride to be in maintenance mode, so advancing trains without reinitializing the system would require a human to "be in the driver's seat" -

Criminally, no. But they have likely already been fired and will be blacklisted from many new job opportunities. The only way that he can get in criminal trouble is if it's proven that he knew someone on the train and was trying to intentionally hurt them. Wouldn't be surprised if when the Smiler reopens, it has much more strict controls. All somebody needs to have full control of the ride is the override key. From there, anything goes. The ride may have to be programmed to have a much more fail safe block system, as in no dispatch enable until all trains are sensed or stopped in a block, no inbetween.
