  1. ^It should be an endurance comp on Big Brother. Last competitor to remain riding is the winner.
  2. ^^Plus if it was a dark ride, why not reuse the Good Times Theater building, or add onto it? It would be quite pointless to tear down a building and build a new one in the same place. Signs have been pointing all year to a coaster. And there's a 90% chance that will happen at this point.
  3. Griffon can pull 1400 per hour. But those are 10 across trains. Baron has 6 across cars with 1000 per hour. So if Cedar Point goes with 8 across cars, that's approx. a 1200 per hour theoretical capacity. Not too worried B&Ms are always people eaters.
  4. That's actually a fantastic name for a dark ride of they ever get one.
  5. I got it! They're building a giant dome around the whole park so they can run anything in any weather condition. Including snow.
  6. There is a limit of how long they will leave people waiting before evacuating. I've seen some coasters go as quick as 20 minutes before evacuating because they were sit-downs and easier. Where as a coaster like MF or Raptor can be longer because of their unique circumstances. Anything longer than two hours would be ridiculous and by then maintenance would have to start setting up the platforms.
  7. I'm not sure how the park handles incidents like this. Maybe someone who visits the park more has insight of this. I know Disney/Universal give out exit passes but i'm not sure about CF. From an operations/safety standpoint, their goal is to try and cycle the ride through rather than evacuate. Getting stuck on a lift hill won't receive too much publicity, but an injury will. Look at the guy who got his leg caught in Raptor's gate. From a mechanical standpoint, mechanics would rather use their time to fix the ride than to waste it setting up evac platforms.
  8. I would imagine that if they don't absolutely have to evac Raptor, then they wont. Why? because it's an invert and more difficult to evacuate then most other coasters. First, there is no floor or even panels beneath the whole lift. A panel has to be slid on a track and lined up with the cars to create the surface. Plus it's kind of dicey moving people on an angle like that to the catwalk high in the air. If that isn't enough trouble, everyone needs to have on shoes to avoid any injuries, so somebody needs to bring up all the loose shoes and distribute them to their owner.
  9. ^Most likely staffing issues. Thunder Rapids requires more operators than most rides in the park, even the coasters. To run one loading dock, you automatically need three operators. One loading, one unloading, and one who works the main panel and dispatches boats. Then you need two operators to stand on the lifts and stop them if something happens. To open another side of the station, that would require 2-3 more ops (one loading, unloading, and possibly one for crowd control). I would prefer the park to move some of the operators around, possibly adding more to RoS, like they have at Millennium Force to expedite the restraint checks. Some days, however staffing is bad. You notice this if Mind Eraser only has 2 ops as opposed to 3, and Swirl City has only one attendant at the top working all 4 slides.
  10. ^I bet the wind was a major factor as to why the screen collapsed. Most banners nowadays have wind slits so they don't move around as much. A movie screen I would imagine doesn't have slits. The attendants at the entrance are there only to check heights, answer questions, and inform anyone if the ride is closed. Anybody of any size can wait in line as long as they are tall enough. They removed some of the little props, but other then that it has all been growing over. Demolition would require jackhammers and other equipment because all the holes and ponds were concrete. The entrance to it has been turned into a shaded seating area, which is nice. Not sure what Twister's problem is, but it's been down for a couple of weeks now with no repairs being made. I am aware of the few minor issues it had before, but I think this has to do with the ride's age as well. Top spins don't age too well, and many parks have started to remove them; even Twister at SFNE. Corn Popper is another ride that has many bugs. Every year it seems to go down for a while for the same recurring issues. It could be one of the next up to leave too. It is a unique ride, but maintenance can never get the hydraulics to go right. Thunder Rapids had a problem with the smaller lift. They removed some of the logs and had the ride drained before starting the water back up. Glad to hear you had a good visit despite your headache. Seems like most people who have visited the park this year have seen a lot of improvement from last year, so that's a good sign of things to come.
  11. It's definitely the graphics slowing me down, it's probably the cheapest most basic card there can be. Although my processor is only dual core, it gets 3 Ghz, which is a lot for that. My only issue is that the video card is the only integrated part, so I think that I'll see what my PCIE options are, or just build one myself.
  12. Wow, it's pretty cool that Proslide can now incorporate LSM technology into bowl-like features too. Maybe soon we'll see an LSM Cannonbowl or Tornado. Too bad my home park wouldn't put one of these babies in!
  13. Here is my system's current hardware: Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (very poor) Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 Processor (decent speed but only dual core) RAM: 3.8 GB (probably needs upgrade) As you can tell, it is a very simple computer made for home use only. Would I be better off getting a new one, or just upgrading to new hardware. I really want to be able to use NL2 without lag, even if it is a bigger park.
  14. ^It's something different. I would give it a try. Doesn't seem overly thrilling, but it's a new experience.
  15. I cannot comment for La Ronde, as I've never been there. But I have made multiple visits to both MFI and Seabreeze so I can offer any advice for both parks. Both are reasonable with prices and food. Nothing out of this world amazing, but not as bad as some parks. Fantasy Island has a good pizza stand by the Crazy Mouse and a restaurant called Boppers next to the Disko. There's also a chicken stand in front of the Silver Comet. It all depends what you have a taste for. Make sure to get sugar waffles on the way out from the yellow stand. Definitely a tradition for me. Seabeeze food is pretty similar to MFI, many stands within the park selling the same kind of stuff. For dessert or a snack, there is a really good ice cream stand in front of the park. You could totally do a whole day there, many unique rides and a good waterpark.
  16. ^^I have to be on the same boat these guys are on. Maybe give it a trial, but don't get too far involved where it could just end up being a waste. Also, maybe reach out to other people on current social media and see if they would support something like this. The moderating would need a little bit of time I would imagine to sort out all of the users, but if you get a good group going, over time the issues would become less and less. I rarely see many issues on here that result in total chaos or get too far out of hand within topics.
  17. I've been having issues with my computer running NL2. The most I can squeeze out of it is about 13 FPS. The computer I've been running it on is a 2009 HP PC that I got from a friend. It's obviously nothing special, just a basic home platform. It was never designed for any big games like this. I have been looking into majorly overhauling it possibly to retrofit it with hardware that can handle the simulator better. Would it be worth buying say a new video card, processor, etc. to handle this software or would I be better off just buying a new computer? I don't want too spend an arm and a leg, yet I'm not trying to skimp out on stuff. I can definitely provide its current specs at some point to gain opinions and possible upgrades I can do. My end goal is that I will be able to build bigger coasters and parks where I won't have to deal with lagging issues. As an engineer, this will also assist me while rendering in CAD programs so I can do more work at home. Thank you in advance!
  18. I would call myself pretty tech savvy, but I'm not much into the social media stuff either. I prefer the forum based news and discussion, as here I don't have to deal with a lot of the GP's nonsense, and it is an open place to ask questions and give feedback on stuff. I'm very robotic while using the web, besides Screamscape, TPR is one of the only sites that I visit on a daily basis. It's usually opened in a separate tab while I have downtime at work. Other than the forums, the only other place that I follow TPR is Youtube, but even there I don't have an account or subscribe to channels, so I would be open to another forum-like site like Reddit. I would say that it's at least worth a trial run.
  19. People afraid to enter the station and block the entrance. I waited 40 minutes for a coaster that would have been a one train wait because people didn't know where to sit/didn't know when to enter. As for the basketballs, does Cedar Point give them away, because it seems like every other person has one.
  20. Maybe the barns were the maintenance buildings.(?) Except rides were never fully stored in them. Mainly parts for the rides, tools, etc were in those buildings. At least that's how it was around 10 years ago, when I started as an op/mechanic. The park was still Six Flags at that point.
  21. I personally am not too familiar with Reddit, but recently I have been reading some of the subreddits on there, and I feel like it could bring more people here. Of course, you will get stuck with dealing with the trolls and crazies, but it could be another great way to kind of advertise the site. I found the I am a topics very interesting. For those not familiar, it's basically a person who starts a topic by saying I am a... For instance there was one with a former Top Thrill Dragster operator who held sort of like a Q&A and answered any questions people had about the ride, park, etc.
  22. ^I think he was talking about the lot across the street where Batman is stored. There is a boneyard in the park, that I have never seen pictures of online. I only remember from when I worked maintenance at the park years ago.
  23. The reason why I feel like it is overrated is because it is not a balanced ride. The front seat offers a smooth, forceful ride. But the back has no airtime besides the first drop. It is not balanced like the original Comet, and that's why I feel it is overrated. Yes, the Silver Comet is well taken care of and could be a great ride, but the front is the only seat with good force.
  24. Sorry for the double post here but I found the exact quote. It came from Bob Montgomery (former GM). Now of course, this document was from a few years ago, and plans likely have changed. But the bolded statement will not change no matter who owns the park or what year it is. With CNL liquidating, this document, and the suitors involved, all signs are pointing in the right direction.
  25. I'm not too sure that I'm fond of the capsule idea either. It really takes away from the true waterslide feeling. Vertical loops are just something that won't work on a body slide.
