Front Seat Vs. Back Seat Coasters.
coasterkid124 replied to Physical's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been riding coasters in the back ever since... well ever since I've been riding coasters. It's just so much more intense for pretty much all coasters, and the wait is less. Plus you don't get a pop of air over the first hill in the front, and that is probably the best part of most rides. Even on inverts, I prefer the back as the track is more unpredictable. Raptor's zero g roll still gets me every time because I don't expect it and it throws you around good. There are only a few coasters I will ride in the front. The biggest one coming to my mind right now is Silver Comet at Martin's Fantasy Island. There is no airtime in the back besides the first drop. However, in the front it is vice-versa. Airtime everywhere BUT the first drop. It's really one of the few exceptions I'll make. -
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks the new PTC train is ugly. I love how they are modernizing and trying to keep up with the newest wooden coaster trains, but this one's design is just bad to me. Let's just hope this design works out better than their original trailered trains. (Which I believe that Thunderhawk used to run, which explains why it got so rough)

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
coasterkid124 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You know what? The Darien Lake thread isn't such a bad place anymore. I think this thread is beginning to surpass it. Next on Cedar Fair's evil teasing list is Michigan's Adventure. Instead of an invert, they'll use a Fury-esque giga with the words "I wish I got a season pass for Christmas" next to it. Emphasis on the words "I wish". I really don't think that Cedar Fair would want to waste the time or money on personally customizing ads to each individual park. The GP really doesn't care, and doesn't notice the difference anyways. -

Signed it. Definitely want to see this happen. I would be in Orlando in a flash if it did. -
That One Ride You Just Can't Enjoy...

The funny thing about Wildcat is that people either hate it or love it. There's no in-between. -
What Social Media do you use the most?
coasterkid124 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not a huge on the social media stuff. I know at this point in my life that I have my inner circle of friends, and I just want to stay out of the drama and crap that people say. However, if I had to rank, it would be: 1) Youtube- My most often visited "social" site. I don't sign in, or contribute really, but I do follow TPR's videos and watch a lot of other stuff on there too. 2) Facebook- I used to have an account, but decided to ditch it after a lot of stupidity from "friends". I still use it solely as a news source for parks, and to see responses from parks on peoples' comments. In all honesty, I just skip over posts saying stuff like "Tell us your favorite coaster at the park". I'm more looking for news, teasers, and behind the scenes stuff. 3) Twitter- I very rarely use this, as most of the content on Facebook appears here too. I don't have an account, and only follow a few pages (mainly hockey reporters), which I can get through an app, so there's no need for an account. 4) I don't use or view apps like Instagram, Snapchat, etc. I feel like they are redundant to the rest of the social media apps, and don't provide much for me to get excited about. -
Best Kiddie coaster ever
coasterkid124 replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kozmo's Kurves has better airtime than some big coasters despite its small size. Bear Trax is another Miler coaster that is a good kiddie coaster. It is at Seabreeze in New York and has a nice little layout and setting. -
Ferrari World Discussion Thread
coasterkid124 replied to Captain Jack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't remember even hearing about this park until Formula Rossa came out. It's hard to judge a park's future based off of two coasters, even if one is the world's fastest. I'm just saying that in a way, the point is more evident than ever now that more unique concepts are being built. While I think that the Ferrari brand and owning the world's fastest coaster turns a lot of heads, the park is going above and beyond with the attractions. They aren't just going with the cheap cookie cutters. The park currently has (or is building): - The world's fastest coaster - A unique dueling coaster - Only Intamin Wing Coaster other than Skyrush (and largest loop record) - Only SFX coaster other than Gringott's - What we can assume to be a one of a kind shuttle from Intamin There's a lot of things there that not many other parks can boast having. The assumption back in 2010 could have been considered a little premature, but now through all of the development of the park, I would say it is very accurate. -
Ferrari World Discussion Thread
coasterkid124 replied to Captain Jack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ferrari World is going to become a big player in the industry. They are building more innovative rides than a lot of the big box chains even are. If the park was closer to home, I feel like I would visit it quite often once these few big projects are complete. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
coasterkid124 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really like the second half of Valravn's layout due to the elements never done before on a Dive Coaster. But the first half could have been done better. The drop into an Immelman has been seen on most other Dive Coasters, and then it just goes right into the MCBR. I was hoping that they would at least make the first half stick out from the other Dive Coasters. Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited that a DC is finally opening near me, but just remember that my expectations are high. I really want this thing to surprise me. I want those airtime hills to have good airtime, not just a butterfly in my stomach. I want the inversions to be a bit snappy and forceful. Considering that B&M has been "going back to their old ways" lately, there is a good chance it will be an awesome coaster. I just don't want people looking right next door to Raptor, and automatically saying "This thing's junk. Raptor is much older, but it's a lot better." I want it to be a big success for the park. Height and speed doesn't mean everything for a good ride. Look at how Dragster turned out. -
Joker does have an advantage with weather. Coasters being built elsewhere have a possible chance of a snow storm coming in and cooler temps/wind could slow down construction on other projects. Since Cali has a much better forecast, it would make sense to take more time on Joker by completing the other projects first.

^Hehe it would be a total catastrophe. I was surprised last year when my thought came true about speed slides next to Tornado. But my suggestion was down to Earth. The complex was relatively cheap and didn't take many resources to plan. Some people want the park to build a giant coaster at the snap of their fingers without thinking how much goes into the process. A coaster will come when the time is right. We just have to wait over this ownership controversy.

I want to beat the dead horse a little more, and say that Skyrush's restraints are the only thing about the ride that I don't like. Otherwise it's perfect. Maverick is near perfect for me too. Ride of Steel and Millennium Force could morph into one to become a perfect coaster. Replace RoS's helixes with Millennium's overbanks and add more airtime hills, like on RoS. That would be great.

Disney Line Jumping policy
coasterkid124 replied to Jason82807's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would say that it prohibited. It's the universal rule for most theme parks. I definitely wouldn't risk getting ejected from the park after paying so much to get in. -
Just my opinion. Everyone of course has their own thoughts and I respect that. I just think that Superman has a lot more to its layout than MF. MF gets really repetitive after the first drop with all the overbanks and drawn out hills. Superman has more pops of air and texture with the different curves. The only thing MF has extra is the height and speed, but that doesn't matter much to me when judging a coaster. I just hope that they can work with the trains to get a better ride. Somehow even with first generation trains, I've never had a bad ride on Millennium.
-
If Superman can win back #1, it would be a huge success for the park. Saying that you have the number one coaster in the world gives you a lot of tug when it comes to marketing and advertising. Number two only just makes a guest wonder what the number one coaster is. IMO, Superman beats Millennium Force by a long shot whether it's themed to Superman, Bizarro, or even Wonder Woman. That's the opinion of a lot of people. But the experience of the ride effects rankings a lot. Hopefully the park isn't just slapping paint on here and removing the speakers. If they want number one back, they have to make sure the trains (which are still fairly new) are running in tip-top condition.

IAAPA 2015 Live Coverage!
coasterkid124 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would advise against it. I know that this post will go a lot "off-topic" but I am just trying to help you out here as I am now in the engineering field and was in a bit of a similar situation myself. $385 dollars is a lot of money for a college student. Even for myself, I got a full ride scholarship to my university, but I still had a lot of expenses. I had a car, an apartment, bills, book fees, etc. IAAPA would not benefit you a lot as an engineering student. It's not a backstage tour, it's an industry convention. Will the designers and engineers answer any questions you have? Yes, but other than that they won't have an hour long chat with you about how coasters work. That's what the internet is for. They are there to sell their products to benefit themselves and their businesses. I think that they would rather go home knowing they sold some products, than pleasing some fanboy by having a conversation with them. If you want to learn more about coasters and how they work, I would suggest a backstage tour somewhere. Not only would it benefit you more because it's a learning experience, but it would likely cost a lot less. I know that BGW has done a cheap backstage tour in years past, and it is worth the price in duration, and the amount you get to see. Even a lot of parks will allow you to take a backstage tour if they do not offer one. It will cost more, but again this would be the proper time and place to ask questions about things. For instance, Darien Lake doesn't offer a backstage tour to the GP, but I know that a few years ago, a member here called and was able to book one with maintenance. He was able to get a sneak preview on a lot of things and get a lot of questions answered. So just remember, you can do a lot more with that amount of money. IAAPA is not a carnival, it's a serious event. You won't get into the amusement industry because you are a huge fan or know a lot of trivia. Studying, being good at designing, and hard work is what will. It's a hard industry to get into, and a lot of people who do may not even be interested in amusement rides at first.
