Dollywood Discussion Thread

A drop tower there has been my theory for years and I have mentioned it a few times in this thread.. Dollywood has a "plan" for that area or they would have tore it down already imo.. So I second the drop tower guess BUT NOW when will it be built? haha Also, last year a spokesperson for Dollywood said they won't be doing anymore coasters for a while but who knows how true that will be -

Mystery Mine always has issues but so does any coaster of that style that I have seem BTW shame on you Dollywood for the "hidden" $2 fee for easy 2play now!! I was meaning to post this a few days back when I renewed but I didn't see any mention of the fee until I had to click the box on the contract.. Please don't tell me you are going to start nickle and dimeing us like other parks!! EDIT: Ok after looking over the Season Ticket ordering page there is a section of small print at the bottom that says $2 fee per pass for easy to play. BUT it is small and the "Contract" page says "Finance Charge" $0.. I know, it's just a two dollar fee but the way its hidden surprises me from a place like Dollywood! And I do know this fee is new.. $2 isn't nothing to finance though BUT it's the principle that got me -

Lame.. They doing it like six flags where they check everyone at entry or like Disney where they only send people with bags to the checkpoint?? Just curious.. I hope like Disney!!! I have a small packable bag I take into Disney for this reason.. I load up my cargo pockets and then put it all in the small backpack that also fits in my pockets when I get inside the park haha -

I personally don't think there are any issues with the ride, I just believe they are behind and my bet is that it'll open a week and a half late.. Dollywood themselves said it would start testing around Valentine's day and as far as we know, the track wasn't even finished by then.. Dollywood delayed the announcement in hopes they could catch up but it didn't happen.. My two cents anyway.. I bet it'll open close to two weeks late because if I put the pieces together that we know, I'm betting they are two weeks behind schedule -
The thing is that they can only hire as many people who apply. A lot of parks struggle to find enough employees to fill positions in the early parts of the season...even if they have the budget and desire to hire more. Exactly.. Dollywood was understaffed last year pretty much all season.. They where hiring pretty much anyone who would apply.. The area around here was just so saturated with part time jobs, there weren't enough people to fill them all.. I'm sure Six Flags has the same issues and even worse because they don't have the camper workers Dollywood gets

Keep an eye on your emails.. I received an email with a coupon for the basic Dining Plan for $34.99.. I was allowed to buy two at that price (one for each of my passes).. Basic only gives you lunch and a snack but I have never seen the basic below $50.. I'll easily pay for it with the amount of times I go!! The new gold is currently $84/person (it's available to anyone with a season pass not just those with a coupon for that price) but right now it includes a Bottle for free.. The basic for $34 though is a heck of a deal. My code was only good until 2 today so it's not a very long code

My GF and I go up for the entire weekend, several times a year (we are three hours away).. We always look fwd to Sunday mornings the best! Never any lines until about 2 or 3 and then very manageable lines.. That's normally when we head back home though. Few hours there on Sunday and you can ride everything multiple times easy!
-
I went last year on opening day.. Not bad at all.. Now their official full opening weekend (when they open new major rides and such and start being open everyday) is a different story!! That weekends normally in May.. It has been very packed last few years This could also be BC that weekend is usually around memorial day

I'm still hoping to make it down to Holiday in the park this year! If I go it'll be the Monday after Christmas (if they are open).. I am heading to Disney for new years on Tuesday.. It would be nice to knock 4 hours out of the Disney drive by going to GA for HITP.. The downside is BC of Disney, I can't afford a trip to GA just for HITP so I hope I can fit it into my Disney trip! Leave HITP around 10 drive another hour or so towards Disney and then spend the night.. If I do that I would only have about 4 hours to drive on Tuesday morning. I'd love that!

Sunday was really dead!! And they had all trains running on the coasters.. Trains where leaving with two or three riders only haha.. at least until 3:00 they where.. I left at 3:00 (I was there three hours Sunday) and there had to be less than 200 cars in the lot.. I'm surprised they didn't close Sunday an they may have! I was able to ride superman several times.. They had to lock me in manually so I said "just leave me locked in until someone comes" they did that I really love how SFOG lets u hop back on if there are open seats. Dollywood is so uncool about that and ALWAYS makes you walk back around.. SFOG has never made me get back in line and has even allowed me to hop in any empty seat on the coaster.. Yeah all their decorations where much bloodier than years pass! The popcorn machine is just the tip of the iceberg ha-ha

Went back today and it was actually less crowded than pass night.. Rides where walkons on day (except for DDD).. They even closed early tonight at 10.. I assume that was due to attendance being so low (they said it was due to rain BUT it has only been a light drizzle on and off all night) But last two days have been a blast! They did an awesome job with decorations.. The park was creepier than years past.. Great monsters who seem to travel more around the park.. Even at the front gate!! Had a few welcome changes to the haunted houses, I'll let you all see them for yourself.. Not sure how I feel about them, especially Terror Train but they where welcome.. Overall tons of fun!! Depending on weather I might go back for a few hours tomorrow.. Right now rain is supposed to stop by Noon.
-
So far it hasn't been bad.. No rain.. A little mist here and there but nothing to get you wet. I am here now.. It's keeping the haunted house lines down but as the night goes on its getting pretty crowded.. As of thirty mins ago everything has been operating but no Superman for some reason.. Might be open now though Love how they have changed up some of the haunted attractions Pretty slippery though! I love watching people run from monsters and slip lol

I came back from a two day three night trip last month and we did magic kingdom one day and then animal kingdom and HS the second.. Spent the first evening at Epcot but just for 2 hours.. Epcot needs a lot of time due to its size.. You probably don't want to rush Magic Kingdom either (however they will have their Christmas stuff going on so you might want to swing by just to see it) So I agree with AK and HS We felt we missed a lot and wanted to do more in Epcot so I wouldn't suggest trying to rush it nor magic kingdom.. We did everything in AK in the morning and most of HS that afternoon/night and then spent 2 hours in magic kingdom again our last night so three parks in one day ha-ha. Magic Kingdom was open much later than the others. We just rode the bus from HS to Magic Kingdom (so u will probably have the option to swing by MK for an hour or two just to say you went)

Yup that's not this weekend but next thanks though ha-ha! A few weeks ago I got online and saw they did change it from fright fest preview night Also if I remember correctly the fright fest stuff was free a few years ago when pass holder night was on preview night.. Then the started charging for it even on preview night.. So it doesn't bother me that they moved it back a weekend bc I like the first weekend in Oct better anyways lol

Yup, that's like our weekend getaways every few month's.. Something we love to do and have done for the past several years.. Everyone needs small getaways everynow and then. I can usually get a hotel for under $150 for both nights and with season passes its a good cheap way to get out Holiday in the park was a goal last year but we ran out of time and never made it. Something kept coming up! I even had to cancel our rooms one weekend haha Good to know they run the coasters even that cold! Dollywood closes theirs at about 40 ha-ha.. I'm trying to plan a trip down to Disney this Christmas as well but we hope to fit one night in for Holiday in the park.. I love park Christmas events (I can possibly do this on my way down to Disney.. Just leave a day early as I have to drive through Atlanta down to Disney.. I am planning this trip the week between Christmas and New Year)

Well I live in Knoxville but love six flags so me and my GF usually do this a few times a year. Early summer, late summer, and sometimes fall ha-ha we try to make an entire weekend out of it when we go. Yeah the past few years season pass holder night has been packed!! But I guess it's bc you can bring a friend??
