  1. I agree with this sentiment. I (perhaps unfairly so) always viewed Astroworld as a "secondhand" park - an unofficial dumping ground for rides other SF parks didn't want. Seeing how nice it actually was in some of these pictures helps understand why some view the park as such a loss. SFGAdv had a BIG gang reputation in the late 80s, but fortunately was able to shed it over time. Shame Astroworld was never able to shake that stigma.
  2. Woah, if they did something like the aviary from either movie that would be absolutely amazing. Maybe they can incorporate a section where the train picks up a random tourist and drops them into a huge mosasaurus tank. #NeverForgetZara
  3. The ride is going to ride the same if it was red, blue, plaid, or polka dot. I really don't care what color it is. That being said, a plaid color scheme on a coaster is long overdue (Paul Bunyan:The Ride).
  4. Great Adventure's Buccaneer is fun and all, but to me it's one of the weakest swinging ships out there.
  5. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining about it, I just think it's a little sad. If there's a ride I'm excited about, I'll every so often drop in to see what sort of progress has been made, but then I move on. I don't check every hour or so and gleefully post updates about the latest five bolts that have been moved onto the construction site. I try to live as well rounded of a life as possible; coasters are only a small part of it. When I check on updates, it usually goes like this: "Oh. Pretty cool." *continues living life* I certainly believe that to each their own, and I do appreciate following a project from afar, but I will never, ever understand being so fixated on it like some people here.
  6. Robb means that hasnt heard anything about Dragon Challenge being refurbed like Hulk, Not that they are tearing it down, if thats what you are things. I feel he was implying the coaster's presence may be short-lived, based on the upcoming need for maintenance (like Hulk) and Rowling's well-documented hatred for the ride. I may be wrong, but that's how I saw it.
  7. ^^ I've a feeling you're going to be pretty disappointed if Robb's implying what I'm fairly certain of he's implying.
  8. ^ Surprised no one name that crane Clifford.
  9. Well butter my buns and call me a biscuit, that's pretty sweet right there!
  10. Did I miss something somewhere? Two other coasters?
  11. I like the animated GIF idea. I'm interested to see a completed version once construction wraps up.
  12. I think it's pretty impressive that once work is done on the coaster in a particular area, they've already taken steps to reopen / reintegrate that section into the park, rather than just keep it walled off until the whole thing is done. Helps build the anticipation!
  13. I wish this philosophy could creep over into the Cedar Point thread.
  14. - Go during the week, and if at all possible, while school is still in session. Monday through Thursdays, May/June. - Kingda Ka and Superman probably generate the longest lines, with El Toro, Nitro, Batman, and Zumanjaro not too far behind. It all depends on the day, though. - Flash Pass FTW, especially if you're not going to be back anytime soon. If you're going to be there for three full days, you may be able to do Flash Pass on one day and skip it the other two, depending on your budget and crowds. - Honestly, no. Not within a ten-minute drive. If you are willing to drive: - Plumstead Grill - Plumstead NJ - Esconditos - Freehold NJ - Several chain restaurants off of both exits 5A and 28A off of 1-195.
  15. This almost exactly mirrors my own experience. Early entry is a wonderful thing, take full advantage of it if you're staying on-site. Laff Trakk is a fun one-and-done for the most part, and the funhouse mirrors in the queue are a nice touch to pass the time. Due to the limited capacity of the trains the Fahrenheit line fills up fast and is slow-moving; I'd definitely recommend trying to take care of that one as early in the day as possible. +1. This is the best advice you could receive. I did the same thing last year when staying onsite at the Hershey Lodge. Early entry is the best way to get multiple re-rides on the coasters near the entrance (SKYRUSH FTW), then head immediately back to the rear of the park to get re-rides on those rides while the rest of the crowd meanders through.
  16. Love this. There's only eleven weekends this entire year that have no operating hours at all. Short of being in a climate that would allow for year-round operation, this is pretty much as good as it can possibly get. I agree with this. Aside from including these two rides next year, I really don't foresee them expanding into new areas of the park. I'm more curious about modifications they make to the decorations / entertainment lineup.
  17. ^ Ditto, around 5:30PM! Yay for January coaster riding in New Jersey!!
  18. So now that the year is over... SPECULATION!!! Harry over at GAHistory had this photo from his latest trip report: The Asylum terror trail has been completely removed. I don't recall how long it's been there, but it has definitely been there since at least 2013 (according to Google Maps). It's not something I've ever heard of being removed and rebuilt before, either. Thoughts on if this is related to a smaller refurbishment project of some kind, or the beginning of something great?
  19. I will say I had a fun and pleasant experience at SFA when I revisited in 2013. However, it's got a LONG way to go before I'll remotely consider it in the same league as the other regional theme parks in the area. I think this is the only thing that's comparable between the two parks. I'd argue Dorney, with all it's issues, is significantly better than SFA.
  20. Top Thrill Dragster. Me: "Wheeeeeeeee" *into Lake Erie*
