Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
And so it begins... A small part of me is hoping it's something totally unique and different and not found anywhere else, but if this indeed turns out to be a massive B&M Giga that can match (or top) Fury's awesomeness, I won't complain a single bit. -
I know what you mean. I find it interesting that this coaster doesn't even really touch the old Deja Vu plot of land (I suppose they want to continue using that area for Fright Fest). West Coast Racers definitely gives me "Silver Bullet" vibes in that it's built on top of everything. More and more track and supports are showing up every week. I would still be shocked if this is open before Labor Day.

New lighted coaster wheels.
thrillseeker4552 replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah I've seen those on Tatsu in person several times since they were installed. They look great. Although in terms of that video, I was more impressed with some of those cool drone shots of Tatsu! There were some angles in there you never get to see! -
I have found that Floorless coasters are by far B&M's most "temperamental" coaster type when it comes to smoothness. I have never ridden a rough Invert, Hyper, Flying, Wing, Dive, etc. But the Floorless coasters can really bounce around a lot (especially on edge seats in the middle rows). Scream is my most ridden Floorless among the 7 or 8 I've done, and my rides on it are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes it runs very well and others it feels like it has octagonal wheels. I enjoyed Dominator quite a bit and thought it ran fine, but it's not my favorite Floorless because I love the snappy zero-G rolls, which Dominator lacks. Given that B&M does Dive Coasters with vest restraints now, I am confident that any new ground-up Floorless, especially if built by Cedar Fair, will include vest restraints.

If you have a meal plan / drink cup added on to a Platinum Pass, it works at all parks. The benefits are tied to the pass, so if your pass works elsewhere, so will your benefits. In 2017 my family did a Carowinds - Kings Dominion - Kings Island - Cedar Point trip (with our home park and Platinum Passes from Knott's) and our meal plans and drink cups worked at all parks no problem. I suppose it's possible things have changed in the last two years, but I am certain the option exists! -

A front row, sunset ride on Cannibal today. -
Lagoon Discussion Thread

I would expect moderate to heavy crowds on a September weekend. It depends on if Frightmares has started yet since that draws lots of people. The park is definitely doable on crowded days though thanks to the wonderful single rider lines on Cannibal and Wicked as well as overall solid operations for the major rides. Honestly, the worst part about crowded days at Lagoon is navigating through people on the midway since the park has no queue space for the major coasters, flat rides, or food services. On any crowded day, the lines spill into the walkways and can get rather obnoxious to deal with. Cannibal is an excellent coaster. I wouldn't say it's "top 10 in the country" or anything of the like, but it does what it's supposed to very well and has some unique elements you really can't find on other coasters. I like it mostly for its originality and weirdness. -
Everybody has that "special coaster" that sits close to their heart and Montezooma's Revenge is that coaster for me. It was my first looping coaster (and first "big" coaster in general), and to this day is probably my most ridden coaster ever. I'm so lucky I grew up with it at my home park. Hopefully it lives for many more years!

My vote is for 2019. This makes sure there is no ambiguity as to which poll is the latest one, which IMO is more important than properly representing the year of the latest coasters included in the poll. Often times the latest coasters may not even appear in the "top" lists (2018 is likely an exception due to Steel Vengeance), so this is the lesser of two evils when compared to "Announcing the TPR 2018 Coaster Poll!" in... Spring of 2019. Just my two cents. I see the pros and cons for both though.

I agree about the vest restraints. While I do believe the dive coasters are better without them, I don’t think they make the ride “bad.” I enjoyed Valravn much more than I thought I would and hope to experience Yukon Striker someday too. -
The wonderful thing about Southern California is there is a park for everyone's taste. You want tons of awesome coasters? Six Flags. Amazing, immersive atmosphere with excellent operations and loads of magic? Disney. A little bit of both? Knott's. Not to mention Universal if you like screens and Harry Potter, Seaworld if you like the ocean and animals (and now coasters as well, given where they're headed), Legoland for the littler ones, and an assortment of small parks and FECs. I think ranking all of these parks against each other is completely unfair.

I would question if Goliath is a people eater. It has the potential to be, but with seat belts, several seats going empty every dispatch, and frequent two-minute dispatches, I would say it is quite average at best. Every B&M in the park (when running at least two trains) and Twisted Colossus definitely have faster moving lines. But their queues are nowhere near as enjoyable as Goliath's, so pick your poison.

It's nice to see RMC's new train design get picked up again on a new coaster. Anyone know what the selling point differences are? Is one more articulate than the other? I'm just a little curious since Hakugei and Twisted Cyclone use the old design. -
Love the color scheme. It reminds me of Tatsu, except for the black supports. Also, completely nerdy and useless fact, but this is the first floorless conversion that actually decreased the capacity (not that this matters at SFA, but interesting nonetheless). Mantis/Rougarou maintained 8 cars per train, likewise Vortex/Patriot maintained 7. This one went from 7 on the stand-up to 6 on the floorless.

I think the reset feature on the second launch is pretty fascinating too. When the animation of the ride was first released, and knowing the weakness of Mack LSMs, I was very curious how the reset was going to work on the second launch. I figured there wouldn't be enough power in the LSMs to simply launch the train from 0 to 50 mph over that small airtime hill. It seems it needs some initial velocity in order to hit that speed at the end. Cool to watch. -
To be honest, I have forgotten SFMM is building a new coaster like 5 times now. The fact that Copperhead has been open for a week, Yukon Striker has been testing, Steel Curtain is nearing the end of construction, Maxx Force has lots of track and columns up already, and West Coast Racers is JUST starting on foundations makes it easy to forget about. ...and Six Flags Magic Mountain is one of my home parks. I went in December and March and literally didn't even care about stalking the construction because it was all dirt. I forgot it was even happening. Hopefully it opens this year! lol

Kentucky Kingdom wins in my opinion. I lost it when I first saw that! Lol
