  1. ^A few weeks ago I would have called you crazy, but you may be right. I was planning to go to Cedar Point and Kings Island for my 21st birthday in July, but I think I should really just law low this summer and save up money for an even bigger trip next summer after I graduate college. I think it's risky to plan anything this summer. I would honestly be surprised if Holiwood Nights even happens on those August dates. It was a good move by Cedar Fair to extend everything into 2021, and hopefully others will follow. I really, really hope I am wrong. There are so many awesome 2020 coasters waiting to open. But we ought to at least consider an extremely delayed or even nonexistent season...
  2. ^Yes. It seems that parks that wouldn't even be open yet anyway (like Cedar Point and MiA) are still extending all 2020 passes through 2021. Great news!
  3. I have never gotten sick on any ride, ever. If I am sick at a theme park, it is usually from eating something overly cheesy or gooey (which usually affects my stomach). The worst I will get from rides is headaches but that is usually from dehydration and not the ride itself. If I drink lots of water and eat right, I can ride basically any ride at a park and feel fine.
  4. ^I think it is entirely possible for them to re-use Green Lantern: First Flight. I think the Joker is also a possible theme. But yeah, SFMM couldn't even open WCR before the end of the year. Given this pandemic, I would be extremely shocked if this new coaster opens by summer 2021.
  5. I would have said Maverick too, if that was based on my 2012 and 2014 visits. I absolutely despise those hard Intamin shoulder straps. When I went back in 2017, Maverick instantly became a top 5 coaster for me. I feel the same way about I305. I never rode it with the original restraints, but I am confident I would not like the ride nearly as much as I do if it didn't have those soft straps. Same also goes for Storm Runner and Fahrenheit.
  6. If Possessed is getting removed, I am willing to bet Cedar Fair will scrap it. But then again, if they relocated it to Kings Dominion, that would be hilariously ironic to replace a problematic Intamin launched inverted coaster with... a problematic Intamin launched inverted coaster. lol
  7. This is great news. The park could really use a modern wooden coaster (or just a new coaster in general), even if it comes at the expense of Possessed. It is the oldest operating Intamin Impulse coaster after all, and we know that Cedar Fair is on a spree of removing high-maintenance rides. Cedar Fair has not worked with Gravity Group yet (assuming that is the manufacturer), so this will be an interesting project to watch unfold. It is refreshing to read some good news out of the industry.
  8. Given the severity of COVID-19 in the New York and New Jersey areas, this is not too surprising. Hoping everyone in those areas stay safe and healthy.
  9. Dang, Sidewinder Safar is only 8 dollars?! I want one!
  10. I would not be surprised if Sidewinder Safari gets pushed back. We know Jersey Devil is still happening this year due to rapid construction progress. CraZanity at Six Flags Mexico also briefly opened just before the park closed. Everything else is up in the air, potentially including Aquaman at Six Flags Over Texas. I predict that the larger additions (like Jersey Devil and Aquaman) will still happen, but all the small flat rides and water park additions will get pushed back, in addition to Sidewinder Safari. I am very interested to see how all of this plays out...
  11. Happy Birthday, Viper! I am glad it has lasted this long, but I know its final day is sooner rather than later. I always make sure to ride it every time I visit!
  12. Since all parks are closed and we really have nothing better to do, I may as well speculate too. Carowinds is a fun park to speculate because Cedar Fair has invested greatly in this park, and you can likely count on new additions pretty frequently. I really think Carowinds' next coaster addition should be a GCI along the lines of Mystic Timbers. Neither Kings Dominion nor SFOG have modern wooden coasters, so it would be a nice fit for the park and the surrounding area. It can definitely be different than Thunderhead and Lightning Rod (and Dollywood as a whole is just WAY different than Carowinds). RMC Hurler would also be cool, but Carowinds is surrounded by parks with awesome RMC coasters: SFOG, KD, and Dollywood. Of course it is still possible and that doesn't really mean anything, but I imagine it would have to stand out from the rest. I also think a B&M Dive could work really well. In terms of removals, I don't think Nighthawk has many years left. I am actually surprised it outlived Firehawk given that it is the prototype model and is one year older. I also think Vortex will either get removed or Floorless-ified in the next couple years. Both of those coasters leaving could open up a lot of space in the center/front of the park. Who knows...
  13. As of my August 2017 visit, this is my list: 1. Maverick 2. Millennium Force 3. Top Thrill Dragster 4. Magnum XL-200 5. Valravn 6. GateKeeper 7. Raptor 8. Wicked Twister 9. Rougarou 10. Gemini 11. Blue Streak 12. Iron Dragon 13. Corkscrew 14. Cedar Creek Mine Ride If life somewhat resumes to "normal" by mid-July, that is when I will be visiting Cedar Point (and Kings Island) again! But who the hell knows what will happen by then.
  14. I have a feeling the parks will eventually re-open in the summer, but with new rules and policies in place. For example: 1. Spacing people out in queue lines (for rides and food facilities) 2. Periodically stopping the loading process to sanitize seats and restraints 3. Providing more spaced-out and open seating areas 4. Sanitizing stations / reminders to wash hands I think the chances of parks being closed for the entire summer season is pretty small, but things will most likely be different once they re-open. And looking at the bigger picture, I think this entire pandemic will change the way parks, and public places in general, operate when it comes to sanitation practices and the physical distancing of guests. EDIT: Perhaps this post fits more in the COVID-19 thread, but this definitely applies to Cedar Point and how some of their queue lines cram people together like sardines.
  15. Intimidator 305. I tend to prefer rides with crazy positive Gs and whippy transitions over pure airtime. I also like height and speed. I305 is the only coaster I've ridden that does both impressively. A few honorable mentions are Skyrush, Fury 325, El Toro, and Maverick.
  16. What a great move. I am thrilled about this. Here is my question: does this apply to those who haven't purchased a pass yet? I wonder if somebody purchases a pass in, say, July... will that new pass be valid through 2021 as well? I currently have a Gold Pass and am considering paying the difference to upgrade to Platinum since I may visit CP and KI this July. But of course, that trip could get canned if things are still a mess by then. It would be nice if my upgraded Platinum Pass remains valid and I can go in 2021 instead.
  17. ^Me too! I especially loved their rap battle with Worlds of Fun.
  18. I think we all saw this coming. Disappointing, but not surprising. I am glad to see they are providing a few extra perks for members. I can't wait to visit the park again this fall.
  19. ^Now that you mention it, I noticed the same thing. That's good. Sometimes it took way too long to unbuckle the old seatbelts.
  20. Interesting! Thank you to everybody involved with the poll. It is nice to read through the results and discuss something other than COVID-19! I will admit I am surprised to see Untamed at the top of the steel list. It does look like a great ride, and it gives me major Twisted Timbers vibes, which is one of my all-time favorite roller coasters. Also, looking at the wood list makes me realize how many elite woodies I have still yet to ride. I have done El Toro, but dang, I need to get on Voyage, Outlaw Run, and Lightning Rod at some point!
  21. Does anybody know what their next park is at this point? I am in SoCal until the end of April. SWSD is still only listing as "closed through the end of the month," so if they open sometime in April, that will be my next park. The same goes for SFMM. Unfortunately I won't get back to Knott's for a while. They are closed through at least mid-May, and I won't be back in SoCal until October or November. I will be spending the summer in Utah, so I am sure Lagoon will open by the time I am there. So if nothing in SoCal opens in April, Lagoon is likely my next park! I am also in the early stages of planning a Cedar Point and Kings Island trip for mid-July. It has been three years since I have visited either of those parks, and with Steel Vengeance and now Orion, they are really calling my name. Assuming this coronavirus is nearly gone by then, that trip will 99% happen. I've got some extra money saved up and it's time! So to answer the question of the thread, who the heck knows.
  22. I look forward to visiting the park again soon. My university was offering refunds to leave housing, so I booked it and went home to California last week. I'm here until the start of May (and it looks like all parks here will be closed for all of April), so hopefully Lagoon is open when I return to SLC for work in May. I am crossing my fingers that most parks can get back on their feet by June. We'll get through this.
  23. I am a little torn on how to put together a list. Different manufacturers give totally different rides. Also, to me, a hyper coaster is more of a "style" and not a strict 200-foot threshold. For example, I consider rides like La Ronde's Goliath and Hollywood Dream to be hyper coasters, but not Cannibal or Xcelerator. Regardless, I am going to group mine by manufacturer because I feel that is the most fair way to rank them. And even though I feel like gigas are just a sub-group of hyper coasters, I will exclude them. Intamins: 1. Skyrush (by far) 2. Superman the Ride 3. Superman: Ride of Steel B&Ms: 1. Nitro 2. Goliath SFOG 3. Intimidator 4. Diamondback Morgan, Arrow, and the rest: 1. Magnum XL-200 2. Desperado 3. Titan 4. Goliath SFMM 5. Steel Force
  24. Firebird. It was really bad as a Stand-Up, and it's somehow even worse as a Floorless. Which sucks because the new color scheme is among my all-time favorites.
  25. I have now ridden every Floorless in the country except Kraken (including the 3 conversions), so here is my list. 1. Superman Krypton Coaster 2. Medusa 3. Dominator 4. Bizarro 5. Scream 6. Batman the Dark Knight 7. Hydra 8. Rougarou 9. Patriot 10. Firebird
