What are the chances of an ECB happening this year? -
I only have about 7 coaster states but this seems fun so I'll give it a whirl: New Jersey- El Toro (shocker I know) Pennsylvania- Skyrush Ohio- Maverick Florida- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Connecticut- Boulder Dash Georgia- Great American Scream Machine New York- Alpine Bobsled (Great Escape), only have about 3 credits in this state from when I was little

Insane Coaster Wars Season 3

I'm almost positive I heard that the Boss and Mr. Freeze would be on it from SFStl. Thought I heard something about Outlaw Run too. -

I'm sorry but people complaining about Bumper Boats are just wrong. They're bad Bumper Boats anyway and you're getting a freaking coaster in its place! This really convinced me that no matter what ride you take out, you're gonna make someone unhappy. I guess people have a hard time letting go or seeing change. -

I live in NJ so I can tell you first hand that NY is much worse to live in. I always see Staten Island residents crossing the bridge to our malls, grocery stores and gas stations. Plus NY is much more crowded and the cost of living is a lot higher. I personally find NJ very convenient to live in because we're near everything but I admit, the winter weather and the people are definitely negatives. My family has been daydreaming about living in Florida or San Diego all winter . -

I hope the Knoebels family game plan is not to acquire more visitors from New Jersey. Honestly they should be going after that market especially Northern Jersey. We're the next state over and they're really the only true family park around so if they got word out to more Jersey residents, they could have a nice increase in attendance with this ride. -

I thought I saw that Impulse was going to be a launch like that coaster in Lagoon? If that's not the case then it seems exactly like Fahrenheit to me. -

Very excited with this announcement. Looks like another great coaster for their lineup that should get them more of the GP crowd. I think this was big for them to catch up to Hershey and GAdv a little. I realize they'll never get the crowds they get but I think this coaster will help get their name out more since no GP in New Jersey have really heard of Knoebels. Also is it me or does this coaster remind you of Fahrenheit at Hershey except with a launch? The layout just looks very similar to me. Still Knoebels keeps giving me reasons to go back so I'm very glad to hear this . -
Trip to Missouri
yankeeman311 replied to yankeeman311's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I actually like this idea a lot and I might just do that. I was concerned about not being able to get there for opening which is why I hesitated on this for day 1 but my dad could rest at the park too since he isn't crazy about coasters. Another option I'm considering is taking the advice of those above saying to fly into a different airport. I might fly into Springfield on day 1 instead to be closer to Branson but the only thing is this would make the rent-a-car cost an additional $300 when this is really a budget vacation. But if I stick with St. Louis to fly into I think I'm definitely going to take the advice of swapping SFStl and City Museum so thank you for this suggestion. -
Trip to Missouri
yankeeman311 replied to yankeeman311's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I appreciate this suggestion but I can't change the Cardinals game. It's gotta be Monday or Tuesday because we're really going down there to see the Yankees. Plus the Royals aren't home until Monday so this leaves me little flexibility for the baseball games. -
Hi guys. I posted in a previous topic on suggestions on where to go for my summer trip. I've decided to go to Missouri in order to see Kauffman and Busch Stadiums. I'm going with my dad from New Jersey and we're both big Yankee/baseball fans. I've been planning out an itinerary and I would appreciate it if I could get feedback on it. The dates for this would be Sat May 24-Wed May 28. Day 1- Arrive in St. Louis at around 11 am local time and pick up the rent-a-car. Stop in City Museum then drive to Branson Day 2- Silver Dollar City then drive to Kansas City Day 3- Worlds of Fun then Royals game at 7 Day 4- Possibly visit Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Drive to St. Louis for Cardinals game Day 5- Six Flags St. Louis then fly home for a 5:30 flight as of now A couple of questions. Do you think the first 3 days of my itinerary would be too hectic for my dad? He's a 57 year old man not in terrible shape that's an early bird but does like to have time to rest/nap a little. If so I might cut out Worlds of Fun. Is it possible to do SFStl in 4 hours without a flashpass? With one? I might have to cut this out too but I'd only have 4 hours for this park if I can do it since the airport is an hour away and my planned flight is 5:30. Lastly any suggestions on when to book flights/hotels would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This. I've been to a decent amount of waterparks and Storm is one of the best and one of the most intense slides I've ever been on. I gotta say a lot of my favorite slides come from Wet n Wild. Great park overall. About Aqua Racer, I really question why they didn't just take out the old mat slide instead of Bubba Tub. I actually much preferred Bubba Tub to it and that mat slide is one of the worst mat slides I've been on. It's dated and you don't need 2 of them.

My first (and only) car was a 2011 Nissan Altima that at the time was brand new. Managed to keep the new car smell for a long time and arguably might still have it. All in all it's been a nice car so far.

Honestly a week should be plenty of time especially around those dates. Disney doesn't get too crowded in early November so you should be fine. Are you planning on park hopping or only going to 1 park a day? Either way you probably only need 2 days at Magic Kingdom, 1 at Epcot unless you want to really stroll in World Showcase and maybe 1 day at Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom if that. I suggest planning 1 day in the middle of the week to relax because trust me, Disney gets tiring. As for where to stay that entirely depends on your budget because there's a wide difference in prices. If you have the money, go for Grand Floridian. Best hotel Disney has imo. A couple of restaurants I'll suggest are Be our Guest in Magic Kingdom and 50s Cafe in Hollywood Studios. Really enjoyed both of those last time I was there. I'll be more than happy to answer any other questions.

The official NFL Discussion Thread
yankeeman311 replied to spaceace12's topic in Random, Random, Random
I was actually AT the game last night. While the score wasn't good, I was in awe of how dominant Seattle was. Probably the best game by a team I've ever seen. Gotta ask the hardcore football fans, do you think this Seattle team is one of the 10 best in NFL history? They had a 13-3 year, didn't give up more than 24 points in any game this year in an era that has all the rules to the offensive advantage and held statistically the greatest offense in NFL history to 8 freaking points! They reminded me of the '86 Giants a bit where the defense is dominant and the offense is at least good unlike the '00 Ravens or '02 Bucs. I just want to know if I'm overrating them or are they as good as I think they are. -
Post your milestone coasters
yankeeman311 replied to bgwfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I found out my 50th was actually Magnum XL 200. Considering its in my personal top 5, I unintentionally picked a nice milestone coaster. Forgot I rode a coaster I checked off this year over a decade ago so that moved everything down 1. I'm now at 74 credits after going to Hersheypark and Lake Compounce after I wrote my last post. My 75th credit will be my first new ride this year. I'm gonna try to make that be Bizarro (SFNE) or Outlaw Run . -
Baseball and Roller Coaster Fans

First of all, good for you. Go Yankees! Second of all you've got to explain #3 to me. The Cubs are playing the Yankees at home on the 21st... is it at all possible to leave a few days earlier and go to the Yankees and Cubs game at Wrigley on the 21st? The next day they start a 4 game set with the White Sox which seems to be the reason you're going but you're passing up a great opportunity by not being there on the 21st. No offense to any White Sox fans but Wrigley is clearly the stadium you really want to visit. Wrigley and Fenway should be on every baseball fans bucket list. The fact that it's so easy to see the Yankees play at Wrigley and US Cellular Field in back to back series makes leaving a few days earlier a no brainer if it's at all possible. Trust me if that was possible, me and my dad would've booked Chicago as soon as the schedule came out. Chicago was our first choice but the problem is I'm graduating from my county college on the 21st which means I can't see Wrigley. I decided to wait on going to Chicago since I wouldn't be able to see Wrigley. If it was up to me I wouldn't go to my graduation ceremony but my mom really wants me to be there. I was a little annoyed at the conflict of dates myself because like you said, that would've worked out perfectly as a Yankees fan. Hence my decision to go to St. Louis/Kansas City instead. I figure seeing the Yankees play the Cardinals was my next best option plus Outlaw Run . Now that I made my decision if people would mind answering some local questions it'd be greatly appreciated. How crowded would you guys expect SDC to be the day before Memorial Day and do I need a full day for the park? I'm trying to decide whether to stay in Branson for the night or drive to Kansas City. If I wanted to add WOF or SFStl to my agenda, how long do you think it'd take to go through each of those parks? This would be a big factor since I'd only have 5-7 hours max for each of those. Also any advice on when to book a flight, rent-a-car or hotels would be great. -
The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
yankeeman311 replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My best first ride experience was Maverick. I really didn't expect such a small coaster to feel so intense and out of control. Definitely used the height bias on it and Maverick proved me wrong big time. My worst first ride experience happened in the same park on Millennium Force. I mainly traveled to CP to ride that and I felt like it was just all speed in a bad way. I left the ride thinking why does that ride get so much hype? -
Yeah, but at Cedar Point they have exceptional coasters, such as Millennium Force, Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, and there are other ones as well that are also great. SFMM has some decent coasters, but a lot of them are just there to boost their coaster count. And Cedar Point definitely caters to families and SFMM doesn't cater to anyone who is too short to ride the major coasters. I know you weren't trying to start a debate of park vs. park, but Cedar Point is honestly in a completely different league than SFMM and a really poor example to use. I have a different opinion than yours, but I respect your opinion and I'm glad your family enjoys the park. I don't mean to make this more into a park vs. park thing but I'm going to. People have to remember CP has no real competition around them and SFMM is right next to elite parks. They have Disneyland, USH and Knotts as parks that cater to families so they need their own target audience which is teenagers. Teenagers want coasters and extreme rides so that's what the park gives them. I have never been to the park but xyz has and has often so I can understand his complaints. He wants the park to be great so I think in order to do that, they have to maintain the rides they do have better instead of just going for records. It's ok to have focus on coasters and thrill rides but the quality still has to be there for those rides and more enthusiasts agree with xyz when they say it's not high quality.

My Top 10 of 2013: 10. Saving Mr. Banks- I felt the Disney magic in this movie. Emma Thompson deserves best actress imo. Her and Tom Hanks were amazing in this movie and it really revealed the power and influence of imagination. 9. American Hustle- simply a great cast with a decent plot. Nice little curveball at the end too. 8. This is the End- best comedy of 2013 without a doubt. The ultimate bromance movie and probably the best last 10 minutes in the history of comedies. 7. Pain and Gain- the most underrated movie this year. I really digged the Goodfellas-like narration and the movie did a great job of making you feel bad for 3 idiots who were probably real life monsters. 6. Rush- amazing sports rivalry movie. Not a formula one fan but this movie made me have much more interest in it and made me respect even more the mentality it takes to be a racecar driver. 5. Now You See Me- great twist with a very interesting and unique plot. If the ending wasn't a little weird, this might've challenged for #1. 4. Zero Dark Thirty- I consider this a 2013 movie since it was only released in like 5 theaters in 2012. Great intensity throughout the movie with a fantastic build-up to an ending which I'd say lived up to the build-up. Not to mention Jessica Chastain is a badass. Movie felt a little too long to be ranked higher. 3. Man of Steel- finally did Superman justice. Very nice backstory in this movie and the no-name actor did a nice job playing Superman. Definitely some epic fight scenes too. The only good superhero movie this year imo. 2. Captain Phillips- like ZDT, kept up nice intensity and built up to a stunning ending. They absolutely mastered the last 15 minutes in this movie and I felt the hostage situation was very realistic. Tom Hanks deserves a nomination for Best Actor for this. 1. Hunger Games: Catching Fire- this movie had the perfect balance of political drama and survival in the games. 1 of the few movies this year that kept my attention from start to finish. Great twist ending and cliffhanger as well. Still need to see Wolf of Wall Street so Saving Mr. Banks could still fall out. Honorable Mentions: Gravity Kick-Ass 2 Olmypus Has Fallen 42 Monsters University We're the Millers The Heat Spring Breakers

^I love Blue Streak. I'm probably one of it's biggest supporters. I even have this above Millennium Force. Blue Streak to me has more ejector airtime and felt more out of control than Phoenix. While Phoenix has great airtime, I feel like it lacks that out of control feeling that El Toro and Blue Streak have. Plus Blue Streak has one of the best views on any coaster imo. Boulder Dash is the same thing. Nice out of control feeling but having less airtime puts it behind Blue Streak for me.

I've ridden 16 wooden coasters in my life so far but 2 of those credits are for the same coaster so I'm really ranking 14. Here they are: 14. Wildcat (HP)- hate the restraints and the roughness. It's everything that can be bad about a woodie. 13. Mean Streak- found it to be rough without intensity. Disappointing since layout has potential. 12. Rolling Thunder- rough with only airtime in first row. Also very screechy. 11. Georgia Cyclone- rode this a while ago so probably don't remember how bad it is to be lower. 10. Great American Scream Machine- rode this 10 years ago but don't remember anything too bad or outstanding about this. Just ok. 9. Wildcat (LC)- underrated coaster. Very old but still fun with surprising speed and intensity. 8. Lightning Racer- smooth with a good layout but nothing outstanding to make it higher. 7. Twister- rough in a good way. Solid speed throughout the ride, just missing airtime. 6. Comet (HP)- in the back it can be a ride with nice airtime. 5. Great White- offers one of the best views on any ride of Wildwood's boardwalk and beach. Nice speed and airtime with a first tunnel drop. Just very screechy. 4. Boulder Dash- nice location for the coaster with some of the best speed on any woodie. With more airtime it'd probably be at least #2. 3. Phoenix- outstanding airtime and comftorable restraints. With more intensity it would be higher. 2. Blue Streak (CP)- this coaster doesn't get nearly enough credit. Nice backyard feel to it with a lakeview as well. One of the few woodies with both great airtime and intensity. 1. El Toro- this coaster has made me spoiled. I think it causes me to be disappointed in other coasters because of how great it is. Unbelievable airtime and intensity especially in the back. Some of the best ejector airtime I've ever had and it lasts throughout almost the whole ride. #1 woodie and #2 overall only behind Skyrush.
