Absolutely. This park is way better than it has any rights to be. I went last year, and was trying to get back this year, even though they only added the Larson Super Loop coaster. We ended up having to scratch it from our itinerary, but I absolutely am coming back when I can. Glad you had fun, and happy birthday to Emily!

Favorite Log Flume
ytterbiumanalyst replied to apollo210's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
False. If I'm not mistaken it's the original themed log ride. The first to be built into a show building reminiscent of the old mill rides. Before that log flumes were glorified chute the chutes. If there was no Timber Mountain there mighy be no Splash Mountain. No Dudley Do Right Ripsaw Falls. You are mistaken. El Aserradero was themed to a sawmill. Did you read the article Boldikus linked to? I know the answer, since if you had, you would have known that. -
Go to the waterpark at opening and go all the way to the back for Mammoth and Wildebeest. Then in the afternoon when it gets really hot, leave the waterpark and go ride the coasters. This is the opposite of most people's pattern, which is exactly why it works. There are bins in every ride station, including--and I am not making this up--the rapids ride and the log flume. Plus, the ride ops will take your stuff and put it in a bin for you. No need to cross the car and put it away yourself, and in fact, they don't want you to. Just hop in, sit down, hand your stuff off, and get your seat belt and restraints on. Just take note of where they put it, because you do have to get it yourself when you get off. There are so many hidden gems in this park, all kinds of great scenery, and puns are everywhere. I'm convinced that Indiana has a law requiring a certain pun ratio. Every place in Indiana seems to have a pun of some sort. And that segues nicely to the best places to eat. The waterpark's best restaurant is Wildebeestro, which is of course near Wildebeest. They serve burgers, fries, salads, and such all cafeteria style, with burger/fries combos around $12. These are awesome ones too; I got a Bleu Beer burger the other day, with bleu cheese, beer cheese, and BBQ sauce. The Plymouth Rock Cafe is my favourite in the dry park, and it serves Thanksgiving dinner staples like turkey, sweet potato casserole, chicken and dumplings, cornbread, etc. Runs $10-15 for a meal, depending on what you get (it's cafeteria style). Holiday World's food is really great, and I don't think you really can go wrong, but those are my go-to places, and we ate at both this weekend. And of course don't forget free unlimited soft drinks, so you only pay for the food.

What Was the Last Beer You Drank?
ytterbiumanalyst replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
Holy crap. Bar or package store? Thats from the supermarket shelf. In a bar it would be more expensive. A beer in a bar in Norway normally ranges from $7-12, depending on what type of beer. I haven't seen Founders in any of the bars here, but I would guess around $8-$9 for a bottle if that were the case. Of course you're standard draft lager/pilsner is not quite as expensive in the stores. For example a 0,5 liter can of beer from Hansa (one of the largest breweries in Norway) is currently at $3,8 in the shelf. But compared to other countries I guess it's still pretty damn expensive. Ouch. $3.80 would get you a 6 pack of the cheap stuff here. Not that it would be worth it, but still.... Last beer I had was Yuengling. We don't have it at home, so even though it's not super great, it's still kind of a thing when traveling east of the Mississippi. -

You may not bring it on the rides. That's the only rule. And good move planning multiple days here. This is a fantastic park. A lot of enthusiasts see 4 coasters and think it'll be quick, but the park is so much more than that. All 4 are world class and you'll run out of time before you want to stop riding, no matter how much time you've planned. There's a huge selection of great flats, and they tend to run long cycles too. Add to that the single greatest waterpark I have ever been to, and it's hard to get enough of this place. Have fun!

Well, if it's in a video game, it has to be real. I know because I live in one of SimCity 2000's arcologies. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -

Yes, in the sense of typical enthusiast whining, e.g. "This B&M rattles," then Mystery Mine is not rough in any way. It is rough in the same sense that a rodeo bullride is rough. It's performing exactly as designed, and it's designed brilliantly. -

I'm not letting this one go unnoticed. Well done. -
I think the one thing everyone agrees on is that this park is not lacking in wooden coasters. A spinner would be nice; they're trendy and not too intimidating for guests. With all of their coasters except Howler being custom, though, it would have to be not just out of the box. HW can't compete with cookie cutter coasters. The bigger players will eat them alive if they do, especially Kings Island. HW thrives by having what no one else has, and it should stay that way.

Cannonball at Lake Winnepesaukah. Great little coaster (and incidentally the oldest coaster I've ridden). -

How's the trip going so far? Right now I am super exhausted, but I have had an awesome time. Will have a full trip report starting when I get back, but I'll spoil one thing: Mystery Mine is a new top 5 coaster for me. Mystery Mine for sure is quite unique. It was my first "straight up" lift hill, my first "greater than 90 degrees" drop and that ever you want to call that hanging upside down finish. It was awesome. I got in 3 rides last Sunday but I have to say, 2 of the 3 were rather rough. All of my rides were rather rough. That ride is actively trying to kill everyone dumb enough to step into the queue. I have rarely ridden a ride where I feel like I need to hang on for dear life. Maverick is the only one that even comes close to Mystery Mine's masochism. For any enthusiast who feels you're an old pro and can handle anything, Mystery Mine is prepared to make you its bitch. This is Gerstlauer's tour de force. -

No one has suggested that. No one. The thought is that a fast chain or cable lift that goes the same speed the car has at the top of the lift (~25mph, correct?) would work just as well and more reliably. The only downside is that the park doesn't get to claim world's only launched wooden coaster. Of course, the people who are saying this don't actually have any information regarding whether the problem is with the launch at all, so they're still wrong. They're just not wrong for the reason you said. -

Good luck. We picked Sunday through Tuesday on Memorial Day weekend a year after opening, in the hopes it would be open one of those days, and that wasn't good enough. Dollywood is still a fantastic park even without Lightning Rod, though. We had a blast. -
